While injuries did occur, Fyfe played 5 games for 5 losses. Injured in the 5th game but played the first half and Freo were losing at halftime to Carlton at home. Freo looked so slow with their ball movement, the reason why they had a bad year was more to do with game style than injuries.

Also the players they have recruited are b grade players, they are all role players. McCarthy who hasn't played any football for over a year replaces Pav, Hill replaces Mundy in the forward line but lose a lot of forward pressure. They add a decent defender in Hamling and medium forward in Kerstan, those aren't list changes that bring you from the bottom 4 to finals.

Amazing how you rate B Hill, Hamling, McCarthy and Bennell B grade players, Check out what their previous clubs supporters had to say about them.

And how long has Mundy been playing forward for, you honestly think Hill will replace Mundy in the side ? NFI

Sorry meant Mayne not Mundy, you lose players you gain players. Losing Pav, Mayne, Barlow and replacing with McCarthy, Hill, Hamling and Kersten. I didn't say they are bad players, they are nice pick ups but they aren't stars that will turn a team around. Bennell is an A grade and will be a great addition. Fyfe and Johnson played 4 games together for 4 losses before they went down injured, it was game style the reason Fremantle dropped off dramatically and all I'm saying it will be game style the reason Fremantle will get them back into finals contention over the players they have picked up IMO. Fremantle can play finals as they proved as recent as 2015 with this list but they have to get their game plan correct.

Freo won't be able to match Hawks on pure monetary value.

Lot of room in the cap for years. We have chased guns for years knowingly having alot of space and other than Neale and Sandilands, we haven't got anyone taking bulk space. It only gotten better with Pavlich retiring. I dare say we have more cap space than the Hawks currently but a bulk delisting of top tier contacted players could change that easily.

:D That makes more sense re: Mayne, even so Kersten or McCarthy will take his spot, did you know Mayne is about the same size as Dunstall was in his playing days.

As for game style Roscoe has publicly said we drifted too far from our core principles last year, and will address that over the pre season.

That is the reason most of us are optimistic for next season, Roscoe knows how much heat will be on him if we fail miserably again next year. Most of us are reasonable and expect to rise up the ladder, maybe not finals but fairly close.

Then why couldn't they keep Buddy ?

They had to shaft Mitchell for cap space for JOM, Spud and TMitchell, next year 3 more will be gone but they are supposedly on reduced contracts, so they can stay together hur hur.

Tell me how much money do you think Hawks will throw at Fyfe and how much we don't have.

We could barely match Sydneys offer for Franklin and knew our list wouldn't benefit from paying him that much.

I would have as little clue as anyone else, but you'd assume it would be a 3-5 year 1-1.2 mil per year type of deal.

If Freo draft English next month, a plan of having Sandi retire to allow for Fyfe to get a huge contract could work I think he is keen to stay as long as freo show something next year.

English is still 2 or 3 pre seasons away imo.

Ultimately the amount available will be between 95 & 105% of the cap as to whom ever can set the price & the term if the contract.
Everyone has the same starting point & the list management plan until 2022-25 will be the determining factor in how many players can be paid during that period on the current lists & what will be required during that process in the list rejuvenation to maintain a side that can contend in finals.

Not sure why Hawthorn suddenly think they're going to outcash everyone?

Thought Sammy & Lewis were on 'take one for the team' salaries and I'm guessing that concept died when the family club became the down to business club?

Nah Sammy was on 600 K or so for 2017 and Lewis around the 500 K mark, it was Burgoyne, Hodge and Gibbo that took the largely reduced salaries and thats probably why they weren't move on.

He will be a RFA wont he? So if he did want to leave Freo will just match and force a trade

Without a doubt and I'm guessing our club may just be a little hard and cranky to deal with at the trade table.

Aren't you the guy that said with absolute conviction that Brad Hill demanded pick 7?

We'd match to force a trade, and you bloody bet any trade will require more than a top 5 pick.

no that wasn't me and you would be expecting more than Dangerfield ? why ?

Be silly to match and end up settling for less than the compo.

It was haha, don't shirk it now.

But anyway, match it to keep him and or demand what's required as what's different with Dangerfield situation is he nominated a club that didn't quite have the currency to get the deal over the line, the picks touted to be involved to get Fyfe? They'll have the picks admittedly and if the situation demands it, it'd be remiss of us not to consider it.

Also about Dangerfield, he was returning home. Fyfe if he does chose to go interstate will most certainly not be going home, he will not have that luxury of understanding per say.
