Been a fair few 23 year olds come out of AFL and struggle with local footy. The main one is finding your own footy on smaller / tighter grounds. Hope I'm wrong for Morang sake, but feel he will fall into this category.
He kicked 5 goals in a game against a Brisbane side that has played in the past 2 grand finals and you reckon he’ll struggle at this level ?

South get the pick up of the year and people just looking to find theoretical negatives lol.
With the price tag comes pressure and the pressure to play well and lead the side too. I like he's gone to south morang and hasn't picked a top 3 side and got an easy flag, I hope he goes well for the club

$2000 a game better make finals and he kicks 4-5 goals a game , but still huge a chance for mid season AFL Draft 🤜🤛😚🤫
He has given a huge boost for south to stay up and in turn remain a D1 club. That’s worth plenty because once relegated it’s no easy task to get back.

Cumberland signing is nothing but positive, for SM and for a senior league in the NFNL that is struggling to generate any excitement.

Averaged 8 touches a game in VFL throughout 2024. That is pretty average in a comp that is compromised.
Those 5 goals was back in 2022 when Richmond were a good team that was still playing finals. Once their stars retired, missed through injuries and form dropped, he didnt get a kick. It probably showed he wasn't quite up to that level.

North Heidelberg's past players group announced a big event, North Heidelberg All-Stars vs Diamond Valley Legends for the Beyond Blue Cup!
It will be a fundraising and awareness day for Beyond Blue.
I'm sure a few past players on here would be interested in playing.
There will be raffles, 100m Sprints (heats & final held on the day), and a $1,000 donation to the winning football players club that takes out the final.

You do realise the gap between AFL/VFL and local footy?
Yes he was just an ok player at AFL Level and will be a very good player in This competition. If he plays permanent forward I can’t see why I can’t kick 60+.

Look at Sam Lloyd. He was just a solid AFL player and was very very good at this level.

Sam Lloyd 100 times better than Cumberland.
Plus you were saying Majak was no good and wouldnt dominate when he started at Nth.

People talk about the gap but honestly I think it takes a certain type of player to drop down to local footy, particularly this league, and have an impact. Cumberland is built perfectly for the NFL and will win some games off his own boot IMO, but for every AFL listed player that comes into this competition and does well there's been plenty of flops. Looking at Heidelberg they have had their fair share of good and bad but you would have to say their strike rate is probably better than most. Some recent(ish) players that come to mind:

Good:
  • Justin Murphy
  • Paul Bower
  • Jess Sinclair
  • Josh Houlihan
  • Anthony Franchina
  • Brayden Sier
  • Dan Connors
  • Marcus Marigliani
  • Ben Cosgriff

Bad:
  • James Magner
  • Brad Miller
  • Caleb Tiller
  • Sam Grimley
  • Daniel Archer

Connors & Bower were unbelievable talents.
