I assume we're allowed to elevate rookies overnight? Aarts and Pickett both have contracts longer than their rookie eligibility window so we may as well do it now rather than wait till next year.

Why? If they stay on the rookie list for their last years their allowed we get to keep $90,000 of their wage outside the salary cap. Then they get upgraded next year because they have to be.

We have to fill one more senior list spot somehow though. Better a player we know will be around than having some dud stuck on the list for two years.

NEAFL was cancelled (permanently), all the NEAFL players played in the QAFL. He has signed with Canberra Demons as their #1 ruck before COVID hit.

Really appreciate that information mate, I didn’t actually think of that. Thank you for dropping in and passing that on.

I noticed you’d actively posted in the QAFL thread, have you watched much of Samson Ryan, I’d love to know your thoughts on him if you d had the opportunity to watch him ply?

I can see the logic on passing on our third pick. Better to elevate either Aarts or Pickett (which we need to do at the end of next season) instead of giving a 2 year contract to a selection that is iffy.

Expect us to land a couple of gems via the Rookie Draft.

Glad we've traded into next year's draft instead. Obviously clubs (besides the Pies) are extremely skeptical of this draft, especially given how many highly ranked prospects went undrafted. This year looks like it'll be luck of the draw, and then we get 2 first rounders next year

Righteo, so because we drafted a ruck it means we’re gonna get rid of all our young tall players? All those players aren’t first choice rucks, they’re blokes that can pinch hit there.

In all likelihood whoever we drafted wasn’t going to contribute heavily in getting the three peat anyway.

it does make sense, he's ready to go Rd 1 at 206 cm and 96 kg if need be

Other than that, we'll have to fill the spot in the PSD or sign a delisted FA.

I think the Sam Ryan pick was a good pick. 206cm and 96kgs. He could probably add 6 to 8kgs in size but he can be competitive if we need to use him.

Having a super strong hand in next years draft is critical for us to be able to stay at the top longer. For me trading out this year for a first rounder next year was the right strategy. Nextyears draft is deep and strong. We will get good players in next year.

There’s very limited information out there on Samson Ryan but I cannot help but think the club has probably gone and done some far more serious scouting and watching of him that what any other club has.

He appears to have done really well in the QAFL and is a fantastic size. The fact he’s born in December and has only tuned twenty today shows he was always one of the youngest in his age group and bits of course always take longer to develop.

In more recent times both Rohan Marshall and Sam Draper who are a similar size, went undrafted and were then picked up in the rookie draft.They’re now two of the more promising ruckman in the competition.

Should go with a high risk / high reward KPF in the Rookie Draft

Either Kolar or Baldwin
