The fixture was predicated on Adel, BL, Coll, Frem, Melb & NM being the clear top 6 across the past 2 seasons. Rather than being so strong, it's the fact that one of those teams has dropped off which is what's going to potentially cause some issues.

Not a massive issue, though, if the impact is just the Bulldogs sneaking into 4th and we finish 5th, rather than us in 4th and them in 5th. In either case we're probably staring down a semi-final against them at Ikon Park.

At the end of the day, our undoing will be due to:-

Not putting teams away, which impacts our percentage.

Our inability to knock off the Demons or the Crows

The draw will , ultimately, play an almost insignificant role. Each year, our finishing position has directly mirrored our shortcomings.

If we go 7-3 and finish 6th or 7th, which is possible, that is a failing of the fixture. 7-3 with our draw would mean we deserve a good shot at making a PF, which is not what we'll get if we're condemned to 6th or 7th spot.

I don't see our early-season losses this time around totally in the same light as losses from previous years. Not yet, at least. There is reason to think we might actually play better in finals, which would be a reversal from every prior campaign.

Agree with that.

In past years the grounds staff have done the full ground de-thatching stuff around now before top dressing etc, leaving it looking like a barren wasteland. We usually have a poster or two venture down and post “WTF’s happened to the surface?” and the green thumbs have responded “it’s the same every year. It’ll be like a bowling green again by the time preseason begins”, and they’re usually right.

Just guessing but I presume this is the case again right now.

So the groundstaff just went full Kevin Mitchell Jr, telling the girls to gagf?

I don't believe that for a second, but if I did, I'd be calling for sackings.

From memory it’s what’s done every year the moment the blokes finish. Having two W seasons within the one year may have stuffed them in this case, if that indeed is the issue with the surface.

It does require turf management so the fact it’s done at the start of Spring is no surprise. All clubs would do it at some stage I suspect.

Does anyone know how we are to get members tickets for the game when l dont have a North Melbournes womens membership code yet to enter?

I don’t but if I were you I’d phone the club and speak with the membership department.

Are you guessing there could be no home games at Arden St this season then?

If that’s what’s caused the issues I guess it depends how long it takes to sow and re-grow post aerating and reseeding etc. The rain we’ve had would help speed things up.

Another debut, best of luck to Zoe. A good game to introduce another player to senior footy. Can’t help thinking that we are setting ourselves to challenge next year with this season being more for player development. Don’t mind the approach if it’s what we are doing, plus we could still do some damage in the finals with a bit of luck.

What position does she play

I’m enjoying watching Gilly get about the ground more, and also watching her (looks from the outside at least) be a leader in the group. Even apart from the money I can see what Hawthorn could offer her and needed from her that North just didn’t.

It goes without saying, in order to give ourselves a decent chance at ultimate glory, we need to flog both Sydney and Port and beat one of Brisbane or the Pies - while being 100% competitive in our loss. If we can continue our improvement towards four quarter efforts, we’ll be up to our necks in it this year. In previous seasons, we tended to start fast and lose momentum as the pointy end approached. I’m noticing a slight shift this time around. Hopefully, it’s not just wishful thinking on my part.
