Expansion No GC team till 2016?

They were some top ratings from Brisbane the other night for the AFL, if I was running the AFL, I'd put a GC team in next year. :)

What's that got to do with the GC? The game was live 1 hour earlier on the GC on prime, so I doubt any GC people were watching 7's delayed telecast.
Probably cost 7 tens of thousands of viewers, along with the game being live on Fox as well.

do many people actually want an AFL team on the gold coast? everyone i talk to doesnt care about AFL. it seems the only person helping this bid along is ron clarke, who 65% of gold coasters just voted against. Gold Coast is a pretty strong league town now, as shown by the last two crowds at skilled park.

The 35% vote for Ron Clarke topped the poll - everyone else got under 30%. Besides, he also has the backing of the council (as they would) it's not just him alone. And, in another thread here , it was just reported the Gold Coast crowd today (or last night?) was under 20,000.

I've no doubt that with an NRL club already now based their, rugby league is clearly ahead, that's only logical. But that doesn't mean the pie isn't big enough for the AFL to have a share of it too, and its support can only increase a large amount when it gets its own Gold Coast ADL club as well.

yeh he got 35% but that still means 65% of gold coaster did not want him to be mayor. pretty bad imo. and yeh the crowd at skilled last night was 19,000 which is pretty good considering kick off wasnt till 8:30 and it was againt the sharks, who arent really a superpower of the NRL

See, right here is the problem with these threads, people take whatever stats they think will work and make excuses when they don't back up there arguments, and it happens on both sides so I am not specifically singling out RL here. But the fact is that Ron Clarke won, and the crowd was what the crowd was, what it portends remains to be seen.

no im just using the right stats, u cant say a majority of gold coasters wanted ron clarke to be mayor if he only got 35% of the vote and 19,000 is a good crowd for the titans in any their second year. im sure u guys wish to believe everyone wants an AFL team but its so far from the truth.

Of course not everyone wants an AFL side on the Gold Coast but the stats you are using are irrelevant to the argument, the Mayoral election wasn't a referendum on the AFL side (Ron Clarke still won anyway), and just because the Titans are getting half decent crowds doesn't mean the AFL side will fail, despite how much you would like it to be so.

Great, just what was needed, another braindead, illiterate moron.

As this thread is fundamentally about (getting it back on topic) where the new Gold Coast team will play, here's the latest news (which in a nutshell is that no stadium site has been finalised, although the Gabba is still the favourite site, and that is

... Demetriou said the AFL would definitely still play three games at the Gold Coast next year and possibly a fourth game. He added that additional games might to be played in western Sydney in the next couple of years at ANZ Stadium.

McLachlan said the new stadium on the Gold Coast may not necessarily be at Carrara as the league was still exploring up to 10 other options, with several of them being seriously considered."We have always been keen to explore as many options as we can. At the Gold Coast, there are only a certain amount of places you can look at," Demetriou said.

"Carrara has been the preferred site, but we will look at any alternative we can … There's probably three or four we are looking at seriously."
