Very, very difficult to imagine Fyfe leaving. Hill in, McCarthy in, Bennell on the Park, Lachie Neale hitting his stride, 7th pick in this years draft... Freo is looking a much better prospect than what they were halfway through last year. Fyfe will see that and presumably stay at home.

May be a factor, but after Buddy left Hawks won another two premierships. He clearly didn't leave just chasing success.

I presume he left for money, however Freo will be able to make Fyfe one of the best paid players in the league and presumably have been preparing to do so for some time.

So whys he put off the contract talks? If they can stitch him up then they would have already done it. No mistake he is looking around.
Of course he's looking around, why wouldn't he? A lot can change in 12 months, there's nothing to gain from rushing to sign the deal. I can see this thread turning into the Hogan thread Mk. II, ironically with the Freo supporters on the other side of the fence

Why hasn't Bruest signed? Martin? They are all just trying to get the most $$$ from their clubs.

Seriously, if you think Freo or Rich are going to let Fyfe or Martin leave for a compo pick, then you are kidding yourself. The game is a business and clubs will want more than a solitary pick for their superstars.

The Hawks have no currency to get any trades done...Well unless Cloke comes on the market again lmao

He was a keen Tiger suporter and was hoping to get drafted by Richmond, so it may sway his decision a little.

Was a huge richmond fan before being drafted by Freo, his favorite player is Richo..
So? If I recall correctly Judd and Franklin were Dees supporters but that didn't mean much.

Clubs players supported when they were growing up essentially go out the window when they get drafted.

He'll go to the best situation for a flag and then get matched by Freo.

Really? They have another crap year he goes.

I agree in general but add the two first rounders we have to offer and space in our cap and it could be a deciding factor, Im sure most still have a soft spot for the team they supported, obviously many other considerations would come first but if it was a toss up between Richmond and the Saints then it may help.

If fyfe was going to resign and theres a huge contract from freo, i believe he would of already, as there is a chance he wont be the player he used to be even a chance the leg wont hold up at all. So be a huge risk to take not to sign atm. This is unlike danger, franklin etc etc he has a risk and possibly a huge one added.

I would love him at my club but wont happen, so rather he stayed at freo just cant see it happening anymore

But Buddy like Ablett already had 2 flags. I'd think an extra 200-300k a year is pretty tasty when you've already delivered the ultimate. Fyfe hasn't yet, who knows whether it is a factor, but something I consider to be different to the situations of Ablett/Buddy.

The salary cap for next year hasn't even been set yet.

Why would he sign now and possibly lose out on cash?

Fyfes playing the media as much as anything else. He's found a great way to get back into the spotlight (which he loves).

He might be genuinely looking around but a lot of this thread is at this stage pretty laughable.

In about 7-8 months I'll start to worry.

We have shored up our list, put guys in right around Fyfe's age filled all the gaping holes bar a ruck.

We have these guys locked in for 3 years, Neale has just re-signed, and there is a cap increase coming.

We have another 7 senior players on good coin who will transition out over the next 2 years to be replaced by first year draftees.

I see no reason he cant get what he wants here. We can drop a 5 year contract in front of him worth 1 mill plus and can heavily front load it from 2018 as guys like Suban, Ballantyne, Griffin etc are pushed out...You'd think there's a million in wages just between those 3 that will be replaced by first years on 60-80k.

If the guys below are on 300k each (which is unders overall) there's 3.3 mill in wages going out the door in the next two years. IMO all of the bolded will be gone by end 2018, with Sandi likely too. Mundy might still be hanging on. You reckon we can't arrange to give Fyfe the lion's share of that?
Mundy
Sandi
Johnson
Ibbotson
Suban
Ballantyne
Dawson
Danyle Pearce
Jon Griffin
Barlow Silvagni

Would not be surprised to see him in brown and gold in 12 months time. Reckon there might be an offer there already.
