With a bigger footprint and encroachment on the Park Lands than our plan.....

On SM-A325F using BigFooty.com mobile app
We should use that in our arguement against the thebarton resistance

The resistance we met for the aquatic center and loss of parklands etc, then this situation without the song and dance.

To me that confirms what we already know about how genuine a lot of the opposition to our development is. It’s a mix of port supporters and anti “corporation” types more than it is about genuine well reasoned arguements

Some people are simply resistant to change .....change of any type

I remember the stoush about the Footy Park Light towers .....they were going to prevent babies from sleeping .....it's all emotional clap-trap

There’s that too

Also the media circus drumming it up knowing there’s going to be interest

I can’t believe there was a royal communion into lights at Footy Park

Except the protests mirror the protests that every Adelaide resident has about every single thing

Heck, people were against the Adelaide Oval redevelopment

There's no merit to any of it

Meet the requirements for open space, environmental, financial etc and that's all.

People in Adelaide didn’t want Adelaide Oval, didn’t see a need to update the RAH, thought the tram extensions to the Entertainment Centre and to the Botanic Gardens were a waste of time.

It is what people in Adelaide do, hate and baulk at a project then when it is done, the use it like no-one would believe.

Just get this thing done and dusted.

Very small minorities didn't want those things. I sure most wanted it. Some complaints warranted but most complaints were from protestors with no dog in the fight just like I suspect is happening at Thebarton. A world class facility at Thebarton would surely raise property value in the area and bring in other business.
I'm lukewarm on some of the parklands stuff though. I spent years travelling back and forth to Melbourne re work. That Docklands precinct is amazing to what it was 25 years ago. land value would be off the scale.

I suspect we are actually no worse than anywhere else.
Maybe we are slower at getting things done which gives more time for complaining.
Perth or WA is probably the exception

Time, because when it becomes political they're all looking at self interest
