Terry Milera was a reasonable footballer for the Saints. Did we really have to use our first pick in the draft to employ his son?

Well he's related to Gavin Wanganeen too, as someone else here said hopefully he's more like Gavin than Terry but from what I've seen he looks more like Terry only bigger and better.

none of the playersI presume you are referring to will ever be midfielders at all, let alone the “ones you could hope for”. As mugatu once said.. genuinely feel like I’m taking crazy pills here
I reckon they’re a decent chance. At least they could be a half back/wing, tall Wing, Small-medium Forward at worst

I haven't bothered to look at any scouting highlights until after the draft, no point wasting time watching players already taken by our pick.

So I started with NWM, looks a very smooth player. Everyone questioning his lack of accumulation is a worry!

I watched Hobbs, meh, might be solid but not much stood out.

Then I saw Sinn... yikes! We passed on him?? Looks excellent and pretty much what we need. Port were talking up NWM all week, usually means they're after someone else haha.

That was enough for me. Hopefully NWM can get a lot more ball because he could be special. Terry could kick too, it's the numbers that needed improving. At pick 11, you should be averaging 20+ touches per match, easily. There have been a number of champions drafted at 11, Lenny says hi! NWM averaging 11 disposals @ 57% in the SANFL, not flash at all (albeit against mostly men). Sells a lot of candy, one would think that the opposition will be on to that pretty quickly.

It's a worry that we might have gone for another development player with question marks, when Sinn was there ready to go and ticked boxes. I hope it has nothing to do with the NGA guys we're planning to take. Anyway, fingers crossed for the lad!!

Nasiah is a boy who has reached AFL level because of his family name and Club connections.
As supporters of the St Kilda FC we have to accept this.
or he was chosen because his genetic advantages have manifested as enviable kinesthetic qualities which are useful for an AFL player. Against his own age group he showed poise and composure in intense situations. No doubt he will not find it as easy to do what he does against the AFL opponents, but he will adapt to the higher level and hopefully display the same grace and coolness under pressure that he did as an underage player.

Our midfield group/options now:

Roma/Ryder
Steele
Gresham
Jones
Crouch
Hannebery
Ross
Clark
Bytel
Byrnes
Windhager
Owens
Hill
Billings
D-Mac
Wangmil

Comfortably the deepest we’ve batted in there for a long time, with 15 options for the inside and/or outside, either for the now, or going forward. And that doesn’t include Sincs or Higgins, who have both shown they can play there in the past. Or Battle.

Really need Gresh or Clark to step up to that A-grade level and ideally for Bytel to become a cleaner, harder-running, higher-possession winning version of Dunstan.

Don’t forget Big Max Heath! The man who was selected before the GOAT Sharman…

Players who will feel like new recruits next year (barring injuries):

- Jade Gresham
- Ben Paton

- Max Heath
- Nasiah W-M
- Mitch Owens
- Marcus Windhager
- Tom Campbell
- Cooper Sharman (had a good crack 2021, but this’ll be his first proper season/ pre-season aye)

Our list, if healthy, will be flipping spicy 2022.

Anyone else I’m missing?

+ Peris/Kyle although I doubt they’d play.
+ potential other draftees (key defender perhaps?)

As he matures and gets older he'll be playing against those whom he showed great poise and composure against. Right now the league is full of the classes of 2012-2014. We got screwed for those years...and ended up with good but ultimately vanilla, beige players. In 7 years time, we will start to see the best of NWM...but until then we have the Clarks, Higgins, Coffields, to look forward to, before watching the rise of guys like King, Bytel, Byrne's etc hit their straps a year or so later. Until then we just enjoy the Sharman show 😉

so I know that pick >21 and both Owens and windhager were safe to be selected by us with our picks.
But why is pick 21 the magical number?

Theoretically, say if Owens went at pick 15, couldnt we have matched that bid, then if windhager didn’t get selected right up until our last pick we could still get him?

where does 21 come from? Is that just the minimum safe point to be able to get both of them?? E.g if they got bid on at 21 and 22 we could still get both?

Best kick in the draft. Can kick on both sides. Why are people in here so disappointed? Saints need outside class to compliment their inside mids. Saints fill a need and Cal rates him at that pick. What’s not to like?
95% of people on here carried on for years because Spook couldnt hit the side of a barn, and now we supposedly have obtained the best kick in a draft, and many still aren't happy. OMG

You would have been right any other time, but the AFL changed the rules. If they go in the first round, there’s no ability to match.

But hey, some of the AFLs darling teams were able to take full advantage of the system before they changed the rules.
