It is a bit sad that Launceston is getting squeezed out of the AFL market in all this Tasmania expansion / Hobart stadium planning.

There was a suggestion that North could play a border rivalry game or two each year against Sydney and/or GWS. I think it has merit.
Actually, the Tas govt is still planning to upgrade Launceston to 27.5K. They might even get to host finals.

Albury would be great. Only a 3.5 hour drive the diehards can get there and back same day.

Wangaratta is better I’m 35 minutes . They should combine both Wangaratta magpies and Wangaratta rovers grounds make it into 25000 stadium. Train station just 300 meters from these grounds. My thoughts anyway .

We just elected a Labor government for a further 4 years who have invested trillions in regional football grounds like Ballarat and the endless pit that is Kardinia Park.

This is the late Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo. Let’s get it redeveloped and let’s get a couple of games there. Job done.

Absolutely agree!
I could go on at length about how under used QEO is and the recent history about wtf happened in the region, a post that would surpass anything Tas could ever do, but simply put, QEO should be a secondary source.

That’s the Spirit – Kangaroos boosted by key re-signing

North Melbourne has been boosted by a key off-season re-signing, with Spirit of Tasmania committing to a partnership extension with the club.

A platinum partner since 2012, the newly inked three-year deal supporting the AFL men’s program
will take Spirit of Tasmania’s partnership with the club into its 14th year.

North Melbourne is set to play four AFL home games per season in Hobart across 2023, 2024, 2025.

“The club’s partnership with Spirit of Tasmania is one we are immensely proud of,” North Melbourne Acting Chief Executive Officer Chris Simmonds said.

“We have been partners since 2012 and we have seen them grow from their original Victorian terminal to this amazing new home in Geelong.

“The opening of Spirit of Tasmania’s new Geelong terminal will provide an exciting new experience for our members and fans to travel to Tassie for games in 2023 and beyond.

“Tassie is our home away from home, our Tasmanian supporters have been unwavering in their support and what better way for our Victorian-based supporters to travel across Bass Strait than on the Spirit of Tasmania.”

Spirit of Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Bernard Dwyer said the company was very pleased to further extend its long-term relationship with the North Melbourne Football Club.

“While supporting AFL games in Tasmania is important and positively impacts the Tasmanian community and economy in a number of ways, for us the significant brand recognition the partnership has delivered Spirit of Tasmania in key interstate markets, particularly Victoria, was a key factor in our decision to continue,” he said.

“In addition to specifically supporting AFL football being played in Hobart at Blundstone Arena, we have partnered with the club to help foster the implementation of community in both Tasmania and Victoria. We are very pleased that this important work will also continue.”

Spirit of Tasmania will feature on the back of the men’s guernsey, media back drop, coaches box and changeroom signage, coaches apparel as well as signage at Blundstone Arena and Marvel Stadium.

Spirit of Tasmania has also been a platinum partner of the North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos since the club’s inception in the AFLW. Earlier this year, the club announced the continuation of Spirit of Tasmania’s partnership with the Kangaroos’ AFLW side for Season 7.

North Melbourne has signed a new 3 year deal with TT line to play games in Hobart.
Club likes this no doubt.

I hope we start with an exit plan now though, sick of it. I'll also be sticking to my boycott of Hobart games for now.

It will be interesting to see what the crowds are like over those three years because not one game last season pulled 10000, so I struggle to see Tasmania getting a lot out of this deal.

Hopefully not too many people boycott the games because Hobart really needs to improve on it's crowds because not one game got 10000 last season.

Really disappointing.

Crowds will drop significantly in Tassie over the next three years, as the new club will be announced.

I can see this contract being torn up after 2023.

We should be lobbying to play 8 games at Marvel, and the other three at Ikon or regional venues like Bendigo or Albury.

Albury is absolutely ready for games.

Obviously, the end game is getting their own team which is independent of the crowds that NMFC draws. At some point, Tasmania will be looking to convert the rusted on North Melbourne Hobart members into Tasmania members.

Not Princes Park thanks. It's a shit hole. Unsuited for AFLW much less AFL. They'd need to spend tens of millions just to bring it up to code.

Surely the crowds couldn't drop lower than they already have in recent seasons in Hobart.

:sick::sick::sick::sick:

Not that I really care about the attendance numbers for those games but the mentioning of ‘unwavering in their support’ is laughable.

3 more years of forced propaganda from the players all saying the same thing ie We love coming down to Hobart, we love engaging with our supporters and members down there.

and Melbourne fans lose a 3rd of the fixture. Enjoy the replacement games*
