Interesting to hear Craig McRae say on SEN tonight that they do welcome to country before every meeting they have.
Seems like that’s a bit overboard correcting their past indiscretions.
Isn't that standard practice?
We do welcome to the country before every meeting.

What are the odds that a Port Adelaide reserves side in the VFL (or AFL Reserves, or whatever) would be allowed to wear Da Barz? Zero, of course.

So Port removing themselves from the SANFL and moving the the VFL would mean killing off the Magpies name and the black and white and the prison bars, completely.

I wonder if someone will ask Kochie about this.
Already have killed off the Magpies. Same logo as the AFL team now.

Power Reserves in a different jumper.

Same as us in the SANFL.

Well, they're listed on the SANFL website as the "Magpies" and of course they wear the prison bars jumper.

As I said, I'd like to see Kochie's answer if he was challenged on that.

Would they really have two a day?

We have one or two a week.
Depends on what McRae means by "meetings". In any organisation the size of an AFL club, there would be several meetings every day - in different parts of the organisation. Large meetings? Small meetings? Monday morning team briefings? Marketing updates? Whatever.

- But IMO a Welcome To Country is largely lip service anyway. I think a lot of people would just "sit through it".

and you invite a Custodian in each time to do WTC?
Nah, it's usually just an acknowledgement of the indigenous people of the particular area you're in (ie. the Kaurna people).

It's been pretty common in meetings I've been to for the last 2-3 years, along with a "safety moment".

so you've got custodians of the land on staff?
No, it's common practice in a lot of corporate environments these as a way to commence meetings to say something like 'I'd like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the (whoever they might be) people, and pay my respects to their elders past, present and emerging'. This would be said by whoever is chairing a meeting or speaking or whatever.

I suspect that's what everyone is talking about.

that's not a welcome to country and I find it offensive that people don't know the difference. Recognising the traditional owners is not a welcome to country. People pat themselves on the back for this stuff and they don't have faintest clue. Embarrassing is an understatement.

Some education for you city slickers to add to your RAP. Educate yourselves as to what Welcome to Country actually is and who can conduct one.

Cool. Well, whatever you call it, it's done all over the place in corporate environments and often recommended by diversity committees and so on.
