Playing every team twice would be 20 games over 22 rounds which is not going to happen.Playing all teams twice is the reason.
Prem C in the VAFA had 11 teams in 2022. It was a disaster. Especially when 2 teams were gone from Round 6. Makes for a long arduous season.Playing every team twice would be 20 games over 22 rounds which is not going to happen.
I would think 16 games over 18 rounds is basically guaranteed.Season felt ample long enough with 16 games imo. Why make it 18? The top 4 was basically set a long way out besides the fight for 4th.
I just don’t see the need for 18 especially in the environment of clubs at all levels struggling for reserves.
VAFA have released their structure for 2024, with Division 4 being abolished. They are definitely not going to fight to keep Old Parade and Ivanhoe. The next step in the process regarding Ivanhoe and the OPs is for it to be ratified by AFL Victoria. The VAFA still have the right of refusal, however with this much water under the bridge now, I’d be surprised if they did.
Once that is done, the NFNL can start the task of fixturing.
A top 6 would not be a bad idea if that were the case, in a draw that may be pretty unequal opening up an additional finals spot to counteract that may be beneficial if its still the same amount of finals games played?I would think 16 games over 18 rounds is basically guaranteed.
Finals would be a top 5, with an outside chance of a top 6. They both require 6 games over 4 weeks.
With Div 3 finals requiring an extra week of finals, they would probably want to start Div 3 a week before Div 1 and Div 2 so they can keep the grand finals on different weekends.
How does a top 6 work?A top 6 would not be a bad idea if that were the case, in a draw that may be pretty unequal opening up an additional finals spot to counteract that may be beneficial if its still the same amount of finals games played?
Ask HornbergerHow does a top 6 work?
Looks good, I don’t mind that at all! NFNL want all GF different days so a 16 game comp with a top 6 would be goodWk 1 - Elimination Finals - (EF1) 3 v 6 and (EF2) 4 v 5.
Wk 2 - Semi Finals - (2SF) 1 v 2 and (1SF) winner EF1 v EF2
Wk 3 - Preliminary Final - loser 2SF v winner 1SF
Wk 4 - Grand Final
I can only see the first sentence but sounds like great news.

I’m no fixturing expert..Yep, forgot there was 11 sides. Carry on.
Fixed whoopsPoor Kilmore having to double down each week and H. West have been kicked out . It will be interesting to see how NFNL balance the draw there will be winners and loosers but such is life. 11 teams means you can't have a perfect draw. But so long as the expected strong teams don't get lalor/reservoir twice while the mid range miss out it could work out
Banyule have been a good club well run and good juniors. Banyule got to a stage where they were losing guys to Macleod HeidelbergWhile it's always easy to bash the league, you have to sit back and admit the league has done a brilliant job at slowly aquiring clubs in the past decade which has been mutually succesful for both clubs and league.
Each club had it's own predicament but from afar this is how it's paned out in hindsight.
Banyule - Struggled to retain it's juniors in the VAFA. Clearly the most succesful side since coming across. It's extremely impressive with what they have done in such a short time. Looks like they will be settled in D1 for the medium term now.
Kilmore - Struggled in the RDFL winning only a handful of games in it's last 5 years in the league. The NFL nabbed them and the juniors across and it's been a sustained success. The club seems happy with the move and has a solid group of kids coming through.
Old Eltham - From all reports they were really struggling for numbers in the VAFA and their viability appeared shaky at times in it's old league. Since coming across they've steadily improved and are now contending in D3.
Kinglake - Have been a welcome addition in their first year and had a very strong H&A season. Provides the NFL with some character and uniqueness with the away trips up the hill. AFLOE has been an absolute mess in the past 24 months and I'm sure the Lakers are enjoying the stablity of NFL football.
Ivanhoe and Old Parade will be great additions and are arguably in a better position than some of the above listed clubs when they first moved over.
More importantly the foundations of 3 divisions of football are now set in stone with 11 sides. The league has it's future sorted in the event a side or two sadly falls over, they have the numbers to cover it.
Compare that to the WRFL who have continually lost sides and are now in a precarious position with Div 3 and it's struggling clubs.

Love this, as teams who would finish 5th or 6th would feel hard done by maybe if it was a top 4 with a lop sided fixter versing the 'harder' teams twice apposed to getting lalor and rezza twice. No brainer imoWk 1 - Elimination Finals - (EF1) 3 v 6 and (EF2) 4 v 5.

I work with a bloke that plays at Old Ivanhoe and he mentioned how frustrating it wasPrem C in the VAFA had 11 teams in 2022. It was a disaster. Especially when 2 teams were gone from Round 6. Makes for a long arduous season.
