He was good for 3 qtrs and sublime in the last. So versatile and skilful, leave him untagged at your peril (or perhaps it won't work anyway). He is the next iteration of the Dustin Martin question - what do you do? What can you do?

I think teams have started working out that you can tag him relatively effectively at times when he plays across half back. It's when he gets switched forward and then works into the midfield that he seems very difficult to match up on and loses his opponent in traffic.

Will be interesting to see what teams start to try to do to slow him down. Getting physical with him seem to work for Brisbane when he was playing HB, got off the chain in the second half up forward though.

Dusty was physically untaggable, Daicos wouldn't be but seems to get protected from the tag via his role and ability to go to any line to good effect. Different challenge to Dusty but intriguing none the less.

To be clear I wasnt suggesting they were the same player, only that there seems to be a player every 5 or so years that just rises above the pack. Dusty, Buddy etc. The question remains the same - whaddaya do?

His last quarter was outstanding, not worthy of winning the medal though, Moore was better . His impact only came in the last quarter
If the medal was being given based on its stated criteria then McReery would have it locked up.

Well I think this is the first time I've ever seen a half back doing this sort of damage with the footy. Tagging a midfielder is a craft that's been refined over decades and decades, this is a bit new to footy so I guess coaches are still trying to figure it out.

Freakshow of a player but something irks me when I see him running around with nobody giving two hoots even though he's 10x better than half of them.

As others have said, its the fact he can go to other positions and still wreak havoc. He absolutely turned the game in that 4th when he went forward
