NFNL Div 2 discussion 2023

Some very funny rumours, love BigFooty and how they appear.

Panthers comfortable bank balance, to the point a few weeks ago held a huge mental health function on a match day where all money went to charity. No way they would be capable of something like that if they were searching for pennies.
No one is claiming they don’t have money. Salary cap is the issue.

Now im the first one to have a dig at the NFNL, but surely you cannot put this on them, If Gaz has clipped a mouthy Creek supporter in the rooms, its hardly the Club or the Leagues fault.
“Mouthy Diamo supporter”! Who would’ve thought🤦. I actually remember a former Diamo coach who was notorious for confronting his own players in social rooms after games, as well as the odd scuffle with opposing players. Certainly had a reputation!

haha did he play at Heid by chance?

Agree not a problem with paying players it’s being able to pay them within the rules of the salary cap
Let’s face it, if there’s a club legitimately operating under the “Salary Cap”, I like most including probably the league to honest, would find it hard to believe.

My personal view is get rid of Salary Cap and use the points on a sliding scale to manage parity and competitiveness across the clubs.

Probably an example would be to allow struggling clubs like your obvious ones the opportunity of extra points to build a list and those clubs that have greater resources, be it money or large junior recruitment grounds, less points.

There may be other examples but I don’t think a one size fits all for a points cap is the way.

You think lower is paying over 88k this year?

Wasn’t there also an issue a few years back with former Eltham (& AFL), player Brent McCaffer? Who was the opposition on that occasion?

Is this the game where McCaffer got a card for abusing an umpire that then got upgraded to a red (but retracted post game)? Only time I can remember anything between McCaffer and DC. From the odd game I've seen in the past, the DC U19's can get a bit rowdy at home but nothing too extreme.

I have watched the first quarter from the SM v DC game and can see Moorcroft having an interaction with one spectator. One can only assume this escalated post game?

Any special increases to the cap for struggling clubs should only be temporary with a condition that they work to align with a junior club.

yep, some bloke was mouthing off to him from his first touch, he definitely got his attention!!:D

Looks like fact.

Players signing stat decs saying they won’t be paid for 4 rounds of football. What a mess.

does that mean they dont get paid or to be used to show anyone looking - 'hey, look, we didnt pay them, its in writing'?

In other words, 'look mate, ill come around for a drink and buy a beer from you for $500'.....

It’s absolute BS the league has allowed this.

Oh these players were on money now magically playing for zero…

Eltham cooked it having a playing coach. How much of his coaching wage is included in the cap? 50%? if so it’s a lot of your cap gone for little on field return.

yeah the salary cap is the biggest load of crap - it does keep most teams within a range in different divisions but if you want to break it, its easy to do.

run the risk of someone spilling the beans if relationships sour but rarely happens
