Interesting that Berry is linked at a lot of picks before us. Saints at 7/8, Dees at 9, Richmond at 10,11, Eagles at 12 (via the West), Port at 13 not listed by Twomey but has been linked elsewhere. But still seems the most likely one to be there at our pick

Also, Cal mentioned today that the Lions are sweating on where the pick comes for Ashcroft because there is a maximum points deficit they can go into with the new rules coming in next year, and sounded like it could effect matching Sam Marshall. Cal has him expected to be bid on at 5, why cant clubs grow some balls and bid on someone you know is 100% being matched?

Especially from the flag winner. It's just dumb, make them pay full price and then some if you can

Twomey got the whole top 20 mostly spot on last year. He had the GWS picks back to front (but correct players), and the only thing he stuffed up was Curtin and O'Sullivan. And even then, in the comments he said Adelaide were trying to trade up to get Curtin, and O'Sullivan was one of the main 3 options for Geelong.

Maybe this draft is a bit different with it being less clear cut, but I reckon Berry to Freo is looking like a 70-80% chance of happening.
Late mail normally changes a few things, but i am getting excited.

Richmond wont bid at pick 1 as the pick 1 gets some $$ from the AFL and it sends a message to them that we thought the other guy was better (which he probably is but its the sentiment) than their pick

It absolutely sickens me. Sometimes I wonder are these teams even in genuine competition with each other?

Carlton have zero excuses not to bid on Ashcroft - they are in the window and a direct rival for the next 2 or 3 years of the lions.

I really hope we bid on Marshall like it’s been speculated too.
100% they will match regardless. Make them pay!!

Will be watching saints very closely too after all Andrew Bassetts whinging. They bloody better bid on Lombard at 7 or 8 otherwise they have just about zero credibility.

Oh 100% agree.

Can't shake the feeling it may have something to do with player managers given how dodgy they seem to be with the revelations over the last 3 years.

Something along the lines of if you draft my client you won't sign another one of my players or they will request trades.

It's the only way the late bids over the last few years for father sons make sense to me.

Marshall would be a nice get.

Still shits me to tears that of course the only player who got bid on earlier than they should was Henry.

It's almost like clubs are scared of payback (which I think is a stupid reason). Clubs also seemed scared to hurt the feelings of their top pick ... "yeah, we picked you, but you were only option B".

It will be the Freo way that when Robinson's draft comes around, he will be rated in the 5-10 range and some knobhead will bid on him with pick 1.

Yeh I don't understand it. Premierships are won & lost at trade & draft time. They are going to be competing against these teams especially last year's premier. Why would you not try to weaken them (even if it's slightly) by making them pay the maximum.

I don't get it either , Ashcroft is the best player in the draft and should be bid on at number one, Who cares if your number one becomes pick 2 , just explain to them that you were always gonna pick them but strategically it was in the best interests of your club to make Brissy pay maximum price. So your player doesn't get the pick one bonus or the extra pressure of being the first pick, just tell him the bonus money will be factored in next contract

If only we could have got a fairer deal for Bolton. 10 18 and 30 for Shai and one of their picks in the 20s.
Richmond zero interest in a pick in the 30’s.

10 and 18 plus future pick swap out second for their third. End of the day we dropped 3 spots for the cost of that F3. The Richmond F3 is handy. I reckon we’ll keep that and possibly use our own F3 to try and upgrade one of second or third picks.

Yeah I know but having 11 rather than 14 would give us options whereas now it looks like we will basically have to take whoever is left from that 2nd tier of talent. No other clubs would have handed over what we did. Only us and GC.

And WC. We got the best deal of all three dealing with Richmond IMO - all things considered

It's easy to talk tough but would you prefer to be sitting here with pick 10, 11 & 18 or Bolton & 14?

It would have been a travesty if we didn't get Bolton and it would have cost us in 2025. He had a 3 year contract too so Richmond had all the cards.

Yep, even if you take into account a potential haul of Berry, Lyndsay and Allen (wow!). They all look like they could debut next season, but they would still not be capable of actually winning us games in the manner Bolton can. Our time is now.

Not a single player drafted will have more impact than Shai Bolton does for Freo in 2025
