Just to clarify Div 1 in EDFL is Div 2. Getting doesn’t mean they have signed them. Don’t believe the calibre of these so called “good” players are going to come near the level of talent that is going to walk out the door!
div 2 EDFL is a good standard and the players coming across will more than hold their own in div 2 NFNL 5 quality players are better than one star player .

Plenty of talk about “these players”.

Who are they?
campbell (hbf) wright (r/chf) hollow (hbf/bp) Keenan (CHB) evens (w/m) all senior players and 3 to 4 fringe fringe first players not given the opportunity at senior level at westy and possible the two other younger hollow brothers one senior and one u18

Good to hear, hope they get the right lads and be a little more competitive than recent years. The decision to come up when Lalor nearly folded was a brave one that has not worked. The more competitive teams the better.

Is it silly to say that there are simply too many teams in a reasonably small geographic area of the northern suburbs to sustain good talent (most within 10-15km of each other). I suspect the other comps would be in the same boat too. The talent pool is spread too thin and what clubs are prepared to pay very ordinary players to try and be competitive is dangerous and a concern - in all divisions.

I’ve heard some clubs say that the salary cap reset due to Covid was the best thing that could have happened and has helped some clubs improve their balance sheet and stabilise their finances which were dire.

The problem is that the vicious cycle then starts again….with clubs then desperate for success and start paying silly money and spending beyond their means.

Takes one club to cheat and it just spreads.

But Yes there is probably too many clubs.

Its a fair point, but unfortunately the alternative is for some clubs to fold, which no one wants to see.

Seems like Diamond Creek and PH leading the way recruitment wise form what i read on here.

I would have thought Thomastown, Eltham and St.marys would have gone a bit harder recruiting wise as they should really be pushing for a flag or finals. Still plenty of time but clubs would be training soon i would think?

St Mary’s and Eltham never recruit that much it seems.

After watching last year Eltham really need a key forward , ruck and probably a big bodied mid. Bongetti if playing probably fills the forward role

Not all clubs feel the need to announce their recruits, particularly prior to any clearances being granted

How many have Diamo recruited? PH obviously needs to go harder then the teams mentioned. So im not sure whats surprising.

Theres a gap between Thomastown and the top teams, and i would have thought they would have wanted to fill that (have recruited some)

Theres a gap between Eltham and winning the GF, i would have thought they would have wanted to fill that (have recruited some)

Theres a gap between St.Marys making finals, i would have thought they would have wanted to fill that (have recruited none)

Just my thoughts
