Assessing the coaches:

* Pyke won't get sacked before the end of the year, but if he fails to make the 8 I could possibly see him being moved on. Adelaide don't seem a particularly patient club and their list pretty much has to strike now.
* Fagan is safe, there's a lot of good feeling around Brisbane now and so much of that is because of him. He's done a great job.
* Bolton is probably fine so as long as there's genuine improvement on 2018 and signs that the plan is taking hold. He's in trouble if he has another terrible season though.
* Buckley is safe after 2018
* Worsford seems in real trouble to me. If anyone gets sacked mid-season, I think it'll be him. Essendon are designed to strike now and the way they played on the weekend does not seem to me like they're buying into his strategy.
* Lyon we'll wait and see. If last week is the new norm, he's safe. If they regress to 2016-18 form, I can see him being moved on at the end of the season.
* Chris Scott is probably safe unless Geelong significantly collapse. Which doesn't seem too likely for this season at least.
* Dew has no expectations so he's fine for 2019. We'll see what happens in 2020 I guess.
* Cameron could be vulnerable if they miss the 8, but as long as they make it he is safe.
* Clarkson has the Hawthorn job for as long as he wants it
* Goodwin can probably afford a down year, but if Melbourne miss the 8 the pressure will be on in 2020.
* Brad Scott is in more trouble if their Round 1 performance is the new norm. He's been there for a long time and hasn't made the Grand Final in that 10 years. I don't see North Melbourne moving him on that quickly, but if things are looking dire mid-season the pressure could rise hard.
* Hinkley is similar to Lyon. Though having an extra year under contract compared to Lyon (and Port being poorer than Freo) buys him a bit more time. I also feel like Port are a better team than Freo, though we'll wait and see there.
* Hardwick is safe
* Richardson is basically dead man walking. The game against the Suns suggests he's learned nothing (unlike Lyon/Hinkley) and while injuries probably drags down his expectations, in practice he's off-contract at the end of the season. If they beat Essendon though it buys him some time.
* Longmire is an interesting one. I don't see him being sacked this season, but I wouldn't be too surprised if at the end of the season if Sydney has a poor one he says 'yeah I've had enough' and resigns.
* Simpson is safe
* Beveridge can still dine out on 2016 for as long as his list remains raw, but would probably want to see some improvement soon-ish.

The thing with Richo for me is that the players seem like they care. Saints put a lot of effort into their games, they just struggle to either dispose of it properly or kick points. The amount of inside 50s they generate - and last season as well - is pretty impressive. Coaches seem to be in trouble the most when players look to have given up.

Which is why Worsfold I think is gone. And why Buckley survived for as long as he did. Ultimately I think the playing group has a pretty big say in it, and with saints the players just seem like they like Richardson.

If Crows can't make the 8 this year with their list and draw well it will be the end of Don.
Yeah he probably has 1 less forgiving year than the rest of the Comp imo. Adelaide have sacked coaches very quickly in the past.

2 straight misses are a guaranteed sacking in Adelaide I reckon.

I think they'll make it though... So Worsfold gets my vote as I don't think they will...

The comments about ''if the players stop listening'' ring true. I sometimes wonder what is going on at the AFC as it seems one week they are listening and the next not

Very confusing for a supporter.

He could get even less than normal given the expectations and age of the list.

Given Jacobs, Tex and Betts looking like they COULD have retired last season, another 12 months with them is a worry.

Given I saw how the problem of relying on a sole Ruck last season and how that turned us from top 4 to missing the 8 the moment he had issues....

If Essendon put in many more performances like the last two I think Woosha will quite quickly be shown the door.
he should be shown the door now.

this is two seasons in a row we have started in poor shape

i dont know who we get but id like to get them soon and give them a season with the list.
we are not in an ideal position to be finishing low, with GWS holding our 1st pick.

Woosh is in deep trouble. If finals are out of reach by midyear I think that he will be gone.

Ross Lyon is a classic example of the 'if you owe a bank 100 million dollars and they've got a problem' paradox. Having been signed, resigned, backed through the sexual harassment scandal, an incredibly unpopular playing style and a consistent record of failure, he has Rosich and Alcock by the short and curlies because they have as much invested in his future as he is- a decision to sack him now would surely lead to them having to resign as well.

Clearly wont be sacked but my god Brad Scott has been kissed on the ****

10 year coach and never finished top 4 , How do you get a team thats so understanding and patient
They finished top 4 in 2014.
