Does anyone else think this guy might be a gun..? or at least should be given a chance?

i'd like to hear anyone else's thoughts.

just in case we don't get ottens i think i'd rather go long term then prop us up with rejects like jolly and simmonds. to me this reeks of desperation.

We dumped him of our list last year , can't see him returning.

I had the same feeling there shinners (can anyone confirm?). Maybe he's one of those late maturers because he presented really well throughout the VFL finals series and seems to have gained in confidence.

Agree that Gill might be worth another punt. Kicking lets him down a bit though, and he can seem a tad ungainly at times. Not a bad back up option.

I wouldn't cxlass Troy Simm, onds as a mere reject. Has played some great footy when he has been first ruck. Can offer plenty around the ground, and I'd love him at Arden St, just not on a five year deal.

Short answer is no, long answer is no f'n way. Next

fair enough wrath and neo.. rate your work on here and was hoping for a response!!! where's tash?

but 5 year deal for symmonds??? just cos of some freaky half volleys against us seems a bit rich thats all.

are we gonna get ottens or are we dreaming? surely someone must know someone or something... i can't sleep.

I'm here..

Gill has been on our rookie list- for a year, Laidleys first year- he spent the whole year on the rookie list.. and was then delisted.. don't think he would be worth picking up.. we already have lots of young forwards.. we don't need another one sitting the magoos rotting - waiting for their chance to become a star.

Spent a few years on Melbournes rookie list too.

Good VFL player- doubt he'll get another chance to be anything more than that.. he's had a few, and they haven't worked out.. unless he is miraculously picked up Mahoney style.

Go Roos
5 years for Simmonds is good enticement.. and if we can entice him, then its better then ending up with nobody.. we need an experienced ruck to fill the whole between Ports/McKernan and Hale/McIntosh- Simmonds is perfect.. apart from that, he can kick a goal.. is decent around the ground.

Unfortunately you're gonna have to put up with the loss of sleep til this time next week.

Not sure if Onslaught can confirm but I hear that Gill did not exactly see eye to eye with Dunbar when Gill was on our list and Dunbar was Port coach.
Did he spend a fair bit of that year playing ones for Port?

He has spent more time in the twos this year than previous ones I think. His unorthadox kicking style would come into question. One of the best marks going around (winnnig mark of the year in the VFL about 3 years ago) although he needed to hold more marks this season. I don't think he is eligible to go back on a rookie list (dont they limit it to two clubs and/or or two years?).

Rookie chances in my opinion are Robert Alexander, massive kick and a good midfielder, and Ben Schwarze who performed well accross HB this season. Also Gibson and Rudd would be good chances as well.

Otten's certainly is a possibility, I think it is a very strong possibility of happening. As for Simmond's 5 year deal, a recent article in the age i think it way said it was 4 years, still long, but definately not as bad as 5 years.

Gill's at his best in the VFL as a ruckman and he's obviously not tall enough for that in the AFL. Doesn't hold enough contested marks to make it as a forward in the AFL, and not a defender for mine. A big no thanks to Nick Gill.

Unlike last year, there were no potential AFL stand outs for Port. They've either been through the system and failed (Schwarz, Obst) or just goers such as Rudd.

Gibson is a posibility, and I wouldn't mind taking a punt on Tim Ryan in the rookie draft with a late selection.
