I don't get how King is so inaccurate, his kicking action is pretty decent but he can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Mock him all you like but Sheedy has been a footy innovator, a leader and a great coach ... whether we like it or not.

Essendon FC has been the beneficiary of a lot of that, but some of it has benefited the sport as a whole.

I don't particularly like him (for other reasons) but he has had a big influence on the emergence of the game from its suburban roots to a national comp that now interests even the casual observers, not just the tribal faithful.

Look, you're not wrong, but over his career at both Essendon and the Western sh1t stains, he has made derogatory remarks about our club. (Possibly what you're inferring as well?)

He also over-promoted essendon to the detriment of other clubs, and at times the competition as a whole.

Also in recent years, his ramblings have been often incoherent.

I suspect it's largely because he lost perspective, and drank his own bathwater by the bucket-load.

His verbal attack on Mitchell White (amongst others) would these days incur a heftier penalty from HO, but back then he was viewed as 'good for the game'.

Master coach - yes. But he also tainted his own legacy by some of his actions.

I recognise his influence on the game, but I also reserve the right to park any respect for the person.

Agree. The winning team should make a big donation to the RSL or Legacy instead, or do something to benefit the military.

Pre 1995, the RSL opposed Anzac Day football. Sheedy and someone at C’wood (McAllister ?) got together with Bruce Ruxton, a C’wood supporter, and persuaded him to support the proposed game with promise of a substantial donation to the RSL from the Gate. I assumed that this had become an annual donation.

I tipped St Kilda by 17.

GWS were unable to get any fluency. Nearly all of their i50s were long bombs or wishful chips to about 25m out. St Kilda tackled and harassed all night. They were disciplined and defended well right across the ground.

GWS are going nowhere this year and will be looking for a new coach in a few months. Better start scouting the options now.
St Kilda will make the finals - might even make second week but will be no match for the likes of Melbourne.
