Leaves us with either Murphy Reid (who I do think is a very good player) or going 'early' on another forward type - Dattoli, Hynes, Hannaford, Alger. Maybe even brings Oliver into the first round mix for us.

With where our list is at I have no problem reaching for a player in a position of need.

I agree with Sturt, but I don't think Frederick and Switta kick enough goals.

I think they could be pushed higher up the ground, if we had good small forwards.
agree. watched a fair bit of Port this year and saw how much Rioli contributed to their wins and getting them back in it after losing momentum. kicked 33 and 13 goal assists. IMO one of the biggest reasons this year they were in it to win it.

We haven't had that since Ballas and a prime Walters. It's the one area we are weak in and will need to contend. Shai will make a big difference but we need a permanent goal hungry small forward that can make goals happen out of almost nothing, not just tackle well and pressure.

why the but? thats exactly what shai will bring? he also just adds an unrivalled CC game as well. cant lose really

Bolton's great and all, but how much fun would today have been with 10,11 and 14?
I know you're joking but how are we getting 14? If that was the case, I assume we would end up with Lindsay, Berry & Reid on the latest mail.

It doesn't move the flag needle in 2024 and Berry is probably kicking 15 goals rather than Bolton's 45+ AA year.

I think we will have our eyes on one of Reid, Lindsay, Berry or Oliver. These would be in the upper echelon of kicks in the pool, and I would think that should be a priority. It sounds like we are prepared to burn 30 if necessary to get one of the first three.

Well, we do only get to field 18 guys at at time and having four C/B graders watching from the stands doesn't make the one B grader on the field into an A grade talent.

Buy the best talent we can afford.

I think you've got unrealistic expectations of Frederick tbh.

He's over a goal a game and plays most of his footy on the HFF.

Pretty much every opposition fan I know would gladly take him off us. Same with Switta although the criticism around goals kicked is probably more valid imo.

I am not saying they are not best 22, just that both of them would play higher up the ground and we would have larger goal threats closer to goal.

Cant Speak Nathan Fillion GIF

I think most people agree coming into this draft that we should target a small forward with our first pick and hence all the focus has been on Berry and Hotton. But looking at both of them they are definitely not your typical small forward (like a Kossie, Watson, Hill etc) they are both more high half forwards. Rather than target them just because they are supposedly small forwards I would rather take the best available (if it is them thats fine but whoever is best regardless of position) and then take Hugh Davies with our second pick as a high half forward (he’s not in Twoomey’s top 30 so should be still available). Davies has a huge tank (5th in 2k at national combine), was best on ground for Claremont’s colts GF and more importantly played 7 league games including the Elimination final against EF where he got 21 disposals and kicked 4 (could have been 6?).

The write up on Berry is he plays like Dylan Moore. Hotton has been compared to Toby Greene.

I think if either one ended up like those two players, we could make it work in our side.

Finding a pure gun small forward who you draft as that and can only play one position is extremely hard considering most gun kids play midfield as juniors.

Toby Greene would be handy.

Yeah, we really need for it to be known North are going to trade for one of GWS's picks if Richmond go small at 14. Feels like the only way to stop them (rightfully) holding off till 18 for a tall.

Still, I really like Reid as well and happy for him to be the consolation prize if we miss Berry

Or we could see…

14. Richmond - Berry
15. West Coast - Hotton
16. Port Adelaide - Reid

Leaving us with either a tall or we pick from that next tier.

Why would Murphy Reid slip out of the top ten?

Slow and small. Also question marks over his defensive application. Apparently does not chase and tackle with much intent.

Sounds to me like he is somewhere on the scale of Sidebottom (excellent) to Josh Ward (OK), but I think it would be pretty unlikely for him to be at the Sidebottom end, and a good chance he is closer to (or even below) the level of Ward. Will trust in Walls if we pick him, but I'd much rather Berry or Lindsay.

Jesus I'd be so angry

Simply for the angry reacts...

1. Richmond - Sam Lalor
2. North Melbourne - Finn O'Sullivan
3. Carlton - Jagga Smith
4. Adelaide - Harvey Langford
5. Brisbane (bid) - Levi Ashcroft
6. Melbourne - Bo Allan
7. Richmond - Sid Draper
8. St Kilda - Xavier Lindsay
9. Gold Coast (bid) - Leo Lombard
10. Essendon (bid) - Isaac Kako
11. GWS (trade with Saints) - Tobie Travaglia
12. Melbourne - Alix Tauru
13. Richmond - Josh Smillie
14. Richmond - Joe Berry
15. West Coast - Taj Hotton
16. Port Adelaide - Murphy Reid
17. Fremantle -

It's not impossible. Maybe a team like Sydney looks for a trade up with us to jump ahead for a tall?
