Yes me. I have to add that, to be honest, I am somewhat envious of just how well they've got their football act together: game plan, team structures, personnel and above all, fitness. They truly are the benchmark by some margin.
Spot on, key defenders who can mark are so valuable. Most of their goals are set up by their defensive structure and marking ability. They slingshot from defence catch opposition out of position and have an open forward line.

They are coached so well and make Bevo and co look like amateurs. Maybe with the recruitment of O’Brien and Gardener going for marks Bevo is realising we need to intercept and launch quick attack from defence. Dees have good key defenders, probably 3 of them. We just have 1 good key defender and that is Alex Keath.

Leon Cameron not being able to restrain his best player from being an absolute campaigner and getting suspended all the time, might cost him his job.

With no disrespect to any poster in particular because I've seen it often in several threads recently, could we post with the correct grammar and not write: "should of", "would of" and "must of"? By all means, use the abbreviated forms if you like but remember that we are abbreviating "should have, would have and must have".
Thank you ladies, gentlemen and any other chosen genders.

Robbie Gray is incredible when firing. At his best, not sure there's a more dangerous player around goals in the last 20 years

LOL My brother in Phoenix texted me to find out how much time was left at the 21 minute mark. He had put a bet on Carlton. I was watching something else on TV.

Carlton are frauds lmao. Don’t even know how Carlton fans could celebrate this win. Voss had no response in that second half, 2 goals to 9. They have been extremely lucky so far this year.
The players know it, very subdued song.

Carlton hype seems a bit over the top.

Just hold on v port and hawks. Would have lost to us if we kick straight.

When they’re on they look good but all seems a bit premature for me.

Anyone watching the Essendon Fremantle game? I just saw something before that is indicative of where the Dogs are going wrong with their tactic of giving 5m off the mark.

Jordan Clarke got penalised for a high tackle against Devon Smith probably about 70m from goal. Essendon were out and if Smith got passed Clarke it was open in the fwd 50. Clarke not only stopped Smith, nearly got a holding the ball, but Smith ducked/shrugged and the tackle went high, but importantly he stood at the point of the mark so Smith had to go back before he could kick it. In that time it gave the Freo defenders time to get back and congest their defensive 50, so Essendon couldn’t find any open players.

If that was the Dogs, the person who laid the tackle and gave up the free would immediately run back from the mark opening up the opportunity for the player to immediately move the ball into an open 50. The guy pulling back 5m is useless and gets the ball kicked over his head. Instead, if he stood the mark he forces the other player to go back before kicking, thus buying some time and also not allowing the player with the ball to run towards 50 and propel the ball into an open 50m area and pick out a leading forward.

This tactic of pulling back 5m works in the defensive and middle part of the ground but as you approach the 50m arc we have to man the mark. It’s giving teams the opportunity to move it more quickly into their fwd 50m area.

So we need to be more strategic with how we implement this tactic if we are going to do it.

Yeah if we’re pulling up 5m at that part of the ground well that’s crazy - I noticed Port did it today too actually but less aggressively.

Surely there’s enough tactical nous in the coaching box that it has to be a case by case decision - ie if the balls in the back half of the ground sure it works okay, also if you’re not yet at the mark when the marks taken then yes you can sit back but if for example even in the back half of the ground if they’ve taken a contested mark on you or just taken it out in front of you as you arrive at the mark then stand and hold them up forcing them to run back behind the mark to take their kick, if you just instantly start running backwards you’re in no position to cover ground anyway and you just allow them to move the ball on quickly without holding them up at all, causing more pressure on our players down the line.

Anywhere with 70-80m of goal well yes it should instantly be a non negotiable stand the mark as you don’t want to allow them any space whatsoever for a deeper entry.

I just can’t believe that we’re being instructed to do it as a non negotiable in all parts of the ground, I saw in the VFL at one stage we did it with a mark on the 50 he ran back inside the defensive 50 and just allowed them an extra few meters for a shot on goal 🤦‍♂️

I hate to say it but the Bummers are getting a raw deal from the umps. Mind you, I’m not saying they don’t deserve it 🙂. Another team that doesn’t know how to tackle or dispose of the ball. Wait for the complaints.
Lloyd karma - sometimes it takes a long time to exact revenge...
