solomon would be no good. gets to excited sometimes and can't always control himself.

lloyd would be good but i personally feel that the captain should be in the middle of the ground instead of full foward where he is restricted.

welshy would be a bloody fanctastic captain, but hes just not ready at the momnet. lucus i think would be the best choice. but there are so many that would be fantastic:rama, jj, wellman, misiti

As hard as Scotty Lucas works, he still has the occasional tendency to take the wrong option by going himself and not giving the pill off to a team mate. I think the NEXT captain should be Lloyd or Jason Johnson, with Welsh the one after that.

Couldn't give it to Wellman or Misiti, they don't have long left. Next year will probably be Misiti's last, and I wouldn't be surprised if Wellman decides that when his new contract expires at the end of 2005 he will also retire.

We're lucky to have the likes of Lloyd, Lucas, JJ, all in the prime of their careers. A genuine pin up boy in Lloyd, and two hard workers and quintessential clubmen in Lucas and JJ.

And just a slight aside, as much as I'd love to see JJ get the captaincy after Hird, unless our midfield steps up and gives JJ the support he needs, we shouldn't give the captaincy to him. He's carried our midfield for the past couple of years and we shouldn't burden him any more.

Don`t see too many fullbacks running off him, probably because they know the damage he will inflict. I have a feeling that M.Lloyd can not win this solo argument you are having with yourself Pevers.
Do you notice these kick in strategies of other teams Pevers ? How is he supposed to pick up three/four loose players ? Who does he chase ? I have no problem with M.Lloyd smoking the occassional cigar at Full Forward.
He`ll be captain, Hird will have one more year of it then pass the baton to The Great One.

All your arguments are missing the point - I am not talking about zone kick ins or when he is triple teamed - I am talking about when he is man on man and once the marking contest is over - far too often if the ball is not near enough for his liking he doesnt work hard enough.

Once again I stress - this is not me saying he is useless - but rather a deficiency in his game that I believe currently should stop him from becoming the next captain.

Nothing wrong with Lloyd's game. Let his bloody opponent run down the ground if he wants. Quite happy to have Lloyd on his own in the forward line when the turnover in the midifeld happens.

therein lies the problem with your argument. Everyone should do the team thing. Give a good team an extra player due to not chasing - and they will make you pay. No one should be exempt from doing the 1%s else you bring a bad culture to the club.

Rubbish.

As good as your namesake is,we will never win another flag with a whole team of honest toilers who "put in" each week.

And Lloyd has done all of that and stills kicks goals.

When he doesn't you may have a complaint.

Look at some of the recent Forwards.

Lockett-never chased anybody, just flattened them if he could.
Ablett-Ditto
Dunstall-couldn't get out of a trot, let alone chase.
Longmire-slightly different but not much.
Lynch-hardly leaves the goal square.
Kernahan-strong mark weak tackler.

I could go on but I suspect you are just trying to raise an arguement that doesn't exist.

The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well.

Does that mean that they didn;t have faults in their games?? NO. Tall-poppy syndrome - give me a heckin'g break. Elitism is more to the point. Because they are good they don;t have to chase. Gee would love to see you as a coach.

And don;t add Dunstall ever to that list - he was the absolute king of 1%s - if Lloyd took a leap out of his book I would not have an argument to begin with - and as I said - Lloyd 2-3 years ago was in the Dunstall category - just seems he believes to be tough is to chest someone whereas if he chases and runs the players down and makes them pay - then they will fear him more.

One question though - whats wrong with picking out a fault of a player. Is Lloyd just too bloody good that he can;t be criticised.

BLINKERS!!!

I'd make a good coach actually but heart attack insurance would be too expensive.

Good players and stars should be able to do what they do best and leave the donkey work to those best suited to it.

Ot those Forwards mentioned you pick out Dunstall.Well he played in outstanding team which was near the top for a decade, which gave him plenty of opportunities to do the so called "one percenters".And they treated the salary as a guide rather than a maximum.

Agreed Lloyd's chesting of players is stupid but that's no reason to get stuck into a bloke who is a star and despite what you claimed you DID BAG him.Attitude poor and so on.Absolute rubbish.

At Essendon we like stars and have always had them, whatever their faults.

Lloyd deserves the chance to captain the club.He is outstanding at what he does. What more can you ask.
