Fact is once the decision was made to axe GT there was always going to be some degree of fall-out. There simply is no 'right' way to handle something like this. All the club can do is be as honest and as fair as possible.

Letting the players know via SMS is the fastest way to do it, the other options are:

1. The are told in advance (unfair to GT and would leak)
2. They are called in for a meeting at the same time (difficult to manage and would have started the rumour mill)

Pretty much handled as well as it could be, Nick and co will get over it, no one like to see a person they respect get bad news.

Compare it to the Carlton debacle.

Imagine Nick & Richo in the same forward line. Kleenex would have to be your jumper sponsor in a new record deal.

And when we play Geelong we'll have a plethora of handbags with which to put the tissues into ;)

Or Schwabby's axing at Hawthorn when it was the assembled media who broke the news to the players as they arrived for training.

I have no problems at all with the way St Kilda has handled this.

It's quite possibly been the most "bloodless" beheading ever.

Thomas has maintained his dignity to the very end.

geez 67 wins 59 losses in his tenure...they are hardly earth shattering numbers.....today you are judged on wins and losses...everything else is just talk.....you deliver or you get the ass...he didnt deliver what the supporters would deem a sucsess.....A flag

yeah its tough but I can see where the board is coming from, yes they have had injuires every club has had them. You cant say the reason the saints didnt win a prelim last year was due to injuires. Likewise you cant say it was Grants fault either but the buck has to stop at someone (sorry for the lame cliche') but its true in this instance.

he didnt deliver what would be expected with that list and it seems to me that he was actually getting further away from that point of sucsess than closer to it this season.

Didn't C. Grant chuck a hissy fit with Terry Wallace when he left the Doggies? You have a short memory ...

Didn't Wallace dump the Doggies a week before the season ended ;) All of Footscray were ****ed at Wallet.

Different scenario chief.
