Yet I assume you have Waite in our team, who showed a lack of discipline numerous times last year that resulted in reports/suspensions. I know which is the bigger issue, especially when you factor in his importance to our structure...

I'm sure Thornton will play at some stage this year - I don't know why anyone would begrudge him a regular position if he earns it, nor be discontented with potentially another attacking option.

I will break it down so that you can keep up, the players you mentioned in post 535 no longer play for Carlton, unlike Thornton whom still does.

The point is, he hasnt really improved or changed his game from the 00s.

Carrazzo was a great player during out dark times but once we got better, his kicking was question so over pre-season he practised it.

You give me a best 22 where Thornton is in it, and I will leave Bigfooty forever.

I'd rather Waite be able to play higher up than the FF line so Thornton can offer an option at FUF.

Two kids who arent going to hold down a position like FUF in the near future(Mitchell/McCarthy)

Best 22 is the best TEAM we can put out structure wise.

What kind of a wank concept is it to have a "Best 22" where you have 8 half back flankers.

The backline has no relevance to the structure of the forward line and Thornton's new role.

You're bullshitting on about Houlihan and what exactly has he done preseason?

If round 1 was next week Thornton would be as good as anyone as a ready to go FUF option.

Two small, lightweight forwards on the half forward flank?

The oppoistion would be licking their lips at having to face that prospect.

Collins is a far better option to play a medium sized forward pocket than Robinson is.

He can actually kick goals and doesnt have anywhere near the brain fades Walker and Robinson have.

Henderson isn't suited to be a FUF yet. let the kid roam around the ground a bit more to develop his game before you decide plonk him at FUF in a role he could become bogged down with, lose confidence and stagnate his growth..

No where has anyone said Thornton is the answer to any of our problems, but he gives us an option to explore to fill a position we don't have anyone that suited to at present.

Seeing as we don't play through a FUF at present(like in the days of Fev) you put Waite or Henderson there you waste their potential for playing further up the ground.

I congratulate Ratts for thinking outside the box and trying something different.

Hasn't this thread degenerated? Thank goodness the game which is the subject of this thread has been & gone & we can close this thread.

Those posters (some who have been warned previously) who have decided to turn this thread into yet another opportunity to pursue personal agendas against other posters need to stop the personal attacks. We are very close to reaching a position of zero tolerance of this kind of behaviour.
