Very predictable this would be raised again, seems to happen everytime Hinkley is under pressure.

A nice distraction that can re-unite the supporter base.
Similar to the idea of SA moving to eastern states time being raised every time our state government is under pressure.

Who was the last premiership team that had the best percentage in the AFL?
Hawthorn 2015

More often than not the minor premier has the highest percentage, but recent track record shows that only 2 Minor Premiers have gone on to win the Premiership in the past decade.

This is probably more a reflection on the inequality of the fixture (the minor premier should always be the best performed team, rather than the best influenced by who they happened to play), and our ridiculous finals system (where we try to cram a top 8 into four weeks meaning there is reduced advantage given to the top placed team).

Have long said that the traditional top four is the best system, and any expanded formats should work to that.
Week 1 (in place of the pre-finals bye, played in higher ranked state)
1st Qualifying Final (1QF) - 1st v 4th
2nd Qualifying Final (2QF) - 2nd v 3rd
1st Elimination Final (1EF) - 5th v 8th
2nd Elimination Final (2EF) - 6th v 7th

Week 2
1st Minor Final (1MF) - Loser 1QF v Winner 2EF (in Tasmania)
2nd Minor Final (2MF) - Loser 2QF v Winner 1EF (in Queensland)

Week 3
2nd Semi Final (2SF) - Winner 1QF v Winner 2QF (at Adelaide Oval)
1st Semi Final (1SF) - Winner 1MF v Winner 2MF (in New South Wales)

Week 4
Preliminary Final (PF) - Loser 2SF v Winner 1SF (at Perth Stadium)

Week 5
Grand Final (GF) - Winner 2SF v Winner PF (at MCG)

Port Adelaide will be denied the chance to wear its prison-bar jumper in Round 23 with the AFL making it clear the Power can only broker a long-term agreement with Collingwood’s approval.
The Power had been hopeful soft diplomacy could resolve the longstanding impasse after it was revealed last month an official request had been made for the home Round 23 clash with the Crows.

But the league has made clear it will not be able to approve any request for a game to be played in coming weeks, having previously told the Power it is prevented from the use of the historic jumper under AFL rules.

Lol and then, lol again

Perhaps if they ask the AFL if they can wear the original Wharf Pylon guernsey, they may get it across the line.

Personally think it is stupid in an era where clubs can wear any design (indegenous/heritage/clash/rainbow) jumper yet this one is denied because Collingwood say no?

Sure they would clash somewhat when playing Collingwood, but any other game why does it matter?

Yeah HaHa Port, but really just another example of this league being an extended VFL.

Wins and Losses are an important stat.

Points for and against can be a guide as to how you are tracking.

Melbourne 2021

Does anyone ever watch old games (e.g. From the 90s) and think that the game isn't even that much different?
The best full forwards kicking bags of 6+ goals pretty regularly was different. Way more 1v1 contests in general. I don't think the talent was better, if anything players were much less fit, but the game was easier to watch back then as there weren't as many players around the footy.

yesterday I watched a highlight reel from of Sturt v Port from 1975 Grand Final, it was very good football.
The things that stood out were the good skills and toughness they showed
Sturt won 17 goals v 10

Yeah, I'm with you. Surely merchandise sales help the clubs. What is the argument from the AFL and Collingwood?

If it's valid, fair enough.

I reckon peak AFL was 1994 to 2004.

Before massive use of structures/flooding/team defence which Craig/Roos/Worsfold introduced.
