So 212 pages and collectively we still have no idea who we may pick, where our NGA's might fall and who we may select with late picks.

I'm calling it now - none of us are ITK's.

There is no such thing as knowing who we will pick, because it depends who the other teams pick and don't pick.

So the two most likely to draft Owen's in the 20 are GWS, a team that has unlimited access to its own Academy, or the premiers.
You could not make this shit up. AFL allow a finalist to grab an NGA as no.1 but a team who has not won a flag in 56 years potentially miss a NGA to the AFL love child or the team that just won the flag.

AFL is so pathetic.

I noticed shifter has compared Sinn to Christian Salem which suggests he also sees him a back flank type.

I like the Ward comparison, a Zach Merrett type would he a handy addition.

Anyone else surprised to hear that Windhager was compared to Rozee?

I mean I’ll definitely take that, but I didn’t get, that impression. Great name though - Windhager, lots of power in that.

Also, Sinn has really grown on me. He’s a nice size, and I’m yet to be convinced that he can’t play midfield. But even if he’s always a defender, could be the best player at our pick. Lots to unfold we may even get a slider from the top 10!

My mate that is pretty well connected said that we are very very keen on Sinn. Not sure where he heard it though, he was talking generally about the draft and said it like it was a done deal. Not my first choice but not the worst choice. I guess if someone slides then anything can happen though.

Have liked Sinn from the get go, gives us that extra run off the backline (can see him developing into midfield later)

*** Looks supremely confident with ball in hand.

Big problem with this draft is looking at only a handful of games that players have played and a few of these kids missed games through injury so really the recruiting scout will have to be at his best to sort the wheat from the chaff.
Big issues with some of the top draft picks in the phantom drafts - is Darcy really that good to be rated in the top 3 , I can't see him being anywhere close to Max King and another guy who is rated in the top 10 is Andrew Mac , really is he that good - not too many ruckman even make the top 10.
Also I see kids rated highly after staring in the WAFL colts - when a guy like Naughton was taken out side the top 10 when he was playing seniors.
Every draft is a toss up but this year is really a lucky dip.

All I know is our current recruiting team has knocked it out of the park the last few years with very few top 10 picks
Bytel
Byrne
Connolly
Allison
Highmore
Heath
Sharman
Paton
I wouldn't put Allison in as knocking out of the park. He needs to get going in2022 or he might not get a new contract.

A number of articles I have read have suggested that Saints will draft either Gibcus or Andrew if they are available at pick 11.

Then when listening to podcasts like ‘Road to the Draft’ a mock draft (with Twomey and Sheehan selecting alternatively) has Saints drafting Andrew at pick 11. The SuperFooty mock draft also has us drafting Andrew at pick 11.

I have no idea about what we will do, but there seems to be plenty of smoke suggesting we will draft either tall if they are available at pick 11. Presumably we believe both Owens and Windhager will slide past pick 20.

But if both Andrew and Gibcus are drafted prior to pick 11 I wonder if we might be tempted to trade down. Nothing but conjecture on my part.

You could hardly say knocked out of the park. All of those players listed are still very speculative.

A lot of that seems to based on an assumption that we need a key defender. Rats seems happy to go with Howard and Wilkie as our FB and CHB with help from Highmore. Battle will playing in defence this year. Then we’ve got Joyce and Allison as backups. I don’t feel there’s a desperate need for another tall defender.
I also think we’ve got plenty of height in the forward line so Andrew isn’t a desperate need. I also think he’ll be gone by our first pick, although if he’s available he might be too tempting to let go.
My view has been the same for a while now, we need pace and skills through the midfield. Anyone with those attributes should be the priority. If we end up with one of Erasmus, Sinn and Johnson plus our two NGAs I think we’ll have done well. (Hopefully we’ll continue our recent trend off plucking a gem in the 50s or rookie draft).

I would not be upset with any of those 3 scenarios to be honest.

I'd he happy to trade down for the right price as long as we were still in a good range.

Gibcus looks like a star and we haven't got a good tall key defender on our list other than Marshall. At 196cm and the ability to defend one on one as well as take intercept marks he's the perfect modern day defender.

Andrew has an enormous amount of talent, could play either the forward-ruck role or even key defence.

I'd prefer we were able to trade down and still be able to take a Sonsie, Sinn or Goater as well as another pick but it would more than likely have to be a future pick to go with it.

Erasmus/Sinn/Johnson + NGAs and then a key defender backup in the rookie draft or with a late pick would be an unreal haul considering our hand. Elite prospect, 2 high end mids for essentially nothing and then a fit the needs defender

Seems it was done more out of necessity than anything. Frawley was clearly the preferred option going into the season until injury hit.

I think if Ratten had the choice he'd love another tall key defender which would be half the reason we have chosen to try Battle in defence again.

We'll have to see if that works out or not.

Done a lot of reading about prospects this off season and the players I reckon we will/should choose from are

1: NWM. His kicking is elite and that is something we are missing on all lines. Would be so good having someone like him kicking into King rather than our current mids.

2: Sinn - for the same reasons as above but also forces Clark to be pushed into midfield from the back line. Beautiful kicks and line breakers from the back line are so important nowadays as they can break up zone defences. Just look what Daniel rich does for Brisbane or Christian Salem to see how important that are.

3: Matthew Johnson - in my view the best remaining midfielder after all the top picks are gone.

The last point on these 3 is that recruiters think their ceiling is really high rather than "you know what you're getting types*. Sinn was potential no 1 a year ago but has had injuries, NWM has come late with a bullet and has traits that just screen AFL and Roberts a bit the same.

Anyway that's my take

NWM wouldn't be too hard to live with! Delivery into the fwd zone with KING, MEMBREY and The STARMAN on the marking end of his 'apparent' talent cant be bad can it? The only thing is someone would have to come up with a more accessible nickname rather than the mouthful that NWM most certainly is!

who wouldn't want a brad hill on each wing.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but the majority of the media seem to be suggesting the same thing. If Andrew or Gibcus are there at pick 11 then we will draft them.

Maybe it’s not true, but they are getting their information from somewhere. However if Andrew is there at pick 11 then he would be very difficult to overlook.

I suspect the deal to trade-down would need to be compelling. I also suspect that GWS would be the club that would be desperate to trade-up if the right player was there. Draft picks seem less important to them because they have had, and continue to have, so many early picks.

Live trading on draft night could be very lively, depending on the order of the draft.

As much as I really like Gibcus, I will cry if we pass on Josh Ward.

Exactly what we need

I've got my fingers croseed the top 10 falls that way and Ward us still available

Another mock draft that has us drafting either Andrew or Gibcus.

If it’s wrong it clearly a case of Chinese Whispers.
