NAB Cup: Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs

Adelaide hotels/motels are booked out.

Flights are a problem as well.

There are too many things going on in Adelaide like the Festival of Arts, The Fringe, the Clipsal and of course The Adelaide Cup.

Just wondering, TK, where you think your team is in it's preparation for the main season.

My own impression is that the Dogs have got things bedded down reasonably well in terms of players and structure. Certainly more so than Port. We're still working on our rucks and forward line personnel with a bunch of new guys to be tried out whereas your lot are looking to add the final few pieces to your jigsaw puzzle and with Barry Hall added you are pretty close.

Am I right?

Yes, I think we know what out best 22 will be.... more less, Tommy Williams is the missing link...or should I say we need a CHB/third tall. Morris and Lake are our main tall defenders but we need a third option. They have been experimenting with Hahn.

The thing that we are doing is tackling a pressuring...that's what we need to do week in week out...I think and hope that the penny has dropped.

Should be a good game this week and you guys will be close to full strength and I think we will be except for Johnson.

I thought the current AFL policy was for the GF to be played in Melbourne.

Admittedly over the years this policy has chopped and changed.

Remember back in 2001 the GF was at AAMI and we drew 35K people and were criticised for the small crowd. Then in 2002 we had to play the GF in Melbourne even though we finished with the highest winning percentage at the end of the round-robin series. The GF crowd vs Richmond was a tad over 36K (I was there).

This policy position changed back to home GFs in 2006 when the AFC played Geelong at AAMI.

I am reasonably certain the AFL has changed it back to the GF being held in Melbourne.

Explain that logic to the Western Bulldog fans that are in the same boat?

They had to travel to Canberra the first week as well. if you win, you will get the Grand Finals at AAMI. Your goal ratio would be leading the pack at this stage.

and yes, this game will be on free to air TV as 7 and 10 get one semi finals each.

If we win, unless I'm wrong the grand final would be on skyshow night in the middle of clipsal 500 weekend. I'd say playing that game in Adelaide would be a terrible mistake.

thats SOOO unfair.
i was going to cancel my holiday just to go to AAMI to watch it and now.....
arggh
the only way they can make it even a little fairer is IF we beat WB we should host the gf.
But noo, i bet you not.

Bah! I dont care really I want our lads to be put to the test, and youngsters to experience the travel and the harsh realities of football being a business.

this game will give a better indication of our lads resolve, we can sit here and complain about fairness all day or we can go there and send a big message to the rest of the comp...This maybe NAB but this next game is a "more serious" test of our team right now.

+1

Our youngsters need more experience playing in Melbourne, not less. Treat this as a bonus, not a negative.

Fair or not fair i think the playing away is a good thing as when the real deal starts its going to be how well we go in away games that will determine how high we finish this year.....I Think:confused:

Rann keeps shooting himself in the foot

Not that we can really complain considering the turn out for our recent pre season games. Ah well, saves some money for the flight to Melbourne/drive to Mt Gambier next week

I really hope they do, because Victorian club supporters can't give a crap about us "interstaters" and the meca of sport would look stupid when their pre season final has 10 people there.

But I dount either of our side will make it when both are up against possible top 2 sides.

Flick Cloke and keep Moore unless injured. Broadbent could be ready to play again to? Starts getting tough, consider how more difficult if Hartlett was ready too.

everyone should send the AFL an angry email

Personally I think the way the VFL has treated our club since entering the competition has been a core reason behind our falling crowds. So the fans have already voted with their feet. Decisions like this wont win them back either.

why do you say that? What have they done to our club which is worse than others?

Umpiring (not emotional based - I did statistical analysis on this), guernsey, tribunal, heritage, scheduling, TV coverage... the list goes on.

Then there is the Victorian bias that has worked against all the Non Victorian clubs, which has included father-son rules, preliminary final rules, the monoloply on friday night football and marquee games and scheduling and FTA coverage in general.

The league has moved to right some wrongs, but I suspect for some it has been too little too late. I have friends, Port Adelaide supporters, who lost interest in the AFL a long time ago because of the above factors.

I know plenty of people who have lost interest in the AFL for many reasons.

As for your other issues. we aren't the only ones to suffer from live against the gate, but when you collect big coing for tv rights things will be comprimised.

The AFL has always recognised our heritage. we do have 1870 on our back yeah?

If they didn't buckley to Collingwoods demands I don't think we would have got in.

Umpiring and tribunal implies that the AFl is corrupt which I highly doubt they manipulate games. somethings are just coincidental.

Live against the gate is the real issue in todays age.

I do think however the AFL did take the SA market forgranted however. Both teams have been given fixtures, again probably determined from the TV rights. But they probably thought as a diehard footy state we would just go, I think they will realise this isn't happening.

I thought our home draw this year was quite reasonable.

All this whinging is making us sound like a bunch of little sissy's (no offence) if we aren't compalining about the Crows unfair advatage, we are complaining about the AFL or the SANFL. We need to toughen up as a club and supporters and just win games, make finals and premierships. we win, people will wanna watch. I remeber to 2006 noone wanted to watch Geelong either!

Reason its not in Adelaide is the Fringe/Festival being on.

This also means no chance of the GF being here as the Fringe/Festival and Clipsal 500/Skyshow would be on.

I dont actually mind ... hopefully we make it all the way and win in Melbourne twice .... exposure for the brand, and hopefully it means live broadcast into SA (which we may not have ogt for a home game).

The bulldogs played in pouring rain at Manuka, that’s just as difficult.

Did everyone else, who told this troll to go forth and multiply, get abusive pm's from him?.

Talk about a typical cows cry baby.

Now suck a lemon, pucker up, and kiss my arse, sunshine

Looks like Brogan, Boak, Gray, Tredrea and Motlop will be in. Good luck guessing the outs, even though Cloke was servicable, I would like to see him make way IMO as I think D Stewart really has something to show.

There are going to be some unlucky players, but that's a good thing. Considering the heat also I wonder if some mids will be rested with the shortened break, eg Logan, Salopek, Banner for example.

Even though rolling out closest to our grand 1 team would be nice.
