The draft is so different now.
Was always expecting our 1st pick to get pushed back, but also thought our second pick would move forward due to picks in between disappearing for matching. That just didn't happen as clubs needing points are now able to keep trading those 2nd round picks for more junk points. Picks 3, 9, 14, 15, 19, 24, 26 were all created by matching bids, but only 1 pick under 30 (26) was used for matching bids.
Looks like we will be one of the main players in supplying junk picks next year and be able to exploit the situation.

But still seems strange that Gold Coast can match 4 bids in the first round and still have a pick left to cash out for a 2024 fourth rounder. Not like they started with a heap of currency - they had traded out Chol, E Hollands & Chris Burgess.
Feels like those stories you hear where someone starts with a dollar or something and keeps swapping it for other items until they end up with a house.

We traded a "pass" for their 4th rnd pick.

Sure a 4th end pick may not be worth much, but it is worth more than "pass".

Even trolling Dodoro out of 100 draft points is very satisfying.

when is rookie draft how many spots we have left how many selctions will we have

Rookie draft is tomorrow, I believe.

And I think we have 6 rookies on the list atm, which leaves us with 2 available selections (Bradtke gone, and Miller elevated). Could use both tmr, or use 1 tmr, and leave 1 open for the MSD.

Suns have 1 next year and Brisbane have Levi Ashcroft as a F/S (not sure about other clubs).

Suns also have another 5 academy players coming in 2025 as well, if memory serves me right, so we can also use picks there as well.
With more Queensland's playing footy gold coast and Brisbane will be able to have a full team of academy players. They can just trade their draft picks every year for points and just be permanently in the finals. Sounds great!

I think its only the one pick tomorrow. Lost Biggy, Miller and Bradtke from the rookie list, but already added Coulthard and Trezise.

The younger Ashcroft is rated better than Will!! They will trade out any high end picks for sure, but they’ll be in contention again next season unfortunately

Richmond will only be after any rd 1 pick to satisfy the requirements to take a 2 rd 1 picks in a 4 year period or whatever it is. Then it allows us to use our 2 firsts 2024, 2025 for a Cadman, King or whoever.

Still have 5 of the players I was keen on available but also a few sliders who I didnt expect to be there. With that in mind

First pick:
Mitch Edwards 206cm 89kg Ruck Peel Thunder
Ollie Murphy 200cm 85kg KPD Sandringham Dragons
Archer Reid 203cm 94kg KPF Gippsland Power
Zane Zakostelsky 196cm 89kg KPD Claremont
Arie Schoenmaker 194cm 89kg Defender Tasmania Devils

Second Pick:
George Stevens 189cm 101kg Midfielder GWV Rebels
Clay Hall 189cm 87kg Midfielder Peel Thunder
Joel Freijah 190cm 88kg Midfielder GWV Rebels
Kane McAuliffe 187cm 86kg Midfielder North Adelaide
Cooper Simpson 181cm 79kg Midfielder Dandenong Stingrays
Got one right RT. That’s an achievement.

Just finished watching and haven’t read anything on here today. Should be hilarious.

I happy with this year. There wasn’t much in the free agent pool and we lacked the draft capital to chase a player that might have made a difference next year.

We secured our draft target and payed what we wanted to. Secured an extra second round pick.

Come draft night we collected two 3rd rounders for a pick around 30.

Would of been perfect if we’d moved nankervis instead of Soldo.

The narrative of rule changes coming in next year around academy / points matching and how that will work against our 2024 pick haul may be off the mark.

Could be wrong but any rule change would mean clubs have to pay a "fairer" value, so maybe their discounts will be reduced?

That would mean they need to accumulate more picks and that can only work to our advantage. Either way, I can't see how having more picks can work against us.

On a separate note, Matt Clarke turning 35 into 40 + two future picks - if that was another club the same people criticising him would be praising the opposition list manager.

Yep was a brilliant move. Especially if we wanted McAuliffe anyway.

Weird question, but what did we do with Port’s future 4th during the trade period (which we got for soldo)
We still have that.
2nd rnd Freo, 3rd Rnd Freo, 3rd rnd WC, 4th rnd Essendon, 4th rnd Port.

Matt Clarke pretty much confirmed what we already suspected. The intent is to trade up in the draft with those picks to clubs needing points for F/S or academy bids next year.

So Carlton have 2 x F/S in the Camporeale twins, Brisbane have Levi Ashcroft and another academy kid, Gold Coast have Leo Lombard and Adelaide has a father son in Tyler Welsh.

Let the babies have their bottles. Win a flag or two during some of the most detrimental conditions and then tell me how good you are. That 2017 -2020 side was unreal. If it wasn’t us I’d still think it
