Percentage is a decent guide here - 83.0 this year compared to 82.0 last year. So about the same, team hasn't really moved much at all which aligns with our age profile being basically the same, still heavily reliant on a couple of mature midfielders and one dominant key forward surrounded by lots of sub-50 game kids. We have rejuvenated the list some more since last year though with a couple of big injuries plus Brown and Crouch moving out, so matching last year's results is probably a par result.

With another years development, adding Dawson, and virtually no injuries to speak of, matching last year is a catastrophe

Utter failure that literally no one expected or foresaw

Liam Jones heading back to the AFL next year. How he gets there will be interesting, I'm sure the AFL will make an exception for him - did he officially retire last year?

Absolutely.

We needed to grow and improve on the back of our youth and talent.

Epic failure.

Laird, Tex and Dawson held us together ... just about as bad a result and we could have imagined.

You lost me at “wins and losses aren’t worth much.”

It’s been a long day though man, it could be me
Lol - just showing how ANYTHING can be a "nothing" stat in isolation.

To say that percentage is a bad stat and that wins / losses are a good stat deserved some sarcastic attention :)

Funnily enough, the OP then went on to say that the best percentage didn't indicate premiership winners - ignoring that finishing on top of the ladder in the regular season doesn't determine premiership winners either ... even though the ladder is determined on wins and losses !!!

Especially when there are two deadset basketcase teams with two wins each and a % in the low 50's.

Everyone else has gone past us.

I actually feel for their fans (not really, but you know what I mean).

The gaslighting inflicted on them is extreme — there is barely a coach in the game’s history who has survived more than ten years without a flag (Ken hasn’t even had a GF appearance), yet the entire football establishment is acting like it’s some unreasonable expectation to move him on.

(Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people, mind you..)

PS- Is that sign actually real?

Yes its real. Ken isnt happy, called it Poor and Weak.

Just interviewing Dixon on 5AA, he stuffed up "its in the majority' meant the minority, couldnt say it and said a couple. Then called the supporters uneducated and cowardly.

Carlton have got so much right.

They had a no.1 pick and they picked the big key defender to set up their backline and they nailed it and he's developed as you'd expect for a no.1 pick.

They had another and they got the prime position midfielder and they nailed that and he's developed as you would hope a no.1 pick would. And this is to play him alongside an earlier pick that they nailed so hard that they changed the way people talked about drafting midfielders, everyone wanted a big bodied mid after Cripps.

They drafted last years coleman medallist and the guy who is leading this year's coleman, the big marquee key forward that every club dreams about and they picked up two of the best with late first round picks.

All the prime positions seem covered key forwards, key backs, midfield.

And then they've managed to attract and bring in big names from other clubs in the primes of their careers - Saad, Williams, Cerra, Docherty (also McGovern). They played the system and managed to bring in Jack Martin for free.

And for all of that they have managed to get themselves to 7th on the ladder.

Have they messed everything else up that badly or is it still coming together?

Hilarious that Hardwick thinks he is being held to a higher standard than the rest of Australia because he's a coach.

He is like a child really.

He was saying in the context of him abusing players in the VFL last week and he’s right. You don’t hear about all the nuffs nuffs that scream worse so he is held to a higher standard.

I can definitely see Hinkley telling Port to get stuffed and taking the North or GWS job, Boak thinking **** this and following him, Gray retiring to get away from all the bullshit and no coach worth their salt going near them or their ungrateful boofhead supporters.

I don't buy into percentage.

Are we a better side because Sydney put the cue in the rack after qtr time rather than playing for percentage?

I think % is a reasonable start, but it’s not everything. As a simple adjusting factor, we played Port twice last year and they finished top 4 H&A. If we end up with the exact same % with every other factor identical and Port finish 10th, then that’s a lesser result. It’s a starting point, like any stat.

Cowardly? I’d imagine plenty of fans would be happy to state their views face to face if given the opportunity. They’re very much replicating us and the smelling of our own farts inside our 4 walls. They’re ****ed and for the first time ever, I’m glad. That attitude deserves it.
