West had a chance to have a presence at the magnificent Ford Park from which an Auskick and junior program could have been created. As I understand it ultimately they turned to option down .
Already a junior club there (Ivanhoe Juniors) on north oval and YJFL on south oval.

Nth had some sort of partnership with West Ivanhoe Juniors I believe and they are based off Green street.

West had a joint team in the 19's with Banyule two years back and both Banyule and Heidelberg now have 2 x 19's. Looks like enough kids in the area, just need to get them.

Parkside are now in Premier C , have three senior men’s and 2 seniors women sides, 12 junior sides( boys and girls) I think they made the right call going back to VAFA, Lalor should do it
Yeah why? Are players going to suddenly appear out of nowhere for Lalor because they play in the VAFA??

Not sure but might apply

While you raise the Parkside example, this is probably the gold standard for a club identifying what they needed to do and what direction they needed to head in for their betterment and long term existence.

Lalor would need to be an extremely resilient club, with a very strong and driven committee to head off to the VAFA and start in the 6th division. Travel would also be a defining factor with only La Trobe (Bundoora) and North Brunswick north of the yarra.

I watched Ivanhoe and Parade very closely last year to see how they went after leaving the VAFA, both clubs imo exceeded expectations and would be delighted with the outcome. I'm also keeping a close eye on Bulleen-Templestowe who have left for the EFL, I'm not sure it's the right move for them but I wish them well.

Others on this board will have a greater understanding of Lalor than I, but changing leagues just because it worked for someone else isn't always the right solution.

Just a ridiculous suggestion with zero merit and zero similarities to Parkside.

Parkside were originally a VAFA club.

Lalor have never been, and never will be a VAFA club.

There is no local club in Melbourne, especially in the Northern parts of Melbourne, that is looking at the VAFA as an attractive option.

If Lalor moved to the VAFA, this is what would have to change:

  • No longer able to attract players with match payments
  • No longer able to run a bar during the match
  • They would need to provide boundary and goal umpires for all senior matches
  • They would need to provide boundary, goal AND field umpires for all reserves matches
  • In 2025 they would be required to travel to Burwood, Albert Park (twice) Richmond, Hawthorn, Box Hill (twice) and Chadstone. North Brunswick and LaTrobe are the only games nearby

Those are the facts. The opinion is that they would receive next to zero interest / support from the VAFA headquarters.

Sorry, but there is virtually no reason whatsoever for them to move to the VAFA. Parkside is a pseudo Old Boys club now. A combination of a well-run committee and the ability to attract kids from nearby private schools has seen them flourish. In my humble view, Lalor did a sterling job at hosting the finals. They look to have a dedicated and hard-working committee. That's where the similarities end i reckon. They just don't have the attraction of the private schools that Parkside does.

add to that they would be playing in front of very small crowds so not even decent canteen sale to help boost $

Way above my pay grade as a washed up, social club member and beer drinking supporter .... but I'll pass on the request to the current committee and see what they think. Unlikely 😝
Hey mate, question. Has any other club put in a formal request for extra points? They have the right to do so.. Interested in hearing responses!!

Last year Ressa and Lalor competed with 50 points, I assume they have that again by the sounds of things, but a committee person I spoke to was not aware of anything official when I saw him over the weekend

West Heidelberg applied for extra points last year, but were declined I'm told by a players dad from there. Not sure of any reasoning given.

Their ground is fantastic for hosting finals. Great coffee, great canteen, great viewing. Only downside is the parking situation in the area, but then again Cramer Street has the same issue

my mail is that they applied for 2024 and again for the 2025 season rejected both times as they were deemed competitive

Say what you like about the points being an equaliser but from I can see lalor and ressa played most games at around 38 - 39 points last season with the highest I can find being 43 each against each other the second time around.
The only game I can find where anyone mixed out on points was Parade against ressa .
With ressa bringing in some hight points talent that will go up this year but may not have the effect that some are fearing.
Lalor hasn't brought in any real big points players (yet) so a cap of 50 points maybe pointless(🤣).

Reservoir have also lost Cuppens who was 5 points and Hadrian Prest who was 4 points until he stopped playing during the season. On top of the rest of their players with points going down a point for 2025 that is a big chunk to play with even at 46 points.

Curiosity got the better of me, this is what i found for HW, Reservoir and Lalor the 2024 season. For some reason a number of HW games the players have been adjusted to their 2025 points. All of Reservoir and Lalors points are still assigned as their 2024 allocation.
