It's happened again. Almost every year, someone from the Pear franchise predicts a premiership in the coming season. This year, it's Footsteps Rozee.
January premiers. Whoopydoo.

They've got to find a role that doesn't include first contested possession if they want to be a genuine contender in the final fortnight.

Well individuals on here thought our club was dumb not going for a higher draft pick in 2022 instead of winning meaningless games towards the end of the season.

Well if you thought that was bad this is a whole another level.

I’ve been following the NE Patriots in the NFL since 2000 and there have been 20 glorious years however the past few seasons have sucked big time once Brady left. Well this year they sucked yet again but were in the No 1 pick spot heading into the last game and were playing the Buffalo Bills at home who had a 13-3 record and had locked in the second seed heading into the playoffs. So the result meant nothing to the Bills so what happens, the Patriots pull off a win costing them the no 1 pick and sliding to the 4th pick. But the 🍒 on top of it is seeing the players and coaches carrying on as if they won the Super Bowl. I mean, seriously.

Losing is for losers

You gain absolutely nothing by winning the last game of the year and costing yourself the No. 1 pick. Absolutely nothing, the fans don’t care and reckon most would want the No. 1 pick.

Well it didn’t help the head coach did it in the end. He has been sacked a few hours later.
Losing is never good, under any circumstance.

So if we had the no 1 pick and dropped to 4 you would be happy. I don’t think so. You win a spoon, who the **** cares, who even remembers?

Seriously, if you have been a bottom 2 side all year and gave up a No 1 pick you need your head examined.

You know how you get up the ladder - you get the best talent available (either draft or trade).

The difference between the number 1 pick, and the number 4 is often negligible. FOr the most part the number 1 pick doesnt end up being the best player in the draft.

So yeah, losing is for losers.

It’s the right thinking, but you try telling players that, it goes against everything they have bred into them

It may be negligible but no 1 guarantees you get the best option available.

If you want to win a worthless game in the last round to cost you best positioning, good on you.

North Melbourne with Harley Reid isnt going to be better???

Theyll be better, but do you REALLY think it matters that much ?? Theyve had that many high draft picks and they still suck.

They are the poster child for losing becoming a culture.
I agreed that the difference between 1 and 4 can be negligible as we saw when Judd at 3 became the better ( by a small margin) of Hodge and Ball

But with Reid North had options to move some of those duds on and get draft capital for KPs

I just think the decision by North to win or not lose as hard as WC cost them a quicker rise up the ladder

Yeah it's one thing for supporters or even admin to think "Yeah we'd be better off losing." But sportspeople are elite sportspeople because they have a desire to win. A lot of them play sport because they love to win and hate to lose.

If you went with supporter logic, why try in the last game when you're bottom? Why try at all if you're not going to win the flag? I guarantee we're not going to win the flag this year, so why bother trying to win 10-12 games? Why not just lose them all?

The irony of that North win over the Suns in Tassie to avoid Wooden Spoon/Pick 1, is that if North had played like North had done for the entire 2023, they would have comfortable lost that game to the Suns. Suns rested a lot of players for that final round game too, which really was a deciding factor as well.

In 2024, it was already clearly looking like a mistake. It will be interesting to look back on this in 10+ years from now.

Interestingly in 2024, the "meaningless" Saints Final round win over the Blues did cost them crucial positions in the draft, which was further amplified by the fact it was considered to be a Superdraft as well. Thats not even taking into consideration the Saints getting a compensation pick straight after their 2024 1st.

Individually and as a group they want to win and nobody is suggesting they shouldn’t. What you don’t do is play injured seniors to the bitter end hoping they might help eke out an extra win. You should turn attention to following year which jeans getting injuries seen to and looking at development opportunities.

That I can agree with for sure. However I'm sure that if you played all kids in Round 24 and they gelled like crazy and won there'd still be some who'd grumble that we dropped down the draft order.
