Really interesting looking at it. Our fwd line group now consists of:
Talls: Mihocek, Kreuger, McStay, Cox
Medium: Elliott, Hoskin-Elliott, Lipinski (more a high hf / wing)
Smalls: Hill, McCreery, Schultz, Harrison, Richards
Looks good, but I would swap Elliot into smalls and McCreery into mediums. McCreery is definitely not small.

It was more about style than stature. Elliott is a lead-up option for us, whereas McCreery is a linking pressure forward

McCreery is definitely not small.
In terms of his actually offensive output, he actually does play small.

He's not strong overhead and mostly just relies on pace for his goals. Obviously when it comes to tackling and throwing his weight around, he knows how to do that, but it doesn't come up in terms of forward craft.

I wish he was a guy you could isolate out of the goal square every now and then like a De Goey or even how Jaidyn Stephenson could occasionally, but it's not really his thing.

Stepho was leading the league for marks inside 50 that year before his gambling ban. Looking back on his footy since, the AFL would have done hin a favour if they had've given him a life ban - he would have been deified and exaggerated as a footballing god.

He would've gone down as a potential Collingwood GOAT if he never played again after that early form.

We would be telling our kids about Stephenson the superstar, cruelly cutdown by sportsbet :(

+ AJ

(He’s terribly out of form, but we’ve seen what he’s capable of at his best, and he is still on our list)

Yep. Gets forgotten how well he started 2019. His pace, combined with quick ball movement from a dominant midfield, made him a tough matchup. He had the perfect situation to start his career, and I think his attributes even contributed to our change in style. Sad how quickly and stupidly that was thrown away.

Stevo is quite similar to WHE, possibly even quicker and more talented. Bit of a difference in application though.

Maybe quicker, but not more talented. WHE much better overhead mark. WHE kicked 42 goals in 2018 starting out of the goal square before Buckley started to rotate him and De Goey plus Stephenson through. De Goey ended up with the most time at full forward in the end kicking 48 goals.

I think WHE could kick 40 - 50 goals playing out the goal square if allowed.

Yep. Stepho could only dream of being as valuable to a team as our Wilba.

Will never have the same selflessness or versatility as the Hyphen.

I thought he was going to be an absolute star. When the gambling was first announced it was nameless: "young collingwood star" ... I was thinking, anybody but Stepho.

I posted here about him after he played in the TAC Cup Grand Final as a 16 year old.

Then in his draft year, I said "If Stephenson is there, I have little to no doubt that he'll be the pick."

Nobody was more excited about us getting him than me, and then he won the Rising Star, looked great in year 2, and had genuinely one of the biggest falls off a cliff of any player in recent memory.

Just made some really stupid decisions and then decided he didn't even know how to play footy anymore.

That’s a tough decision for anyone to have to make, but you’ve gotta respect him for it .

A bit disappointing, but only his 2nd game back after a long out. Took attention of others.

He was alright. Just needed to finish. Loved the late contested mark in the dukes.

He did a few really impressive things that our alternative options such as AJ, Frampton and Cox aren’t capable of.

I reckon that late mark was awesome. Big Kreugs is one to persist with

It was very much an almost game for kreuges, but I was happy with him

  • Got a goal, if he kicks straight he has 3
  • That brilliant handball over his head to WHE to kick the goals
  • Ferocious run down tackle in the fwd 50, don't see that from too many blokes his size
  • his speccy in the last

But probably the thing I appreciated the most is something that he won't get stats for, and that is whenever he could make a contest, he at least brought it to ground. One thing I hate to see is when a key forward gets out marked - obviously you're not going to mark everything but at least bring it to ground so our crumbers can get to it
