No more long sleeves?

What happened to the days where players use to wear long sleeves? Do they still exist?

Hird use to wear it nearly every week in the season.

Daniel Wells wears long sleeves, but besides him i cant think of anyone else.
I think they make you easier to tackle compared to greased up sleeveless guys.

Global Warming - long sleeves are not needed for warmth nor to assist with chest marks on wet days.

I also think that clubs frown upon their use as it could be seen as restrictive.

Paul Medhurst wears them occaisionally

Heath Shaw more them 2-3 times last year when it was wet.

I think Brent MaCaffer and Brad Dick did too.

You see it more at VFL level then at AFL level now.

Will see some long sleeves when winter hits.

(No need for long sleeves under a roof, so StKilda and Essendon players won't be seen wearing them too often ever again).

I coached a little kid at Auskick up in Sydney who was nearly in tears when I was handing out jumpers at the start of the year and had to explain we had no long sleeved ones. I assumed it was because of fear of early morning chest marks on his arms, but his mum just smiled and said he was a big Adem Yze fan and wanted long sleeves so he could fold them up like him.

The little guy ended up wearing a long sleeved t-shirt in close to our colours under his team jumper with the sleeves folded up Yze-style all season long, and just like his hero was a great kick but didn't handball once all year.

- Matthew Whelan
- Adem Yze
- Cameron Bruce
All regularly wearing long sleeves, with Travis Johnstone and James McDonald donning them from time to time.
