With Ash Close doing his knee and calling it a day after being a dominant full forward for many years, that would be one priorityWhat’s priorities recruiting wise for Ivanhoe??

Could not be certain without doing a deep dive but looking at our 'best' team this year v regular 2023 senior team - around only 8 players in this years ones played regular seniors last year. We had 10+ new players to the club AND several of our thirds guys step up, so a very different squad.Chump - How many starting 18 players played last year when you were in the Ammos that regularly played senior footy this year?
How many returned from your premiership team that had left for cash post the flag?
"IF we can" does not come into to it ,This must be a priority for the senior club to build strong ties with the junior club and foster a whole club attitude so the talent in the juniors wants to play for the senior club . This is how you sustain long term success and have a heap of 1 pointers allowing for some high point recruiting to fill caps in the squad . You should have a look at how some of the song premier clubs in the EDFL do this. clubs like Stratmore ,Kelior and Abberfeildy and div one clubs like marby and hillside all have strong juniors and solid pathways to the seniorsCould not be certain without doing a deep dive but looking at our 'best' team this year v regular 2023 senior team - around only 8 players in this years ones played regular seniors last year. - We only had one player leave for cash after GF in 2022. He is no longer playing football in 2024.
- Another told it was preferred he play Div 1 by his VFL club.
- Selwood returned this year after permit 'challenges' in VAFA in 2023.
- All others remained retired from 2022 GF team who did not play in 2023.
We did however have a big inclusion of ex-IJFC players this year and will look to continue to grow that over time IF we can.
I believe it's on the radar LFF"IF we can" does not come into to it ,This must be a priority for the senior club to build strong ties with the junior club and foster a whole club attitude so the talent in the juniors wants to play for the senior club . Of course it would be a priority but it's not that easy for all clubs. Ivanhoe is in a tricky position as they have a lot of juniors who go to private schools in ivanhoe/kew, then transition to Old boys clubs after year 12 to play with their school mates. NFNL move the smartest thing IFC have done to try and wrestle some juniors back for the future."IF we can" does not come into to it ,This must be a priority for the senior club to build strong ties with the junior club and foster a whole club attitude so the talent in the juniors wants to play for the senior club . Well said Chump. It's been a positive move for you guys and a positive move for our competition.spot on Crusty.
Add to that we had been in basically Div 4 to Div 6 for the past 25 years and so talent wanted to play higher level of VAFA football.
Then we had the NFNL sides making various moves to get IJFC juniors or top players that we could not compete with re offering $$$
We were stuck in the 'middle' so to speak and needed to do something to survive let alone be successful.
From all accounts, apart from the obvious disappointment of narrowly missing finals in Mens teams, the club very happy with the move in year 1 and is confident it can build a future in the NFNL. Lots to do, but more opportunities I would suggest.
Yeah exactly, if it was easy everyone with juniors would be successful!Of course it would be a priority but it's not that easy for all clubs. You guys would have to be rapt with your first season, to miss out only the final day by % is tough but it will make your lot even hungrier next year. A great year to build off, I'm sure you will be after some quality to strengthen the side for a finals push next year.
Hopefully Otten & Scooter hang around too, always good having some high profile names running around.
identify the best opposition or rep squad players at 14/15yo get em in and then by senior age there 1 points. You should have a look at how some of the song premier clubs in the EDFL do this. clubs like Stratmore ,Kelior and Abberfeildy and div one clubs like marby and hillside all have strong juniors and solid pathways to the seniors
The junior poaching is happening big time. Long are the days you play with your local club through juniors.identify the best opposition or rep squad players at 14/15yo get em in and then by senior age there 1 points.
heard a story from a work mate whos team in the northern 15s last year lost there best and only decent player to yarrambat mid season on the back of a few nice words over a free feed and a spot in the boomer academy
thats how you strengthen by weaking the opposition arund you.
best way to have your points sorted for when they become of thta age atractive to senior footballThe junior poaching is happening big time. Long are the days you play with your local club through juniors.
whos poaching Junior players??The junior poaching is happening big time. Long are the days you play with your local club through juniors.
Yarrambat to put it simply.whos poaching Junior players??
Are you talking about the 15’s boy from last year or are you suggesting others?Yarrambat to put it simply.
It's happened in both U14's and U15's and I'm sure it's happening throughout other age groups too. I'm sure they're not the only club to do it though but as mentioned previously by another poster, Boomer's academy is definitely helping them bring some talented kids in.Are you talking about the 15’s boy from last year or are you suggesting others?
A bit odd for a Junior only club to be poaching kids isn’t it?
I thought their players can go to a few clubs as 1 pt players??
St Mary’s in YJFL.whos poaching Junior players??
No current season stats available
Yes, well said. It's hard for kids & parents to knock back.Yep exactly, renowned for recruiting talent yarrambat. Hear rumours about free boomfit, fuel cards, regos paid for, etc. They obviously deny that but even if not true, look at last years Rep squads and best and fairest results in the 13s and 14s and you can see the talent they recruited this year. But again, would you rather play with a team that has multiple guns and guaranteed to make finals and be coached by people of the ilk of Boomer, shane Harvey, Blair Harvey, shawry, Tilly and Co. or stay at your local club, coached by someone’s old man who played 50 twos games and get hammered by yarrambat.
Hursty are hoping they keep recruiting rep players and guns as they will have some good juniors in a few years coming through.
What will be the outcome when their kids are out of juniors at yarrambat ? Will they still support the club in same way they do now ? Was amazed to see that they have recovery sessions for any juniors during their finals there with proper recovery items . Bit over the top they are kids not afl players .Yep exactly, renowned for recruiting talent yarrambat. Yes I agree it definitely will be interesting. It's happened in both U14's and U15's and I'm sure it's happening throughout other age groups too. I guess they just want to be a junior powerhouse?
Now they have a 1pt alignment with Hurstbridge... it will be interesting to see in future years how many players go onto play at Hurstbridge from Yarrambat juniors.
