I agree, our fans don't care about the ressies as other clubs fans care about their team.

You might get a North Adelaide vs West Adelaide game and it's 1,500 North fans, 300 West fans, yet against the Crows it's probably 1,600 North fans, 100 Crows fans (generally the kids running around as their parents support North)

So it's plausible that we play at Thebby and we get like 250 fans, with 500 travelling fans. Probably end up with sub 1,000.

Just go country.

Could you please list or explain the other clubs that 'care' about their reserves side?

By 'care' I presume you mean rock up to watch them, this means from the first bounce not getting there at half time of the reserves match before the senior game starts later in the day.

It's been my experience the only people there for the first bounce of a reserves game are family and friends of the players.

Docklands 170 by 140 m
MCG 171x146 m

Not really that much different ... and ours will have to have an east-west orientation so it's almost an MCG clone.

Maybe they just don't want to make it sound like an MCG clone for some reason - maybe so the protestors can protest about us having an MCG sized oval :grinning:.
It will be unfenced won’t it?
There’s sure to be 3m of clear space either side se can occasionally paint the lines out to.

Or we just do it from the start

Will it be a NIMBY or curious crow tan being 1st to get the tape measures out when it’s done?

Ground dimensions are by the far the least important factor when it comes to travel/home ground advantage

However, I’m curious just small the second oval will be, if it ends up half an oval that’s a big fail.

Keeping the surface on the main oval in good condition is important in winter. If nothing else if the second oval can be used for some SANFL training, academy sessions, family days, clinics and potentially a second AFLW team training then it might be all we need.

Ground dimensions are only a small factor. What about kicking for goal towards the hill at AO vs kicking for goal towards the city at the MCG? It can take a long time for players to figure out how the wind swirls around in that cauldron.

More important is that we actually start playing (and winning) games at the MCG (rather than Ballarat or Launceston or Cairns or Alice Springs or Marvel).

That's not correct for Docklands, current dimensions are 160x129m which is a fair bit smaller. 15m narrower wings and 10m end to end

So we’ve given the council/nimbys the docklands fence-fence dimensions for what we want the painted area to be…

Where did you hear that? Every statement I've read says the AFLW team will play there and crickets about our SANFL side.

Likewise, have heard zilch about our SANFL side playing home games at Thebby just our AFLW side.

Also for those posts regarding the ground dimensions of the second oval:
MCG ground dimensions 160m x 141m
Docklands ground dimensions 159.5m x 128.8m

Isn’t it funny that the NIMBY’s lobbied the government to not support the development and the government turned around and basically said, ‘We need this, and we’ll fund it’.

Talk about their strategy backfiring spectacularly!

Somewhat of a long bow Bruce. Unless you genuinely think the govt made that decision largely based upon the NIMBY position. Which we all know is absurd, the govt made the call despite the NIMBYs view, not because of it.

We need to stand up the Sanfl. You let us play at our home ground like port. Or we walk to the vfl and negotiate home games with them.

John Olsen was on the SEN breakfast show this morning and asked if Thebarton would be a home ground for AFLW and SANFL games and he did reply that we’re one of maybe 3 AFLW clubs and the only SANFL club without a home ground and that this redevelopment would correct both issues.

What a stupid comment. Do you even know if AFC has even approached the SANFL about this? Even if they have you’re assuming it’s a no.
How about wanting a discussion with the matters that be and going from there.
Some people have their head and team up their collective arseholes on here at times.
