Can anyone confirm the new 17s disqualification rule?

If they double up to help the 19s field a side is that still counted as a game towards their 6 max allowance?

Rule 4.2.1 b) Once a Junior player plays 5 or more home and away matches of senior football (Under-19, Reserves, Seniors Men/Women) they are ineligible to play again in any junior competition matches, including finals.

Mind boggling decision. How many 19s sides survive by having fill ins from the 17s?

Some kids love playing 2 games a weekend.

Denny Crane is this just a NFNL rule or AFLVIC
Either way, it is one of the dumbest rules that has been brought in
Would love to hear the rational behind it 🤦‍♂️

I suppose they are saying it’s fine for 17s to fill in but maybe they’ll have to change it up once they reach 5.

Then again not all want to double up nor have the ability to play up a level.

Is it really that unfair if a kid plays

14 under 17s games
6 under 19s games

Should they really be disqualified? I think as long as they play 17s on the same weekend the game doesn’t count towards the 5 total.

No idea mate, I just searched the NFNL web and found the bylaw.

I think that the NFNL is being ran by he who screams the loudest. Decisions like this can only be either angry parents whose team was beaten by a talented kid that had played higher, came back down and their little johnnie lost and is sad (hence why we have the moronic grading in 19s as well) or by medical opinions that say kids that play higher are dangerous to little johnnie.

What would be better was is if they came out and explained why they made their decision and how it was raised. Look they may have with Clubs and us plebs in the outer don't get told so these conversations and questions grow.

I posted comments on this rule introduction earlier this year when it was announced as it is going to have a huge impact on clubs but they just dont realise YET!!! Almost all junior clubs NEED younger kids to fill in for older age group teams at stages during the season otherwise teams would need to forfeit!
Play 5 or more games in a higher age group OR higher grade in the same age group and they cant go back to their rightful age group.
Origins of the rule - I spoke with a couple of West Preston guys that were sure that previous NFL managers did not like clubs fielding 2 under 19 sides and playing under 17 boys in the lower side for experience & development - Then playing in their own age group on Sunday.
This rule stops that disgraceful act of giving boys an opportunity to develop

Fortunately didn't seem to get quite as hot as predicted over the weekend, hopefully all the practice games were good hit outs.

I don't know the final score, however was told Heidelberg were down 15-34 at half time against Strathmore. Not that you can read too much into these games in terms of score lines.

Strathmore won fairly easily. Believe they Pascoe Vale this weekend which will be a very good hit out.

Interesting to watch the Banyule v Fitzroy practice match on the weekend, with the differing styles across the two leagues evident. Banyule with a slow and patient back half possession style, whilst Fitzroy (similar to a number of VAFA teams) a quicker pace from the back half. It was an arm wrestle in tricky conditions for the first half, then Fitzroy were able to penetrate more effectively with their style in the second half.

Would have been a good hit out. Looks like Fitzroy made a Prem B final, only to lose by 1 goal to the eventual premiers in Old Haileybury.

Both sides would have been happy to have a competitive hit out against a quality team. Fitzroy are still relatively young and built up across the back half of last year and were unlucky not to progress further into the finals, the elimination final was a cracking game. Banyule have some quality players across the park and will hopefully do well in Div 1.

Greensborough lose another one with Nathan Hrovat on the move to GVFL

Dropped into the showgrounds for a little look. Whit in for a LONG year.

19s lost by 15 goals.
2nds lost by 20 goals.
1st lost by 10 goals.

Talk is dropping the 19s due to needing players to field a 2nds side (at least 6 super rules lads 'running' around)

1st looked young. Had a bit of speed but when it came to it Eltham was all over them.

Tough to think about but best for them to get back down a dviision and rebuild. Apparently the 17s are elite but will not hang around to be belted one would think.

Mont, Bundoora and Heidelberg in first three rounds could see a negative %.

Yep, Whittlesea are in big trouble this year. 1.01 to be relegated

Why did they sack Harvey? Looks like a bad choice now
