Can you imagine if our club put something out like this?

My god thats an embarrassing level of utter delusion.

What a complete moron Rucci is..

Whilst I'm not a fan, I guess we need to acknowledge Gillon's successes.

Firstly, the introduction of AFLW. I'm not sure he really deserves full credit, and at times it felt like the AFL tried to make it less successful, but it has clearly been a great addition.

Secondly, the ability to keep the league going through the pandemic years also deserves credit. It must have been incredibly difficult at times.

"His departure will leave a massive hole for the game, particularly as it emerges out of two COVID-impacted seasons." - Damien Barrett

Will it though?

Gillon might have made some good moves off the field but the actual product, the quality of the game itself, has been reduced through his tinkering and he's failed to address any of the major concerns fans have

Peggy O'Neal is stepping down as President of Richmond too. If Gale gets the top AFL job then you've got to wonder what Neil Balme's plans are. Either take the reins of one of those jobs, and the club in general, or move on and let the club do a full leadership reset.

Footy classified just layed the boot into Adelaide another 5 times.

Did not mention the AFLW win other than Rowe's comments about Daisy not being fit to carry Philips bags and having a go at him

McLure got his award back for his camp story

Tex deserves to be boo'd for the rest of his career Craig Kelly got into an altercation at the game with an Essendon fan and the integrity unit needed to investigate because he stood up for Tex

Apparently Ben Keays and McHenry appealing for a deliberate out of bounds with their arms out is umpire dissent and it should be 50m

Oh and the AFLW was brought up again but only to say the crowd was disgraceful for booing the umpires.

Then don't watch it. I've got a personal blacklist that includes Footy Classified, SEN, Murdoch rags and plenty more!

That Rucci article is one of the most delusional things I've read. Utter cringe.

Having said that, long may he continue! I hope he keeps defending that club, and Hinkley. The longer he does, the longer their fall will continue for.

Yeah, I'm all in favour of them circling the wagons (or at least a few dodgy MG's) around Ken. I do hope they go 0-5 just so we can all bust out that photo of him making a knob of himself after that showdown win, but after that I'd like to see them recover enough to scrape into the 8 then get knocked out first or second week.

On reflection, I think time will look on Gil's time as AFL CEO rather kindly:

  • The way he handled Phil Walsh's passing from an AFL perspective was outstanding
  • AFLW being the success it is
  • Surviving the last two years

Sure, there's been some missteps along the way (AFLX), but overall I think he's been a success as CEO

I can’t help but think AFL CEO is a bit of a thankless, fall guy type of job.

(By thankless, I mean aside from the $1.7M per year…)

It never used to be. Blokes like Ross Oakley and Andrew Demetriou actually had authority, or at least pretended to.

Gillon has looked like a sleep-deprived hostage the entire time he’s been CEO. He just comes out and says whatever the AFL Commission tells him to say, even if he doesn’t believe it.

That has to eat away at a man after a period.

From what i've heard of Gale (through a former teamate), he's a top bloke and not a part of the knob brigade.

Hoping he gets the role.
A genuine Football person with Comercial management nous.

I hope he gets it. Did a great job at Richmind getting the right people in the jobs.

I would go so far as say the League needs Gale as CEO.

A bit like being Mods without the perks.

But the current Mods are doing a good job to pick up the pieces after Vader trashed the joint. His cruise parties were legendary though, no matter the risk like being one of the first in Australia to catch covid and spreading it when he got back, he was up for it.

tiny sample size but Brendon Gale came across two Crows supporters outside the 'G pregame of 2017 GF holding a sign that said 'Drove From Adelaide - Need 1 ticket' (one of them had a ticket, the other didn't -)

Gale asked them if they only needed one ticket, which they did, and he handed them one

Feel like that was an act of a top bloke

Agreed.

Did anyone else get the impression that it's not all his idea?
There was a tangential reference to "more complicated than it seems" in there.
