I find it mind boggling that everyone has Port selecting a tall

Unless they truly see Georgi as the 4th tall?

Todd, Georg, Luko, Finlay and Lord

Surely 3 of those 5 will make their KPF stock for the next 8 years (finlay probs not but the other 4)

They have numbers but not a lot of quality. Luko and Finlayson aren't really KPFs anyway.

Marshall’s but a standard hip and shoulder away from retirement.

Both luko and George are 3rd tall types.- and that’s probably being generous to luko - SOFT

Lord is their only true kpf and whilst promising originally he regressed last year whilst also being a later draft pick

If shanahan or Armstrong are available , even Whitlock (almost certainly will be)his ability to chop out in the ruck a major bonus id 💯 be taking one of them in their situation

Yeah but if we don't draft well we will fall off a cliff like 2016 when we had like 6 years of dud draft picks.

We’re already at two years tbh.

And it’s not like we didn’t draft anyone decent between 2010 and 2015 - Neale and Pearce are pretty handy. Two very good players and some fringe role players over a six year period isn’t good enough. It’s quite possible only Draper makes it from our 2022 and 2023 picks if you want to be as negative is reasonably possible.

That is being harsh on the 22 year considering the positions they are playing & that they have been getting some games. Sure, we won’t have a spot for them all if they come on but we can still flip for picks / other players to plug depth.

2023 is too early to tell and we basically flipped some of that currency for Bolton so a good decision.

Our issue is a bit different to the old days since we now barely have a bust so it’s now hard to fit them all in the team.

I have to say, I’m pretty peeved at this talk we’re trying to trade up the order using our second round pick. We literally had picks 10&11, did we really think “no worries, we’ll trade them both to the Tigers, then just jump back ahead of them with 14&30”
Pick 14 (17 on the night) is right on the cusp of the drop off, I’d say it is actually on the other side of the drop except it looks like a few talls are going to move up so we should land one of Berry, Hotton or Reid, looking like we are no where near Lindsay and Travaglia any more, pick 11 should have given us a choice, now we are taking the scraps. I am not a fan of the risk Hotton presents, would be happy with Berry or Reid, but if WC take Reid and Port take Berry, I will be fuming.

Thankfully Port seem near certain to take a tall.

I think the only player I'd pick ahead of Berry is Lindsay, but it doesn't look like we'll get that choice now. Travaglia would be nice, I could live with Reid, but I'm not a fan of Hotton.

Cal reckons a bid on Ascroft won't come until around pick 5.
Can anyone explain to me why clubs want the reigning premiers to pay **** all for the best player in the draft?

No idea.

Some say clubs don't look at them very closely as they know they can't get them.

It probably only takes them to believe Ashcroft is 2 or 3 percent worse than he is, for him to slide 3 or 4 picks. Also, I don't believe Ashcroft is clear number 1 pick, he is probably should go 2 or 3.

What's the risk in bidding anyway? Brisbane aren't going to not match, and on the unlikely chance they did you end up with Aschroft and can spend the next three years reminding him that Brisbane didn't want him unless he was on the bargain basement floor.
Brisbane are the reigning premiers. Clubs should be looking for any opportunity to make them bleed a little.

Very little risk in bidding for a top 4 pick worth player, especially where Brisbane picks are.

I would say the risk increases after pick 10, especially if the club has not traded away their good picks for points, and rate other players higher.

I was just looking at some clips. Seems like we are favoured to get Berry but if we miss him I wouldn't mind Oliver Hannaford.

He just looks like a Freo player. Reminds me of Ballantyne. Tough, hard at it, quick, a bit of mongrel and loves a goal.

Could definitely see him in Purple.

Even if we get Berry, I would be happy to trade a future 2nd pick to upgrade our 2nd pick to get him.

Probably unlikely, as we have NGA players next year.

Happy Draft Day to all who celebrate and observe. Git r done Wallsy!

Is this the least interested this board has been in a draft? Barely any posts compared to usual.

We’re very much just seeing who gets through.

We’ll only be adding one player today and two tomorrow. Adding Knobel back onto the list will be the only thing we do on Friday.

I don’t blame this board for being less excited. I just want a good mix of players to complement the squad we have. Drafting for one position and one position only as some on here seem to want to do (small forward) will only leave us with sh** depth somewhere else in as little as 2-3 years.
