I assume all the big VIC clubs are now demanding they play the Giants in the first few rounds.
If we cop multiple suspensions Tigers may be back in the running but otherwise it will be Bombers with the Stringer angle to promote it .Slight chance of Heavenly Swans versus evil Giants another angle that could be promoted .. Watch them promote Port v Hawks after fining Kenny 20,,000.Nothing surer.

Why would you dress up as twin towers geez like that isn’t going to ruffle a few feathers ey
Twin Towers is literally one of the most joked about events on the internet. You type "9/11" into Instragram right now and you will see thousands and thousands of jokes about it. The Family Guy clip has been posted, the Norm McDonald joke is posted. In his most recent comedy show Shane Gillis does a hilarious joke about an Australian in the twin towers on 9/11 "oh ****, get down - naaauuurrr" Bizarre that people find it offensive.

Reading between the lines, a skit featuring a person dress as Jarryd Hayne and a sex doll, could never end well.

If he replicated anything that allegedly happened, then he crossed a line he shouldn't have. I assume this is why he is in the most trouble.

What are you actually on about?

As Jim Spigelman (one of Australia's grreatest legal minds) once said, there is no right not to be offended. That is the very essence of free speech.

Want to use big words like reducive? Possibly the most reducive thing I have read on this thread is you saying the threshold for what is acceptable expression through soeech or behaviour is that if one person out of thousands or millions is offended, it crosses that threshold.
And there is no right to freedom from consequences.

Womp womp.

There’s dark humour and dark “humour”. The first is addressing dark topics in a humorous way typically with word play or making fun of the bad thing.

The second is just saying/doing horrible things (sexist, racist, etc.) and pretending it’s fine because it’s a “joke”

Given they are suggesting there was simulated sexual assault. This falls into the second category.

100% this. Approaching a member of female staff to ask them about a work-related issue they caused is fraught with danger. You basically have to remain expressionless and speak without any emotion. Even if they have in fact caused the issue.
And make sure you don’t do it alone, because that could be misinterpreted. And don’t do it on a group, because that’s too public.

Distasteful, yes. Illegal, no.

Would I do it? No. Can I understand why some are upset? Yes.

But six weeks is a joke. Toby fined $20,000 is a joke.

If the AFL is handing out fines for lack of leadership then they’ll be raising funds internally.
The issue should have remained between the players and the venue. If the venue wasn't happy with what was going on they should have simply kicked the players out. I don't understand why the AFL needs to get involved.

Hurting someones feeling is not a crime.

This is a pandoras box
Exposing someone to actions they find offensive while they are at work is, though. And acting in a way contrary to your employee code of conduct at a work function is as well.

Telling people to "suck it up" and downplaying their emotions is disastrous for mental health.

So you believe it's a problem that people need to consider other people's welfare when addressing them in their place of work?

FWIW, I've been in the corporate world for nearly 30 years. It's changed enormously in terms of how people behave, no doubt.

Some of the shit that used to go on is just unbelievable really, when I think back on it.

But I can honestly say that I have had no issue adapting. Sure, I have to let some awesome jokes slide from time to time, but really it hasn't been that hard at all.

It's different absolutely, and I have had to change. But I simply have not had the same horrible experiences being a man in the workforce in 2024 that others talk about.

It was a private party. Why would a venue staff member complain to the employer of these guys?

The staff member might complain to their own manager but given that nothing illegal happened a valid response might be "perhaps you are not suited to work here."

Under employment law, an employer has a duty of care towards their staff.

Venues blacklist patrons all the time. The patrons haven’t necessarily done anything “illegal” to justify them being charged, but they have done enough to justify them not being allowed back into the venue. And an employer’s duty of care towards their staff is reasonable grounds for that.

If the venue is very unhappy with the conduct of company staff at an organised event, it’s good practice for venue management to call the company on Monday morning to complain. That covers their backside in the event staff complain to Worksafe + it’s good for staff culture knowing their employer has their back (Good staff are usually much harder to find than good customers)

And if GWS (any club) receives a complaint about their players, I’d imagine that they’re obliged to inform the AFL as a matter of good governance.

And once the AFL gets involved, who knows where the matter will end up …

That just means that there's plenty of moron jokers about. They're about as funny as a train wreck.

People should never joke about tragic events.
I bet they wouldn't think it's that funny if something like that impacted their lives.
