Next up we have the Best Defender Award.

As always, Wosh led from the front in Season 37, providing consistent engagement, support, and fun. Playing from full-back, Wosh had a stand-out season, frustrating opposition full-forwards like there was no tomorrow. This culminated in All-Sweet FA selection at full-back this week - worthy recognition of a great season.

We all know the positive impact Wosh has off the field, but itā€™s great to also recognise the selfless defensive post Wosh has occupied all season. Congratulations, Wosh, on winning this award. :grinv1:
Iā€™m still engaged enough in this place to like winning stuff ā˜ŗļø

Thank you! šŸ„°

Top posters: Gralin sausageroll Wosh moginie Proper Gander
Top DT: manangatang Scythe94 Headless (somehow) Yakker Gralin

Gralin says:
A trip to the Dragons was up next and the Demons turned up in force with 22 posters active in a week without much fanfare. Some more changes to the lineup happened with an eye on securing a win.

Cloudy weather had not treated the Demons well in Season 37 and again it led to a loss. 30 points the final margin, but a much more even effort again with 10 individual goal kickers. manangatang led the way in the ruck with 99 DT points and Scythe94 close behind on 97, but the shock of the round was Headless coming off the pine for 91DT points in what would end up being his highest scoring game of the season.

Off field Gralin had 103 ahead of sausageroll with 73 and Wosh with 70, rounding out the top five were moginie with 67 and Proper Gander with 55 funny and engaging posts.

Yet another game in cloudy conditions and yet another convincing loss in those conditions. Once again, the game was all but over early, conceding 9 goals in the first quarter. The good news is, we only lost by 5 goals and not the usual 10.

old-man-yells-at-cloud-meme-1.jpg

We saw another shuffle in the line-up with Proper Gander moving to a wing and DERO returning to his back pocket. DemonJim came onto the field in the forward pocket and PMBangers replaced Hate in the 20.

Total Demons posts was in the 400s as it has been for the past month, but the number of active Demons was at a season-high 22 posters, five up on last week.
The bulk of the posting numbers came from the four usuals with Gralin, Wosh and moginie continuing their strong seasons. But the highlight was the activity levels from Proper Gander, who finished with over 50 for the week. This is the second time this season where five Demons finished with over 50 posts.
Nobody else reached 20 this week with manangatang, Yakker, Scythe94 and Truetiger all in the teens. Headless became the third person in the past three weeks to finish tenth in the posting with less than double figures.

manangatang had another big DT week in the ruck, closely followed by Scythe94 and Headless, all in the 90s.
Gralin and moginie sent the ball forward a lot through Yakker and Truetiger on their flanks.
Not surprisingly, our defenders found a lot of the ball again with DERO, cats2rise and Van_Dyke all having big games.

We had 10 goal kickers, which is pretty good for a losing side. Like in the past few matches, I wasted a few opportunities but Truetiger, moginie and cooney all chipped in with two each. Scythe94, Proper Gander, Gralin, Yakker, manangatang and DemonJim all finished with one.

Random Stats:
1. Once again, DERO got more of a run in the midfield when starting in the back pocket than he did starting in the midfield.
2. Headless' score of 91 more than doubled his DT total for the season. He scored a total of 89 DT in the first 6 rounds, 58 of which came in Round 4
3. We have lost 4 of 5 matches in Cloudy Conditions. Three of them have been 10 goal losses.

This week we'll get to finally catch up with Tarkyn_24 in our match against the Hawks. Can't believe he hasn't dropped by any of our match threads to say hi this season. It'll be great to catch up with him.

Letā€™s take a quick break from the votes to award the cats2rise Medal, named after our dear friend and current Mount Buller veteran cats2rise, who has kicked the second most goals for the club in its history. The medal is presented to our leading goal-kicker each season.

Thereā€™s no big surprise to this one - the winner is full-forward extraordinaire sausageroll. sausageroll had an incredible season in Season 37, leading the Fred Medal count for much of the season before ultimately falling behind Brenton Davy in the final round.

sausageroll kicked a superb 72 goals from 16 games this season, at an average of 4.5 goals per game. This would be enough to win the Fred Medal in most seasons.

In Round 3, sausageroll kicked 12 goals - the equal most in a single game in the history of the Sweet FA. This broke the long-standing club record of Finbar19 (11 goals, Season 26 Grand Final).

Unbelievable work, snags - another feather in your cap (it must be a large cap with all of those feathers in it! :laughv1:). :star:
Second most goals?!

We either gotta rename the award or put me at FF.

Sorry sausageroll.

Top DT: manangatang Gralin sausageroll moginie Yakker

Gralin says:
After back to back losses the Dees headed to the East Side Phoenix Hawks home ground to play the turncoat. While there was an attempt to brand the match the tarks cup it was the sausageroll show in the end.

Leading from the start to the finish the Demons put the Hawks to the sword winning by 52 points, their biggest win for the entire season. 8 goals to sausageroll 102 DT points to the captain manangatang and 10 goal kickers again showed the balance in attack that the demons could muster, and when it all comes together like it did this week, greaty qooty is the result

Off field sausageroll led the charge as well leading the Dees with 79 posts with the usual suspects in Wosh Gralin and moginie following along.

Despite three losses by over 10 goals and the worst percentage in the SFA, we find ourselves back in the Top 8 after a strong win against the Hawks. We are one of only five teams that haven't had a bye yet so we need to win as many games as possible before our Round 13 bye to give ourselves a good chance of plaing finals.

We went into the match unchanged after shuffling 5 players in Rounds 6 and 7. Once selection was finalised we all kept our eyes on the weather forecast for the weekend, hoping for anything other than cloudy weather. The warm conditions we played in were a welcome change and gave us hope going into the game.

Posting numbers were down again, just 6 higher than our season low of 360 back in Round 1. We also dropped back to 17 active posters after surging to 22 in Round 7.
Four posters were over 50 with Wosh, moginie and Gralin leading the way as usual. Like last week, the next highest posters were all below 20 with manangatang, Scythe94, DERO, cooney and Yakker all in the teens and Headless rouding out the top 10 with 9 posts.

manangatang led the DT scoring for the second week in a row, cracking the ton for the first time this season, feeding the ball well to Gralin, moginie and Scythe94 in the midfield.
cartwright was good on her back flank and Van_Dyke and DERO provided plenty of run out of the back pockets.
Yakker and Truetiger got plenty of it on the forward flanks, serving the ball on a platter to full forward.

We had ten goal scorers for the second week in a row. I ended up with 8 and Yakker kicked 3 from his flank. Scythe94 finished with two goals while cooney, Gralin, Truetiger, Bluelegs, Proper Gander, manangatang and Van_Dyke all finished with one.

Random Stats:
1. DERO did it again...scoring more when starting in the back pocket than he did starting in the midfield.
2. Headless has scored 149 (83%) of his 180 DT points in two rounds.
3. Demons have won all three games played in warm conditions this season

This week we play Ophidian Old Boys at home. Let's give them a warm welcome
...with warm weather!

moginie was top of the Dream Team table with a fantastic average of 84.88, in second was Gralin with 82.63, then Scythe94 on 74.75, manangatang since moving into the ruck had climbed to fourth with 69.25 and rounding out the top 5 was Yakker on 67.50

The Club Award/Coachesā€™ Award celebrates a member of our little old team who has consistently contributed to team culture and helped out behind the scenes.

To present the award, hereā€™s our dear coach Richard_Cranium:

[Richard_Cranium stumbles onto stage]

Err rr right geā€™off me

Is this thing on?

Thereā€™s one thing really grumbles me goobers about modern society - itā€™s when the s-

Ah, yes - thank you, coach. I might take it back from here, then.

The award goes - very deservedly - to sausageroll. sausageroll has been incredible for this club since crossing from the Furies in Season 24. Of sausagerollā€™s 543 games, 244 of them have now been at the Demons.

Weā€™ve seen how good sausageroll is both on and off the field this season, but itā€™s the extra stuff that tips this award in snagsā€™ favour. A long-term member of the leadership group, sausageroll readily contributes on all club matters, and sausagerollā€™s stats work this season (and previous seasons) has been - letā€™s be honest - absolutely nothing short of outstanding.

Thank you, sausageroll. This is a very, very well-deserved award. šŸ‘

Top DT: moginie Scythe94 cats2rise manangatang Gralin

Gralin says:
Riding high from the big win against the Hawks the Dees were on the road again heading to Spotswood. The big win didnā€™t stop the club from making changes to reward good months had by cats2rise and cartwright moving those two onto the wing and half forward flank

cats2rise immediately repaid the coaches faith with 106 DT points only beaten on the day by the dynamic duo of moginie (117) and Scythe94 (114) who both also chipped in with 3 goals a piece. Sadly their heroic efforts were not enough to stop the Old boys who ran out 48 point winners
Off field Wosh had a massive week with 224 posts with Gralin and moginie both making it past 100 posts. The activity didnā€™t stop there with sausageroll cats2rise and Headless all having good weeks with increased activity.

sausageroll said:

Cloudy weather. We all know how that ends. No need to mention the result.

We shuffled the team again with Truetiger and DemonJim moving to the back flanks and cats2rise and cartwright moving to the wing and half forward flank respectively. sante also moved to the forward pocket as part of the shuffle.

The match thread shared with the Old Boys was our biggest this year, over 600 posts higher than our second biggest and Demons posts was almost 100 higher than our previous high against the Rats in Round 2. The number of Demons posters was below the season average though, with only 18 of the 20 named actively posting in the thread.

The biggest highlights of the week were the increase in activity from cats2rise and Headless. Their activity, and the great week from DERO and Proper Gander made a hugh difference to the match thread.
Wosh had a huge week, posting her highest numbers of the season and Gralin wasn't far off his. Larry Gomes made two appearances, thanks to moginie notching up a ton.
We had more than 9 Demons reach double figures for the first time in five weeks. Yakker, manangatang, cooney and Scythe94 ensured we had 12 Demons in double figures.

moginie led DT scoring for the fourth time this season with Scythe94 and cats2rise joining him with scores over 100. manangatang and Gralin both also had big games again in the midfield.
Wosh had her biggest game since Round 1 and PMBangers came off the bench for his highest score of the season.
DemonJim and Truetiger both had good games in their new positions at half back.

We didn't have a lot of goal individual scorers this week but we did have a lot of multiple goal scorers. Bluelegs, moginie and Scythe94 all kicked three goals each and sante kicked two in his first game up forward. I kicked 5 goals before being dragged very early in the final quarter and PMBangers chipped in with one goal.

Random Stats:
1. Despite ending with a big loss, this round was the highest total DT for the club this season.
2. Three Demons scored over 100 DT for the first time this season.
3. Our results in different weather conditions this season... Warm: 3 wins from 3, 122.4%. Cloudy: 1 win from 6, 69.3%

This week we're away against the Royals in warm weather (wishful thinking).
We have two milestones this week. manangatang is playing his 200th club game and jmoo wan is playing his 200th SFA game.

Top DT: moginie manangatang cats2rise Scythe94 Proper Gander

Gralin says:
Another away game against the in-form Royal. The Demons had jmoo wan playing his 200th SFA game and Captain manangatang playing his 200th game for the Demons. Milestone matches had been a bit of a mixed bag and this week would be no exception

A seesawing game saw the lead change several times before the Demons scraped home by 6 points. sausageroll kicked 4 and manangatang moginie and sante all kicked 2. In the midfield manangatang and moginie both had 92DT points to lead the team with cats2rise and Scythe94 having strong games.

Off field was much quieter than previous weeks with the usual suspects up top but good activity from Proper Gander and Marlowe with 26 and 20 and another strong week from cats2rise with 30 rounded out the top seven nicely

Give us warm weather every week. Four wins from four in those conditions. It was great to have a win to celebrate the milestones for jmoo wan and manangatang this week.

There was only one change this week; Marlowe made a welcome return, replacing DemonJim who hadn't been sighted for a couple of weeks. Hopefully we'll see more from these two in the lead up to finals.

Posting overall this week was well down on the activity from the previous week. Demons ended up with 20 active posters though, and contributed over 56% of total posts, so it wasn't a bad week for us. We also had more then ten posters with over ten posts for the second week in a row.

It was great to see cats2rise and Proper Gander maintaining their activity from last week and Marlowe appearing for the first time this season with 20 posts.
Gralin, Wosh and moginie led the posting once again and manangatang, Headless, cooney and Yakker all finished in double figures.

moginie led DT scoring for the second week in a row, sharing top score with manangatang who has led in three of the past four matches.
Marlowe and Truetiger provided plenty of run off half back while Proper Gander and Scythe94 sent the ball forward to Yakker and cooney who provided an avenue to goal.

Goals kicked from the midfield were very important in a fairly low scoring match with manangatang and moginie both kicking two. Scythe94 and Proper Gander also kicked one each.
sante has become a valuable goal kicker for us since moving forward, finishing with two for the second week in a row and Bluelegs chipped in with one. I was the only other goal kicker, starting with two early goals and then kicking the two that sealed the game.

Random Stats:
1. Despite the win, this week was our lowest team DT score of the season. Our previous lowest was 980 in our Round 2 win against the Rats.
2. moginie is having a huge season, averaging 59 posts per game, leading DT, and third in goal scoring for Demons this season.
3. We have won all four matches in warm conditions this season.

This week we're up against the Roys in what will be another milestone match, with Marlowe celebrating his 300th SFA game.
Bring on the warm weather!

Poster of the Season.png

The Poster of the Season Award (yes, Iā€™m aware the graphic says ā€œPOTYā€) was first introduced in Season 29 to acknowledge consistent and quality match-thread posting. It has since been won by club legends like Tarkyn_24, Callums_Guns, sante, and sausageroll.

We have, in my view, the best and deepest list in the entire league, so this is never an easy decision. But the winner of the award this season is none other than Gralin, who has led our match thread posting with distinction in Season 37.

Gralin averaged ~82 posts per match thread this season but, more importantly than raw numbers, all of Gralinā€™s posts are engaging, fun, and in the spirit of Sweet. For example, we all - teammates and opposition alike - enjoyed Gralinā€™s opposition match-up stats in match threads this season.

Gralin didnā€™t dip below 25 match thread posts for the entire season, demonstrating a wonderful level of consistency that we all appreciate.

Good on you, Gralin - winner of the Season 37 Poster of the Season Award. šŸ„³

Gralin says:
After returning to the side in Round10 Marlowe brought up 300 SFA games against the Roys at home. The home team went in as favorites in the warm weather.

5 points was the final margin from the same number of scoring shots but the slightly more accurate Roys got the win. cooney dominated at center half forward with 93 DT points and 2 goals, with sante again kicking 3 showing the move from the wing to be a good call. The Demons had 8 individual goal kickers but their midfield did not have a great day with manangatang the highest ranked on 74 DT points

Off field another quieter week saw sausageroll lead the way with 60 posts, no other demon got above 50 but Gralin moginie and cats2rise were the next most active

sausageroll said:

Congratulations to Marlowe who celebrated his 300th SFA match this week. Unfortunately this was the only real highlight for the Demons this week as we went down in warm weather for the first time this season despite being in a commanding position for the majority of the game.
To add to the loss, DT and posting were both well below our previous lows for the season.

Posting wise, cats2rise was the big positive again, while Gralin and moginie were great as usual. After this, manangatang, Wosh, cooney and Headless were all between 11 and 15 but no-one outside the top 8 reached double figures. Our 10th highest poster this week had 4 posts.

Onfield, cooney was the star. In a low scoring game, coon-dog racked up an outstanding 93 DT from Centre Half Forward, including two goals. Yakker and cartwright were also good on their forward flanks, as were Truetiger on his back flank and Headless coming off the pine.
manangatang, moginie, Scythe94, Proper Gander and cats2rise did well in the midfield.

sante's goal kicking form continued, finishing with a game-high three goals. cooney kicked his two, and Yakker, Scythe94, Bluelegs, manangatang, Proper Gander and I all kicked one each.

Random Stats:
1. moginie is leading the SFA in DT this season. Scythe94, Gralin and manangatang are also in the top 20.
2. This was our first loss in warm weather this season. We had previously won all four matches in these conditions.
3. We only need five goals this week to reach the club milestone of 10,000 goals

This week we have an away game against the Bears and then we have our bye the week after. It looks as though we're in need of the break. Hopefully we can re-energise for the run for the finals.

Gralin says:
After a narrow win and narrow loss the Demons had one more game before the bye. Itā€™s always good to get a win before the bye and the Demons set out to do just that.

Scythe94 had a career day with 140DT points 11 tackles and 2 goals, cooney had his second big game in as many weeks this time with 112 DT points and 13 marks. The main benefactors of the dominance of the above two were the other forwards with sausageroll kicking 6 and cartwright having a day out with 99DT points and 4 goals. sante chipped in another 4 from one forward pocket and Bluelegs 3 from the other. Every forward hit the scoreboard this week in a 40 point win

Off field was the quietest of the year with players perhaps looking to the bye sausageroll led the way again with 37 followed by cats2rise who had been consistently active for over a month now

sausageroll said:

The weather forecast was for cloudy weather, leaving us little chance of coming away with a win. But we somehow managed to beat the odds and beat the Bears away from home.
We started well, kicking 6 goals in the first quarter and setting us up for another memorable loss. The gap closed in the second quarter but we had a big third quarter, going into the final break with a six goal lead. We managed to not fall apart in the last quarter, eventually going on to win by 40 points.

Scythe94 had a huge game with the highest DT score of any Demon this season. cooney followed his BOG performance in Round 11 with his first ton of the season and cartwright had her best game of the season, finishing on 99 including four goals.
manangatang gave cats2rise , Gralin and Proper Gander first use of the ball in the midfield and Truetiger and Van_Dyke provied plenty of run from defence.

We had four Demons kicking three or more goals this week. sante kicked another four goals; he was moved to the forward pocket a month ago and has kicked 11 goals over that period. cartwright also kicked four goals, her first for the season. I kicked six and Bluelegs kicked another three, putting him on 22 goals for the season.
Scythe94 kicked two and Yakker and Van_Dyke kicked one each.

Posting dropped off even more with only 16 active Demons and seven reaching double figures. It was also our lowest total for the season, with our numbers dropping to 193, well below our previous low of 260.
cats2rise was the highlight again, finishing in the top three posting numbers for the first time this season. I led the posting with just 37 posts, my second lowest total of the season and Gralin finished second, also with his lowest total of the season. moginie was up and about as always and Wosh , manangatang and cooney were the others to finish in double figures.

Random Stats:
1. This was only our second win from seven matches in cloudy conditions.
2. We had our highest DT total and lowest posting totals of the season in Round 12
3. The Demons achieved the club milestone of 10,000 goals in Round 12

This week we're up against the Dragons at home. Hopefully the week off has given everyone a chance to recharge.

The standout against the dragons was the club Captain himself. manangatang dominated in the ruck with 121 DT points and drifted forward to kick 5 goals. Bluelegs Yakker and cooney all chipped in 3 goals with Gralin and Scythe94 both having 85 DT points and a goal from the middle

Off field posting was up after the bye, sausageroll again led the way with 67 with Headless refreshed and posting up a storm with 58

Our good form in warm weather continued against the Dragons last week, coming away with our 5th win in these conditions. We now sit in 7th position with 7 wins for the season, although our percentage will be an issue if we can't win at least one or two of the remaining three games.

manangatang was the star this week, finishing with 121 DT, well ahead of the next best (Scythe94 and Gralin both on 85). He was also the leading goal kicker for the game, finishing with 5. cooney had his third big game in a row at Centre Half Forward while Yakker and cartwright got plenty of the ball on their flanks.
jmoo wan was back to his best at Centre Half Back, well supported by Marlowe on his flank. cats2rise and moginie also provided plenty of run in the middle.

Goals were shared around a lot this week. Bluelegs (three goals) and sante (two goals) continued their strong goal kicking form, while cooney and Yakker kicked three each from half forward. Gralin and Scythe94 both kicked one each. I wasted my opportunities, kicking just one from fove scoring shots.

Posting was at its highest for the past month, finishing with 19 posters and the most posts since Round 10. We also had seven Demons post over 20 times, although it dropped off a lot after that.
The highlight was easily the increased activity from Headless who was back to his entertaining best. cats2rise continued his hot posting streak and Gralin still hasn't been outside the top three this season. moginie has been a star all season and opposition teams are really starting to notice what he contributes to match threads. Wosh was another big positive, also back amongst it after a couple of less active weeks and manangatang, despite being consistent all year, had his biggest week since Round 4.

Random Stats:
1. We have won 5 out of 6 matches in warm conditions this season.
2. Tarkyn_24 would have been our 4th highest poster this week if we'd paid attention to him he'd been a Demon.
3. Pie 4 Life kicks less goals from the middle than he does at full back. To be fair, he had a stronger opponent this week.

This week DERO is celebrating his 200th SFA match and his 100th Demons match against the Wonders. If we win, we're a very strong chance of playing finals. Match thread is here.

League awards.png

Itā€™s currently awards week season-wide, so letā€™s take a look at some excellent Mount Buller achievements from Season 37!

On Monday, ClarkeM presented the Mobbs Medal, presented to the league B&F. moginie represented the Demons brilliantly, finishing in equal fifth place. manangatang also finished in the top 20 (=16th). Congratulations to both players!

On Wednesday, four of our players were awarded with All-Sweet FA honours, based on a combination of match thread posting and sim results throughout the season. This was very, very well-deserved recognition for Wosh (FB), Gralin (W), sausageroll (HFF), and moginie (Ro). Despite missing finals, no team was better represented on the night - well done, everybody.

Iā€™d also like to acknowledge cooney, who was our fifth nomination and could easily have made the final side - we long argued for that outcome. In the end, cooney was backed by multiple teams, highlighting a great season. Well done, cooney, on another excellent season.

The beez Trophy will run this coming Monday. After an excellent posting season, we have some very solid top 20 contenders. moginie, sausageroll, and Gralin all finished in the top 25 of AnUltimateRessie's ā€œRate the Oppositionā€ concept, demonstrating that opposition sides have enjoyed our posting - AS ALWAYS. šŸ¤£ Further, our list is very nicely balanced and features a wide range of beloved posters - so Monday night will, hopefully, be another fruitful one for the Demons!

Before we move on to the final rounds of voting, congratulations everybody - the entire list - on yet another wonderful season.
