email just came through

Wish this wasnt in it.

"The Club also remains committed to having a secondary oval, which will be smaller than initially planned until stage two of the development is complete in line with the South Road tunnels in 2031."

Was always obvious from us, but you know the nimbys will run with that and try and get that blocked too.

Does the email say that all relevant parties have signed off on the project or was it just a progress update?

If Mali is chipping in government monies, I'm confident this will proceed.

We have reached a significant signpost on the journey towards transforming our Club and building a new home base that delivers benefits now and for generations to come.

At tonight’s Club Champion event, Premier Peter Malinauskas announced his Government is committing $15m in funding towards our project at Thebarton Oval. It’s very welcome news and a major step forward, and I wanted to take this opportunity to provide you with an update.

After many months of discussions, I would like to thank the Premier and Minister Tom Koutsantonis for their solution-focussed approach to helping us find a long-term home that supports our teams, talent academies and people like you, our passionate members and fans. The needs of residents in the western suburbs have been front of mind as well.

As a Board, we have always been adamant the Club’s financial sustainability must never be jeopardised in trying to deliver such an ambitious project – the biggest undertaking in the Club’s history.

The Malinauskas Government will also invest a further $10m in works to improve open, green community space and amenities in and around the precinct.

Oh dear…just more spin

Imo, it's more than spin... & it will happen.

Olsen is too well connected for it not to happen & Mali knows it's a votes winner.

We really need a ground we can train on to simulate other grounds, particularly the MCG.
Oh, I agree. And I believe it'd be great. And it would provide a good alternative, and tbh, we'd only use it in the lead up to say games at the MCG/Optus/Marrara. So it'll be available to the public a lot of the time. Heck, can even had portable soccer posts like Adelaide United used to use at Thebby. Let the club stay. Would provide good will.

But my point was more the NIMBYs will run with 'they're still having an MCG sized ground, they're not listening to us, wahh, wahh, waahhhhhhhh'

This latest funding complements the $15m already secured at a Federal level, while there are extensive and ongoing discussions with other possible funding sources. We will also be investing our own funds, as well as taking on a debt position.
While tonight’s announcement is crucial, there is still work ahead of us and the local government approval process is ongoing. We will continue to work closely with the City of West Torrens and its Masterplan Advisory Group.
At times it may appear as though it has been slow going however, I can assure you progress is being made on a daily basis. The Board-established facility sub-committee has been meeting weekly, while the project team is to be commended for their results-orientated approach.
Aside from ongoing lease negotiations, funding discussions and construction cost estimations, we have moved into the detailed design phase, and look forward to presenting our masterplan to the council in the near future.

The Club also remains committed to having a secondary oval, which will be smaller than initially planned until stage two of the development is complete in line with the South Road tunnels in 2031.
Importantly, our facility will underpin a football-first focus, giving our elite players and coaches competitive advantages while reinforcing our standing as a destination club. It will provide our successful AFLW team with a much needed training and match day home.

Furthermore, you will have a place where you can come together and socialise with other like-minded Crows fans, immerse yourself in our history and watch our men’s and women’s players train and prepare for games.
The public will also have access to Thebarton Oval for the first time in decades. The precinct will drive about $980m in economic activity over the next two decades, as well as support more than 460 jobs annually over that period, so the overall benefits are far reaching.
I look forward to providing you with further progress reports in the weeks and months ahead. Our wish has always been to deliver high performance advantages for our players and coaches, and create a football home for which you can all be proud.

I don't think we'll be getting an MCG sized space prior. It's a possibility when the tunnel project has been completed though (I won't hold my breath)

Based on the email to members, $10M is dedicated to green spaces on areas for public use. Reading between the lines that is the King Park section of the development

Disregard my last response

“The Adelaide Football Club’s plans to build a new training, administration and community facility at Thebarton have received a significant boost with the Malinauskas Government providing the Crows with $15m in funding.

While the financial support is another major milestone, the Club is still required to undertake a second phase of community consultation and then an approval process, working closely with the City of West Torrens and its Masterplan Advisory Group.

Is it not feasible to increase the field size of Thebarton oval to MCG equivalent? Wikipedia has the MCG field size listed as 171 x 146m and Thebarton at 161m x 135m but looking on google earth there is ample room at each goal end to increase size, surely we can increase the width too?

Edit: looking at one of the pictures above the orientation of the oval seems to have changed anyway.

This quote pretty much confirms that’s the plan for mine

the changed orientation and land to be returned at that point lead that way too

They can but it looks like they're setting up Thebby Oval to be an Adelaide Oval clone (including orientation) - which is completely sensible.

Pix below shows how an MCG clone (including its weird east-west orientation) can be built when the extra land becomes available after the South Rd works are done.

Note the funny shape structure (think it was the community centre thing) in the earlier plans aren't in the revised plan. I think this shows they might be keeping the MCG size oval option open.

They can **** those raptor heads off. New logo please.

Wouldn't be too worried about the renders, current facility's renders had the old logo plastered on it.

Although, the feathers from that logo managed to make it into the final design before we changed the logo immediately upon opening and are still there, so don't do similar this time.

I understand your thoughts ....you can actually say that about most "primary" products

However there are taste preference trends, businesses look to tap into .....it became very sophisticated a few years ago, however a lot of major players have left the Cafe scene, for a variety of reasons ....as it turned out, impeccable timing

1. Ten Years ago Coffee Franchises were HOT & lead the market against amateurish independent Cafes

2. Independents ralied, improved their decor, and product ....Franchises didn't change their decor & became stale

3. Starbucks entered the market last, and after Franchise's were frowned upon

4. In Australia, the public prefer a sweeter coffee ....in America, it's more on a harder edge coffee ....Starbucks used American blended Coffee .....hence why it could never get a foothold in the market

5. It's simple, MELB offers a very competitive Cafe market ....competition = improved quaility of service / product, to gain an edge

You literally don’t know what you’re talking about.
