Give it a spell

Oldies not on Facebook are unlikely to be using youtube!

The coverage of Div 3 GF last week on Facebook was top shelf!

Grand final Eltham vs Diamond Creek
Diamond Creek lead 2-1 on the three games they have played this year
Leading goalkickers
Eltham
J McCormick - 43
D Owen - 37
T Bongetti - 23
4 other players have kicked 10+ goals in 2023
Diamond Creek
R Pingree - 30
J Booth - 28
T Barnes - 25
9 other players have kicked 10+ goals in 2023

Times in best
Eltham
J Donaldson - 11
D Owen & D Ayres - 10
Diamond Creek
N Barro - 12
M Tobin - 11
J Booth & T Barnes - 10

Eltham have 9 players that have played 18 or more games out of 20 played in 2023
Diamond Creek have 12 players that have played 18 or more games out of 20 played in 2023

The best two sides face off and it’s going to be a great game. The defensive unit of Diamond Creek has been fantastic for the whole year and playing at Coventry oval has them well suited for PCO. Can they limit McCormick, Owen and Bongetti? Who for Eltham might jump up and kick 3 or 4 goals. Can Goodwin/Maley push forward and stretch the Creek defenders to play more 1 on 1 and not zone off as much.

For Diamond Creek, they have a multi prong forward line with 12 players kicking 10+ goals during the season, does this make they more unpredictable going forward.

Players like Donaldson for Eltham and Marshall for Creek have experienced grand finals and does their experience help calm nerves on the day.

I had both of these teams ranked 1 and 2 pre-season, I had Eltham as premiers and I think they will get the job done tomorrow.

Eltham by 14 points
BOG: Maley

Reserves: Eltham by 28 points

Good luck to both teams in what shapes as a fantastic grand final

Only 3 umps for Div 2 GF's.
4 for Div 1 games.
I thought they were going with 4 in Div 2 also, will be interesting to see how it goes with 4

Hey guys just wanna thank everyone for the past 5 years but I’ll be moving onto the div 1 board as of next year. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours
Congratulations OTP, too good today and played the ground and conditions much smarter than Diamo.

Couldn’t believe how Diamo kept trying to attack from outer side of ground in first qtr and when Eltham came out in second and showed them how, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Enjoy the celebrations👏🤙

Tremendous crowd there today , lovely weather but the wind bought the standard down I thought.
The umpiring was really poor too unfortunately.
Well done to Eltham for taking their chances, Maley was fantastic up forward and Diamo were more and more frustrated and undisciplined as the game went on.
Only putting one goal on the board with the gale by qtr time meant they were going to be up against it to kick a winning score

I don’t think the wind brought the standard down, I just think Diamo played dumb footy in the first qtr which eventually cost them. The wind was obviously favouring the city end but pushing towards the outer side and Diamo via there own design kept getting caught out there and seemed unwilling to square it up to create better opportunities.

We’ve played finals footy at PCO for umpteen years and if the clubs refuse to do their homework or try to attack down the defensive side then life will always be difficult.

Eltham far too good and played the conditions smarter!

I think Eltham defended the conditions tremendously rather than Diamo playing dumb footy. Watch the first quarter again, Eltham took so much time off the clock. Smart footy

I dunno, seemed a lot of unforced errors and turnovers to me, and don’t think I’ve seen the football kicked out on the full as much as I did today.
I also noticed Eltham ran down the clock when they were kicking into the breeze. They seemed to have cooler heads and more experience in finals heat than Diamo

Clearly it was an instruction from Eltham coaching staff to take as much time off the clock as possible in that first quarter to minimise scoreboard damage. First quarter is what won them the game, congratulations to Eltham. I have my concerns for their division one chances but some smart recruiting could change all of that

Eltham had the best squad this year and deserve to go up, creek not good enough on PCO and couldn't handle the heat eltham produced both finals. St Mary's even gave it to them for longer than everyone expected

The reserves comp breathed a sigh of relief seeing the back of Eltham.

Big off season for Panther. A couple of retirees I’d imagine and more VFL time for their young guns they’ll need to go pretty hard at some A grade recruits.

Who steps up to match the Creekers?
