What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

Dear posters: unsubstantiated advice will be deleted. We understand you want to help, but #fakenews blah blah blah we're not allowing any disinformation. Got some great advice about washing your hands whilst dancing like David Byrne in Once In A Lifetime helps kill the virus? That's fantastic, provide a link to a reputable source.

I could remember Vader discussing whether to go, and at the time, there seemed a risk but we never knew how bad until recent weeks. Cruise ship businesses will likely have to stay quiet for a long while, with what has transpired. Certainly for the rest of this year, even if the lockdown is lifted, hard to picture anyone game enough to try it.

I knew how bad it was. I did hear things unofficially through contacts in the know.

So much so I begged him not to go and sent a PM telling him so.

Seems that you're not being too affected physically? Please keep us informed mate!

You know its funny about 10 days ago I thought I had "flu-like symptoms".

I deliberately continued to exercise and run to see if this "flu" had would knock me down and prevent me from working out due to fatigue and a weakened immune system so I could seek medical attention. But no I was totally fine to do the workout, if anything I ran faster.

Thats the scary thing about the CV, some people get it but are asymptomatic.

Yeah flight from Santiago to Sydney on 29th March. Appears to have been a super spreader onboard as 15 out of 18 qantas staff have caught it.

Should’ve stayed in Chile would’ve been safer. Financial pressure (long time quarantined in foreign country) persuaded us to come home. Unfortunately that decision put us in danger.
Did you ever think about not going on the trip (I think you said you left on March 10)? No restrictions had been put in place here, but we did have cases and the WHO had called it a pandemic.

I understand the costs involved in holidays and refunds being hard to get, so was that the ultimate factor in deciding still to go?

A diarrhea and spew fest put me off them. Reckon a few might join me after this.
The worst bit for me is, I was captive on there and I couldn’t nip down the supermarket and get some cleaning chemicals a bucket and other supplies to clean up. It was frustrating as hell.

Just saying take responsibility for yourself if you think you are vulnerable and self isolate. No one is forcing you to do anything.
For a Lot of maybe that correct nobody forcing you, But there is a Lot of People in the vulnerable group that cannot play it safe, some have to step up and work, to help other to help there community.

It not that simple to say if you in the vulnerable group then stay at home, when you skillset means you can help

At the time Vader was criticising the government for not enforcing greater social distancing measures and yet he was going to lock himself away on a ship with thousands of people for an extended period of time.

Plus he even said at the time he hoped they cancelled because of the risk, but would still go because of the $3k he paid.

The majority on here just looked the other way and even now you are making up excuses for him. What does he have on you all? He ain’t a Mod anymore, call him out.

My sisters brother in law and wife went on the Ovation of the seas the cruise before it got cancelled or had issues.
We were all making light of it on Facebook at the time. Things sure escalated quick when shit hit the fan. Kind of reminds me of that feeling the morning I woke up to the world trade Centre collapsing in a big dust pile.

I am saying everybody has a choice safest choice is to self isolate. You can manage your own risks.

If they re-open a bunch of work places, the people who work there no longer have a choice. Nor do any of the people that they encounter.

Unbelievable. You know you could have chosen not to go considering you were terrified and the risk you would pose to others on your return?

Seriously why are you guys pandering to his selfishness?

I was in a similar position, we were supposed to be leaving on the 19th April on a cruise to Singapore.

I've potentially lost $3,000 (accommodation and airfares) because travel insurance refuses to cover anything.

In some cases travel insurance has to share some of the blame for this mess as well by putting people in a position where they have no choice other than to loose thousands of dollars or take the risk with their holiday.

I think there is a general misconception that all respiratory infections often show themselves in clinical symptoms, wherein fact they often have a spectrum of symptoms from mild (little to no symptoms) to severe (hospitalisations, death). CV seems to be in a similar vein in that people can present with mild symptoms. The BIG difference though is that the number of severe cases are much more than the typical respiratory bugs we have at present.

I like your lateral thinking in exercising and testing the impact of your "flu". Though I personally don't recommend this as dehydration can possibly exacerbate the situation rather than help it. :)

There really isn’t a choice though is there? Not when you are aware of the risks, you say goodbye to your money otherwise you come across as one massive selfish hypocrite for not only putting yourself at risk but others.

I'm pretty sure I joined in on the bandwagon of the majority telling Vader to not be a stingy bastard!
We all could see that there was a risk at the time, and I'm sure Vader knew it himself. Just that at the time, the risk didn't outweigh the loss of $3000 or whatever the cost for him.

Kind of surreal looking back at those conversations now!

Why?

Did you ask when the trip was booked?

I have friends in Belgium who have booked for Australia in November - they booked last November . They have paid etc

Are they selfish?

If I felt any remote signs of fatigue or exhaustion in the initial part of working out or running I would have stopped immediately and not compromised my immune system/health.

I do keep fairly well hydrated before, during and after training so there is no issues there.

As I said my line of thinking is that if I had genuinely contracted a virus, flu, CV or anything else I was thinking it would have debilitated me to not be able to push through training, as it has in the past. Last year I had suffered from the flu for 8 weeks.

Seems a lot of people are forgetting what it is to be Australian, They are forgetting the community, mateship, looking after each other.
But that the Problem with diseases, it brings out the worse in people and make them think they are alone

Well one thing that will happen regardless of what we think, Most of us will recover, we will adapt, We will move on, and we will grow.
And it's Up to Us to lead the way.

One of my old CO's used to say in time's of trouble look to our Badge, there a reason we have a Kangaroo front and Centre.
The Same reason Australia Coat of the Arms has the Kangaroo and Emu.

When the trip was booked is irrelevant as to whether you would forgo $3k once you’ve booked knowing the risks if you went ahead with it.

So he put money first, as I said a massive hypocrite.

In fairness to Vader I explained to him how "unethically" he could have avoided not going and got his money back, without anyone really knowing or getting caught out.

He said basically to me he is not that type of person to resort to "unethical" measures. So I thought kudos to him for being like that.
