Pre 1995, the RSL opposed Anzac Day football. Sheedy and someone at C’wood (McAllister ?) got together with Bruce Ruxton, a C’wood supporter, and persuaded him to support the proposed game with promise of a substantial donation to the RSL from the Gate. I assumed that this had become an annual donation.

It would have interfered with their pokies profits. Get off the footy & on on those machines!

(My colleague Steven Mayne says the RSL continued discouraging Anzac marches after CoVid ended for this reason, and he’s not known for conspiracy theories)

Not really. Weirdly enough he was played at the back, in a position that suited him. Baffling approach to take.

He’s likely not first choice KPD but decent depth, also was swung forward - took a good mark and kicked a goal.

Not that we need any of that at the dogs though. More mids and back half flankers please!

Boyd would be good at toughening them up and teaching them to fight for every possession, wish he was still with us. Murphy would have them meditating and hugging trees.

I suspect we wanted to keep him but he wanted out (quite reasonably). The mistake for me was not picking him more in 2018 and especially in 2019 - should have got games into him over Trengove when we were a middling team anyway.

Wasn’t there some questions over his professionalism, not keeping in good shape etc. perhaps that has changed with maturity. There is a lot to be said for drafting kids later.

I thought that was more when he came back from the COVID lock-downs not as fit as he should have been. We didn’t hear as much of this pre-2020.
