On reflection, I think time will look on Gil's time as AFL CEO rather kindly:
- The way he handled Phil Walsh's passing from an AFL perspective was outstanding
- AFLW being the success it is
- Surviving the last two years
Sure, there's been some missteps along the way (AFLX), but overall I think he's been a success as CEO

I don't think anyone is suggesting that she is, are they? Why does anyone think that Daisy is better than Phillips? They aren't even in the same conversation. It would be like saying Schoenberg is better than Bont
So.. has Daisy ever won a GF BOG?.. has daisy even won an AFLW flag?I don't think anyone is suggesting that she is, are they?
The AFLW has 2 medals in need of a name - the B&F (Brownlow equivalent), and the GF BoG (Norm Smith equivalent). It's a given that one of these will be named after Phillips, whose record in the AFLW is unparalleled.
The AFLW is on a hiding to nothing here. The can't name both medals after Phillips, and naming the other medal after anyone other than Phillips would effectively be raising an unworthy player to the same pedestal. Phillips' record is head and shoulders above any other AFLW player, so whoever they choose for the other medal is going to suffer in comparison. Daisy appears to be the favoured candidate for the other medal, but it wouldn't matter who it was - the AFLW's short history just doesn't have another worthy candidate. Daisy is no worse than any other candidate, and probably better than most, it's just that she's not on Phillips' level.
Who do you think they SHOULD name the other medal after? They have 2 medals to name, and only one of them can be named after Phillips. Who would you name the other medal after? Who is the 2nd most worthy player in the AFLW's short history (given that Phillips is clearly #1)?So.. has Daisy ever won a GF BOG?.. has daisy even won an AFLW flag?
If no… then how the fu** is she even worthy of having the medal named after her?..
Her high standing in the game has been manufactured by the Victorian media.
It just seems that the AFLW/vic media want to name these two medals after two players and they desperately want to ensure at least one of these medals is named after a Victorian/victorian based player.. they deaperately need to promote a Victorian player for the optics of it all.. a big “see, look at us, we produce the top players too!” cry for some attention.
Its just another example of how pathetic Victorians are when it comes to shamelessly trying to promote their state. Mostly because deep down they know the place is a fu**n shithole so they have to desperately try and promote the place as some sort of sporting mecca.
Why the rush? They could easily wait a few years until there are two worthy people.Who do you think they SHOULD name the other medal after? IMO the B&F has the higher status, and that should be the one for Erin. And not until after she retires. The AFLW has 2 medals in need of a name - the B&F (Brownlow equivalent), and the GF BoG (Norm Smith equivalent). I don't watch enough AFLW to know - but that's the impression I get. Is Daisy really the second-best - consistently, over her career - AFLW player after Erin? Or just the one with the biggest media profile?o.. has Daisy ever won a GF BOG?.. has daisy even won an AFLW flag?

The competition is 6 years old, and it looks amateurish not to have proper names for their most important medals. Why the rush? They could easily wait a few years until there are two worthy people.
Of course what they will do is name it after some random Victorian administrator
True, but if you're in a position to name the medals, you'd surely be eyeing off Erin, and then you should wait until after she has retired. The competition is 6 years old, and it looks amateurish not to have proper names for their most important medals.
Maybe they could name it the Matthew Clarke medal, given that he has coached the Adelaide team to 2 of their 3 premierships? The Norm Smith medal is named after a coach...IMO the B&F has the higher status, and that should be the one for Erin. And not until after she retires.
- Although any decision about naming such an award after a player (a league-wide award, anyway, not a club award) is going to be difficult.
Perhaps one of them could be the Gillon Medal. He oversaw the creation of the AFLW, after all

I don't mind that idea... but if that's what they want to do, then they should openly state as much.True, but if you're in a position to name the medals, you'd surely be eyeing off Erin, and then you should wait until after she has retired.
So you'd rather name an award for the next 100 years after someone not entirely deserving, just because it looks a bit amateurish in the first few years? The competition is 6 years old, and it looks amateurish not to have proper names for their most important medals.
Purely Victorian media profile.IMO the B&F has the higher status, and that should be the one for Erin. And not until after she retires.

Doesn't that mean we'd have to sack him first?Maybe they could name it the Matthew Clarke medal, given that he has coached the Adelaide team to 2 of their 3 premierships? The Norm Smith medal is named after a coach...
I don't think that sort of thing needs to be flagged in advance "we're going to name the medal after Erin, but only after she retires".I don't mind that idea... but if that's what they want to do, then they should openly state as much.
They can have a pioneer for the b&f and Erin for the GF medalI don't think anyone is suggesting that she is, are they?

I like the idea of naming the medals after Erin & Goddard. I'd go Erin for the B&F.They can have a pioneer for the b&f and Erin for the GF medal
That's a fair comment.Daisy's off field influence on AFLW and being a major factor in it getting off the ground would be why any medal is named after her, and deservedly so IMO.
Nothing to do with Victoria whatsoever.
