I happen to be walking the hound through Warringal Park on Sat last week and watched the last 3 quarters of the HBerg v Bulls game. WOW! There doesnt seem to be much chatter on here about that result OR the way Hberg turned last years Grand Finalists into witches hats. The last quarter was a procession! It was as impressive football performance I have seen at local level! Its too hard to comment about how these teams would compete against other leagues but I would find it difficult to get my head around any local teams moving the ball with greater skill and accuracy than what I saw last week.

Went to watch East Keilor v Strathmore on the weekend, those that follow Edfl, where do you think the Heid, Monts, Bundoora and North sit in relation to the top teams in that league.
The game was very scrappy, maybe the windy conditions made it so, but for a 3rd v 5 it was a hard watch at times.
Just interested in others opinions.
Fair to say Chris Stewart still goes very well.
Can’t comment on EDFL, but I’ve watched 3 D1 games in the southern league this season and it’s nowhere close to NFNL D1 level …. not even remotely.
Was Dennis playing for E Keilor ? Can imagine he’d still be a very good player

Yeah mate Dennis was playing.
Rucking mainly with the occasional stint down forward.
Still an absolute bull.
From what I have read he is a chance for the comp medal.

COVID was a major shake up for sure. Depth around clubs has been tested big time this season, a lot of people travelling, working on Saturdays, or not wanting to play anymore in case work is affected.
Perfect storm… 3 years worth of Europe trips, Cost of living crisis, housing and rental shortages, Covid laziness, country clubs struggling offering big money…

This is a big one. Many young people had European trips booked in 2021 and even in 2022 who pushed them back to 2023 just to be safe with Covid. It is clearly affecting playing lists, but to be honest, you cannot blame them. Football comes second to being able to live your life.

Have sat back and heard various retired and older blokes absolutely slam players recently "not good enough" "wouldn't have happened in our day" blah blah... Even the outgoing Thomastown coach mentioned it. Incredibly harsh on the young men who spent nearly 3 years of their early adult lives locked up during COVID. The lack of empathy is pretty disappointing.

Couldn't agree more - If that's your mindset as a club you won't be an enticing prospect for young footballers.

This year is probably the most impacted by travel of any season we'll every experience for obvious reasons, no doubt it will settle down over the next couple of years.

I think the talk should be around the future of Bundoora
what happens next season?
they have too many players playing only for money
nothing in the seconds
they may get a few from the U19s
?..
Bunnies 19s forfeited tomorrow v Boro...
Choice of 2s or 3s i think

Their 3rds are 1 game (and %) outside of finals, 2nds dead last, must be running low on u19's as you'd expect they would want to keep pushing for them to play finals

Agreed.

It's the go to isn't it, always blame the mentality of the younger generations instead of trying to to work with them and understand them.

Round 15 and some massive games to help shape the double chance and top 4

Hurstbridge (5th) vs Heidelberg (1st) Massive game for the Bridges as they try to hang on to a top 5 spot and a first Division 1 finals series. Again last week they had their chances against Monty leading by one point at 3 quarter time but a 5 goal to 2 quarter by Mont meant a 21 point loss for the Bridges. Again Naylor and Jordan were terrific with 10 out of the 13 Hurstbridge goals. They get Moschetti back this week who has had a terrific season and been one of the recruits of the season
There opponent Heidelberg smashed Bundoora by 78 points in a dominant display, an 8-5-53 to 0-2-2 final quarter and again it was Gilmore, Tardio and Matt Smith leading the way. Last time they met, Hurstbridge led by 2 goals at 3 quarter time but Heidelberg prevailed keeping Hurstbridge scoreless in the last quarter while adding 3-3-21 to run out 9 point winners. This will be a great game but think Heidelberg will continue on their winning ways. Heidelberg by 14 points

Banyule (8th) vs Nth Heidelberg (3rd). The bears pulled off the upset last week in defeating Greensborough. Viv Blackmore-Moore continued his outstanding season to get BOG honours. For North Heidelberg they had a comfortable 10 goal victory over West Preston. They strengthen their side by adding Murphy and Tardio and will be too strong for Banyule. Nth Heidelberg by 37 points

Macleod (7th) vs Montmorency (2nd) Macleod got the job done up at the Showgrounds to keep their ever so slight finals aspirations alive however tomorrow starts a run of tough games. Hurley is a massive out for Macleod while opponents Mont get back premier ruckman Wale-Buxton. Mont too strong and tipping Fitzgerald to kick 8 tomorrow. Monty by 32 points

Greensborough (6th) vs Bundoora (4th) Two sides coming off a loss and looming to bounce back straight away. For the Boro it was a disappointing upset loss to Banyule which meant they slipped out of the top 5. They get Bowes back this week which is a good in while their opponents Bundoora lose Jetta, Collins and McNiece which are big outs for the Bulls. Tipping Boro at home to bounce back and cause the upset. Greensborough by 9 points

West Preston (9th) vs Whittlesea (10th) Two sides that have had disappointing season face off at J.E Moore park. For the Roosters they will look to 2024 and rebounding back up the ladder but when you have the class of Saad and Dreher in your side then that return to the top half can happen quickly. For the Eagles, it’s back to division 2 to re-group and start again. They do get young gun Watson back from VFL duties and the Eagles do have a good record down at JE Moore Park, can they break through for their first win. They will be competitive for a half but that win will still allude them. West Preston by 39 points.

Enjoy the footy

Last year's div 2 under 19s had a top 5 despite there only being 6 teams in the competition.
Give them a break, they have all grown up getting participation ribbons.
