get the Delorian out crank it up to 88mph and go back...

This is pretty much the answer to all AFL problems at the moment.

Perhaps back to before Andy D, and Eddie Mc, were Ceo of AFL and president of Cwood.

If we can do that, and learn from the mistakes that happened, we would not be where we are now.

As for the site itself. It's a piece of shit that can't be polished. Better to throw it out and start again. Too much advertizing. The functionality is shit, even with 13k download speed. Too much AFL branded crap. Nothing interesting to read. No interesting interactive features. No good journalists contributing to it etc.

Yahoo's AFL page is far better than this crap.

The site might be a better design but how can you trust the information when they have on their home page "Leading Stats".... Behinds. Then list Goal kickers.

Any AFL site content provided from outside Victoria will allways be shite.

As has already been posted by others try RealFooty.com.au. At least they are trying to provide content supplied from real football people.

Indeed you are correct. Realfooty.com.au is a shining light of the very best sites out there.

Was making the point that even yahoo's afl page is better. And considering that the AFL's very own paid for page is crappier than pretty much most football sites dedicated to AFL, then that's how bad it is.

Just a question that has probably been answered way back in the past of this epic thread - can we access direct radio match coverage from the AFL site without going into Gameday Live? Reason being, SEN and AW seem to cut out from their own sites about 30 mins before kickoff, but Gameday doesn't seem to go live until the bounce itself. As a result I miss a whole lot of the prematch stuff.

I hate that they dont put up all the radio stations covering the game. For example tonight, SEN are covering the game but do not feature as one of the stations on game day live... annoying.

FWIW I don't bother with the site much anymore other than to listen to games when I'm at work. I've got a mac at home, have all sorts of problem using afl.com.

Gameday Live doesn't work again. Still showing no scores at all on its main page, even from last nights game. Joke! Why does the AFL persist with their chosen website designers????

New Bigpond design

The new Bigpond video panel is an absolutly brilliant move by Telstra that has a long string of great successes with their sites. Buttons that don't work, videos that dont load, videos that do load but buffer after 5 seconds of play, buttons that load the wrong video, loading times that make you think you're using a dial up modem. Absolutly fantastic. This is obviously the direction Telstra want to be heading in because they havn't deviated from it for quite some time... so your hat has to go off to them for accomplishing what they aim for.

Fantastic organisation. Fantastic creations. One extremely happy customer.

Always "making life easier." Thank you Telstra. Thank you. *bows*

Re: New Bigpond design

Bigpond are a ****ing mess. As soon as my foxtel contract is up I'm switching to Optus or Primus. I stupidly signed a 24 month contract combining foxtel, bigpond and home phone - big mistake.

Another brilliant decision by the creative team:

You just have to appreciate the artistic way in which this was done. The option boxes up the top, descriptions for them in the middle, and button to launch above it! But it doesn't end there, you click the button to launch it and it doesn't work. Where you actually click it for it to respond (not necessarily work) is in the bottom right hand corner of the video. I just love these fun games. Thanks Telstra!

I haven't dealt with Telstra for about 6 or 7 years (with Optus with home phone, mobiles and internet). They are a disgrace but used to ring us about every 3 or 4 weeks to try and get us back (I or my wife just continually tell them to take a hike) until we got on the do not ring register. Haven't heard from them in months and I'm loving it!

Their internet deals are bad beyond belief, their mobile deals can be bettered if you go to ANYONE else and their customer service is the worst I've ever encountered. I don't own shares in Optus and sometimes think their customer service is a little dodgy but the products we have through them are very, very good. Bloody hell, even our local calls cost less using them and they don't even own the network - whats going on there?!

Telstra are good at NOTHING (obviously including web site administration).

Having said all that there's plenty of muppets that like the 'rabbits in China' ad and go ahead and lock it in for 2 years before they realise they've just signed up to the worst deal ever.

Actually, you just made the point that they're damn good at advertising. Thinking back over the years I can think of a few good Telstra ads. Like McDonalds in the 90's, shit company but fantastic ads.

OK, they're good at advertising and misleading the public into thinking they've got products worth buying.

Re: New Bigpond design

and what about the new layout on the afl's homepage? it seems like they have been busy, a shame sandy hasn't come back to tell us all about it... less pics, more ads, and seemingly the oddest layout in the world when viewed on a mac.

There is a way, but I can't remember it.

It's definatly floating around this thread though.

That Commsec graph isn't a good way to tell whats been happening with the Telstra Shares. They should follow Telstras AFL.com lead (early rounds).

Here's a much better graph i suggest they use.

That's cool except you've got them holding at $50 a share. That's a good thing! :p

what other sites do people like?

espn.com

it has 10 times the information of the afl site, yet loads twice as fast and it's an American website.

Maybe Sandy has us on 'hold'. She'll get back to us by 2009.

someone posted the direct links to the wm streams but i have no idea where they are - gameday live has always worked for me even when i had to do several work arounds (i'm on a mac). you can get to the radio via http://www.afl.com.au/toyotagdl/index.htm which seems to be their stat-less version of gameday live in html - as with the flash version the links only become available 30mins prior to gametime.
