Yes we probably would. What happens if Fyfe leaves then Hogan re-signs?
Then you have 2.5mil in hand to play with and both the Saints and Dees are giggling like little school girls.

But surely Fremantle are allowing a certain amount of the cap for the homesick Hogan. I mean, it's painfully obvious he wants to be there.

I feel it's distasteful to even comment on Hogan at the moment regarding a trade. Much bigger things on that guys mind right now.

Rumours going around Perth that the leg he broke last year isn't quite right, contributing to his slow start this year.. Anyone in Perth have more info? If true i hope he goes and we get the Saints 2 first rounders.

I was responding to the guy saying we shouldn't pay Fyfe 1.5 mil at the start of a rebuild.
I understand that, but we were never paying Nick 1m a season at any point throughout our rebuild. You literally just picked a random player, and a random figure and made it out to be fact lol.

This is pretty much how I see it playing out - if Freo finish above Hawthorn, they'll probably match any offer, as the pick from the Hawks (which Saints currently own) is worth more than a compensation pick.

Where this gets interesting is what happens if Freo match and St Kilda refuse to trade. Does another club with ample salary space pick him up for nothing either of the national or preseason drafts?

Saints would trade. Will be very much like Danger and Treloar. At a guess - This years Hawks first, next years first with a second coming back.
I'd be shocked if ( if the statement is actually true ) that both parties didn't know and hadn't come to a rough enough conclusion.

Riewoldt was on 1 mil a year in 2013 and 2014.

Even if we were paying nick close to a mill a year for a year or two at the start of a rebuild...
A big chunk would have been under the veterans payments outside the cap.
Plus we're talking 5+ years on that mega money, not a year or two.
Plus 1.5mill is a LOT more than 1mill, even accounting for upcoming cap increases.

Ross lyon left a massive total player payments mess at the saints.
Him agreeing to commit 15% of freos cap to one guy who nominated another club while being the current captain would be seriously detrimental to freos rebuild.

I'd be furious as a freo fan if the club re-signed him on 1.5mil a year for 5+ years after he's just walked out and nominated another club.

A top 3 pick and another top 10 pick would be waaaayyyyyy more than Adelaide got for Danger in similar circumstances.

If Freo don't accept something close to what Adelaide got we could threaten to take him in the draft with the Hawks pick, or as someone else said, we could trade one or both of our other picks and say to them pick 3 and change or nothing.

It would still be way more than Adelaide got for Danger.

Food for thought: Would Freo match an insane offer knowing full well Jesse Hogan comes out of contract at the end of next year, and will likely command a similar pay packet?

That will be 2.5-3m tied up with 2 players.

Amazing to think that Hogan who has shown about 10% of Fyfe's ability is even in the same ball park for pay - simply because he plays forward and is 5cm taller. Go figure.

Well with the rising Salary cap, 1 mil in 2013 is pretty close to 1.5 mil in 2018. You're bagging us for doing what you did lol

Crows got picks 9, 28 and Gore (#55 in his draft) for a fully fit, no question marks Patty Dangerfield.

I doubt the Saints would point to Fyfe's leg and ask questions given the reported offer but a similar deal for Freo would be something like Saints 2017 1st rounder (About pick 10), Saints 2018 2nd rounder (Probably about pick 30-34) and Ed Phillips (#56 in his draft).

Lol can we get some lube with that?

The 2018 cap would need to rise by 25% for that to be true.

At most it will be half that.

Plus you are completely ignoring my point about the veterans list.

Literally half of riewoldts million bucks would likely have been paid outside the salary cap.

Are you saying that's not in line with the deal the Crows got for Dangerfield?

If Fyfe is leaving and the 2 clubs agree to a trade it's going to be closer to that deal than a Judd/Treloar type deal.
