I rate mcviegh, davey, hird, mcphee, fletcher, lloyd, lucas, winderlich, monfries, lovett and laycock.

Well from that list I would have to say McPhee.

When he is on he is great, but he is prone to go missing.

I wouldn't have thought many people would rate; McVeigh, Winderlich, Lovett and Laycock. McVeigh IMO is a great player, the other three are up and coming so I don't think they are overrated, because they still have more improving to go. Put Monfries in that bag too.

No, you mentioned Davey, I just didn't refer to him, because I think he is rated about right, people rate him as an exciting player who adds defensive pressure and snags a goal or two, which he delivers pretty consistently.

No, i'd agree with the original assessment that Scott West is the Bulldogs' most over-rated player. Sure, he is a ripping player, and he tries his heart out, but he is what I like to call a high-posession, low-impact player. He is never going to turn a game. He will rack up 35 touches in a winning side and 35 touches in a losing side. He is a like the oil that makes the engine hum.

Contrast with a guy like Chris Judd - lower possession count but he really hurts the opposition. He is the engine. I'm sure most clubs would take one of Judd's possessions over three of West's.

Both good players though. This thread was not "who is the worst player?" it was "who is the most over-rated player?".

Most over-rated player from Hawthorn: Lance Franklin - he would only be 4th or 5th in the b+f so far this year. But with the media salivating all over him it would be impossible not to be over-rated.

Agreed on Kane Cornes. As a midfielder he doesnt cut the mustard, his disposals and match decisions can be rubbish.

But as a tagger, he can be a match winner.

Judd has about 80 games on Lance.To imagine what he could be in another 80 games is a bit scary given he continues to fill out into a more hardened AFL player.
For now Lance is at a level no other player under 50 games is at IMHO.

Well it's good to see that you're not like one of your fellow Bombers fans. Some guy sat behind me on Friday night had the magnificent insight to call out that Gary Ablett Jnr was overrated. Now I don't usually fire up, or defend Ablett when someone critises him, but f*ck did have a knee jerk reaction to it. This was just moments before he beat two guys to the ball, steadied, stepped around and delivered beautifully up the ground.

Like I said, don't usually fire up and get all one eyed, but it was sweet

The fact that so many people think he doesn't impact games all that much can't be ignored.

I am not saying he is a dud - just that plenty of people think he doesn't affect games that much! I appreciate as a bulldogs fan you har it all the time - just interesting that you don't hear it about other stars with similar records

I think Luke Ball is more overrated then Dal Santo... Bally is courageous and a good player bu I dont rate him up with Judd or even Dal Santo

In 2005 Ball was better than Dal Santo at his peak (Ball and Hayes were drawing the heavy tags so Dal could roam free) and Hayes in the prime of his career. He got heaps of the ball, was second in the competition for tackles, had pace and strength to burst away from packs, kicked goals and had good skills.

He was largely regarded as the second best young midfielder in the competition (behind Judd).

Currently he is playing like a 35 year old (the regular kind, not the Harvey variety) due to injury. He should be given the rest of the year off, have surgery to try and fix whatever is holding him back and try to get to full fitness before the start of the 2008 season.

Depends how you define impact doesn't it. Goal scoring? Long kicks? What about hard ball gets? Clearances? Tackling? Running out an entire game at the same pace and consistency?

Regardless of this, the point is, he's not over-rated. In fact its only been the last couple of season where the Dogs have been doing alright that he has been considered elite at all. The guys a freak.

To put it in perspective, he has the same kicking efficiency as Judd over the past 2 years, and his hand balling efficiency last year 83% compared to Judd's 70%. And only averaged 2 less kicks then Judd a game (yet has 6 more handballs).

If he lacks something, its the ability to break through packs, but he makes up for that by almost always finding a target to hand ball to while under a pack. If you go to a game, just watch West, his reading of the play is uncanny - hence his ability to rack up the stats. He's a true star of the game.

St.Kilda - Stephen Milne - only does something when the game is over

Sydney - Nick Davis and Heath Grundy - Davis only does something when he is on a shit defender and Grundy started well and where is he now

West Coast - Daniel Chick - done absolutely nothing this year at all

this list is a complete load of shit. Scott West has been one of the best players in the AFL for the past decade.... unlucky not to have won a couple of brownlows. It annoys me that I have to defend a player of his calibre. Essendon would love to have a player of his ability and consistency in their midfield... which is probably why they tried poaching him

Not to mention the fact that loads of other "overrated" players from your list arent even rated at all.
