More clubs than Joe Hasham. May as well try somewhere different
Adding size and quality into an already very impressive Lower side with Flynn and Cloke, if the rumours are true, there’s your 2022 flag favourite… any news at Eltham and Banyule with comings and going’s? Usually there is already some news come mid to late September with resignings to key players, but haven’t heard much.

Anyone able to post the leaders top 25 players for season 2021?
My thoughts for top 10 in no particular order - Blackmoore-Moore, Macaffer, Keys, Langford, Blake, Turner, Barden, Martin, Weatherald, Baddely-Kelly

25. Michael Tang (Thomastown)

Cut down after just eight games when he was atop the goalkicking charts with 20 majors. Started the season in Thomastown’s midfield but was pushed forward with great success with seven majors against Fitzroy Stars in Round 3. Booted four goals in each of his last three matches, including when he injured his knee against Diamond Creek.

24. Josh Marchbank (Diamond Creek)

One of the star ruckmen in the competition, Marchbank was again outstanding in 2021. The Creekers big man was named in the club’s best in seven of the first eight games of the season, including a best-afield performance against St Mary’s.

23. Luke Joyce (Banyule)

Finished joint second on the league goalkicking charts with 28 majors, only one goal behind teammate Jack Langford and Ryan Pingree. Kicked a season-high seven goals against Panton Hill and finished the campaign with six against Eltham. Amazingly, the Bears had three forwards in the top five goalkickers.

22. Nick Dean (St Mary’s)

The Burras’ reigning best-and-fairest picked up where he left off from 2019. Earnt six mentions in the best in 10 games and showcased his ability to his the scoreboard from midfield with 15 goals. Can he go back-to-back as St Mary’s club champion?

21. Joel Carter (Thomastown)

The young ruckman shifted from Division 2 rival Epping and took his game to a new level, helping Thomastown finish third. Was best-afield in the season-defining win over Eltham in Round 11, one of seven mentions in the Bears’ best in 12 appearances.

20. Sage Dicello (Epping)

An impressively consistent season from the Pingers forward. Dicello was held off the scoresheet just once in 12 appearances and kicked at least two goals in seven with a season-high of four against St Mary’s and Diamond Creek. Was in Epping’s best in the finals six matches.

19. David Boxer (Fitzroy Stars)

Arrived from Barossa Light and Gawler league club Freeling and produced an outstanding debut season at the Stars and has already re-signed for 2022. Boxer was named in the Stars’ best in seven of 11 appearances, including first choice three times.

18. Adrian Natoli (Thomastown)

The classy wingman was a key player in Thomastown’s rise up the Division 2 ladder in 2021. Natoli was named in the Bears’ best in seven of 12 matches – equal most at the club – and saved his best for the big stage, earning five of those mentions against fellow top-five teams.

17. Matt Lewis (Diamond Creek)

Missed a couple of games early in the season but returned in superb form. Was excellent off half-back, intercepting the ball and launching the Creekers into attack. Lewis was named in the best in seven of eight games, including best-on-ground performances against Thomastown and Watsonia.

16. Lachie Potter (Watsonia)

Represented Vic Metro in 2019 but returned to local footy this season and proved one of the recruits of the year. Potter scored seven mentions in the best in 11 appearances for the Saints, showcasing his line-breaking ability and classy disposal.

15. Tom Blake (Lower Plenty)

Will challenge incumbent Tim Martin for first ruck in the Team of the Year after a strong season. Blake stepped up as Lower’s top big man in 2019 when Patrick Flynn was injured and hasn’t looked back. He was named in the Bears’ best in eight of 11 appearances, including a pair of best-afield performances against Fitzroy Stars and Thomastown.

14. Ben Montanaro (Eltham)

A career season for the Panthers midfielder. Montanaro was running fourth in the Coaches’ MVP voting when it was taken behind closed doors after Round 10, largely thanks to a pair of best-on-ground performances against Diamond Creek and Watsonia. Finished with six mentions in the best in 12 matches.

13. Tim Martin (Banyule)

The pre-eminent ruckman in Division 2 had a few challengers in 2021 but is still favourite to defend his crown as first ruck in the Team of the Year. Remains a key part of the Bears’ midfield, giving his players first use on a regular basis. Earnt seven consecutive mentions in the best between rounds 3 and 12, including a pair of best-on-ground performances against Watsonia and Epping.

12. Sam Parks (Panton Hill)

Arguably the midfielder’s best season in his five years as a Redback. Parks was Panton Hill’s dominant midfielder with nine mentions in the best in 12 games – joint most in the competition. The young ball-winner showcased his class with best-on performances against Banyule, St Mary’s and Watsonia.

11. Tane Cotter (St Mary’s)

A breakout campaign for the Burras forward, who was still playing predominantly under-19s in 2019. Cotter booted 28 majors – joint third in the competition – in 11 appearances. He wasn’t held goalless once this season and had at least two goals in eight matches with a season-high five in the last-start win over Fitzroy Stars.

10. Ryan Pingree (Diamond Creek)

A magnificent season that saw him win the league goalkicking for the first time with 29 majors – equal with Banyule’s Jack Langford. Was held off the scoresheet twice, kicked a season-high six and another bag of five against Epping and finished the campaign with a second straight five-goal display against Lower Plenty. Needed just three goals to beat his previous best of 31 from 2018.

9. Anton Woods (Eltham)

Hard to think of Woods ever playing a bad game, let alone having a quiet season. The star midfielder was again in the thick of the action for Eltham, named in the Panthers’ best in eight of 12 games. He saved his best for the big stage, rated Eltham’s best in both clashes against minor premier Banyule.

8. Daniel Bramich (Thomastown)

A premiership captain at North Heidelberg, Bramich stepped back to Division 2 this season and displayed all his class and experience in Thomastown’s defence. Produced best-on-ground performances against Diamond Creek and Lower Plenty and was influential in almost every game. Defenders can be hard to judge but would be a strong tip for Team of the Year honours.

7. Josh Turner (Lower Plenty)

Hard to argue the coaches aren’t the best judge of players and Turner was No.1 in the Coaches’ MVP voting when it was taken behind closed doors at Round 10. When he was hot, he was hot. Named in Lower’s best six times and four of them were best-on-ground performances. One of three Bears in contention for the league medal on Wednesday night but can they share the votes?

6. Jack Langford (Banyule)

A remarkable story. The 2019 Team of the Year centre half-back winning the 2021 league goalkicking award – equal with Ryan Pingree on 29 goals – and likely being named the Team of the Year full forward. Langford’s versatility is an invaluable asset to Banyule. He booted eight in a demolition of St Mary’s in Round 3 and kicked six in the loss to Lower Plenty, only being held goalless once.

5. Darcy Barden (Lower Plenty)

Look up the term evergreen and you might find a picture of Barden. The Lower Plenty co-captain ages like a fine wine and was again a dominant force as the Bears looked to challenge for a premiership and immediate return to Division 1. Sadly, the season was called off, but Barden certainly made his mark with three best-on-ground performances that had him third in the Coaches’ MVP voting before it was taken behind closed doors.

4. Brent Macaffer (Eltham)

The Panthers co-captain had a drama-filled season. Copped a red card that was later revoked before a three-match ban ended his season, making him ineligible to defend his Division 2 league best-and-fairest medal. However, there were few better than Macaffer, named in Eltham’s best in eight of nine games and second in the Coaches MVP voting after Round 10. His leadership and experience ensures the Panthers will remain premierships contenders for years to come.

3. Jhye Baddeley-Kelly (Epping)

Despite Epping’s struggles on-field, Baddeley-Kelly shone in his debut season with the Pingers. Having crossed from North Heidelberg, the tough midfielder was named in Epping’s best nine times in 10 appearances – a league high – including a pair of BOGs. Such was his form, Coburg rewarded him with a late-season call-up and VFL debut against Northern Bullants.

2. Reuben Blackmore-Moore (Banyule)

A stellar season from the young midfielder has him firmly in league medal contention, looking to back up teammate Riley Loton’s win in 2019. Was running fifth in the Coaches’ MVP voting when it was taken behind closed doors after Round 10 but finished with a bang, earning two best-on-grounds in the final three rounds. Also capable of hitting the scoreboard from midfield with 10 majors.

1. Tom Keys (Lower Plenty)

A danger in midfield or up forward, Keys was a match-winner no matter where he played in 2019. Booted 25 goals, equal fifth most in the competition, with a season-high six majors against Watsonia. Was named in the Bears’ best nine times in 12 games – most in the competition – and is a certainty for Team of the Year honours. Can Josh Turner, Darcy Barden and he all contend for the league medal?

Comp Medal

1- Ruben Blackmoore-Moore (best player in the best team and don’t see many votes being stolen off him
2- Brent Macaffer (missing 3 games and basically 4 being red carded will hurt him)
3- Any of the Lower boys Keys/Barden/Turner/Blake (I feel they will all steal to many votes from each other to win, but will all poll very well)

Anything truth the Macaffer won’t be going around in 2022? A few other retirement whispers from Panther as well.

Can’t say the Macaffer was from an reliable source so don’t treat it as gospel.
Heard the same re Macaffer but I guess he is 35? About time panther played their kids

Have also heard this recently. Would be some very happy opposition sides if this was the case. Even at 33/34 still probably the best player in Div 2.
Also heard the full back not going on and possibly a couple of there other top line players considering options.
Hopefully for Eltham’s sake they have some replacements lined up.

Elsewhere, looks like Patty Flynn back to Lower mail was incorrect
