Not sure about the order except Tredrea but their best Tredrea, Boak, Gray, Shaun Burgoyne, Josh Francou, Roger James, Chad Cornes imho
Agree with this.

Primus was also an absolute gun before his knees started to go on him.

Will be interesting the crowd size. AO seems to be losing its luster. We had 39k at the first showdown and last weekend we hat just under 29k.

If the Crows members knew that a Dawson special was on the menu, it would have been maximum capacity.

I think a lot thought, Port would cruise in.

Aren't crowd sizes down quite a bit accross the league anyway?

I wouldn't say AO is 'losing it's luster', it appears that Australia is really struggling for attendances in all sporting events. Throw in the fact that both teams are also struggling a lot at the moment.

Some are. There were 50k at the WC match in Perth against us. PA only had 27k against Richmond a few weeks back. I would have thought this a blockbuster match.

That was JK's final match, I had Eagles friends that all went to say "goodbye".

Sold out apparently which I thought was strange. How do you sell out a 100k+ stadium. …also can’t remember where I saw it was sold out. I don’t actually believe it.
Its only sold out if all the MCC members attend.

Would have thought it was just about their only 50k home match this year.
It was the highest crowd this year outside of the MCG.

With the exception of the last 2 years with covid
It's the lowest crowd since 1996.

But here it is by % from 2019 to 2022

Melbourne +26% (Bottom 4 to Top 4)
Brisbane +2% (Top 4 to Top 4)
St Kilda +1% (Missed finals to in the hunt with finals)
Gold Coast -1% (Wooden spoon to good)
Fremantle -1% (Missed finals to Finalists)
Carlton -2% (Bottom 4 to in the hunt with finals)
Sydney -6% (Bottom 4 to Finalists)
Western Bulldogs -8% (borderline finalists (in) to borderline finalists (currently out))
Hawthorn -12% (In the hunt with finals to miss)
Collingwood -21% (Top 4 to Top 4 aspirants)
Geelong -22% (Minor Premiers to Minor Premiers (Though, with a stand missing))
Port Adelaide -23% (Finals aspirants to Finals aspirants)
Essendon -26% (Finalists to missing finals)
Richmond -29% (Powerhouse to making up the numbers)
Greater Western Sydney -30% (Finalists to basketcase)
Adelaide -40% (Fighting for finals to missing finals)
North Melbourne -45% (FIghting for finals to basketbcase)
West Coast -46% (Finals to basketcase)

Basically, comparing the crowds and the teams, and with the unique circumstances of Geelong with them playing through their ground being redeveloped. Every team has an excuse for their crowds. Well, except Port Adelaide. They're just on the outside of finals now as they were then. Nothing's changed there.

The game against you guys was definitely an outlier. People went solely for JK.
The previous home game against St Kilda was under 30k.

I will LOL if this weeks Showdown crowd is above 45k. Or is this supposed “boycott” by the Port Power true believers starting from next season? One last hurrah 😁
I have tickets 46366 and 46367

It would be interesting to see if this is a uniquely Australian thing, or if major sporting codes across other continents are being hit this hard. Over here we had record attendances for the Premier League last year, so I think the 'it's COVID' issue is a bit of a cop out.

The AFL clearly isn't doing something correctly and engagement with fans for whatever reason is bad.

I think tv deals might have something to do with it

The good tv deals in Australia means people can just get kayo, or foxtel, or if you're non-victorian, nothing and rely on free to air tv and get every game conveniently.

In ENgland, you have to get sky and cool, you have ~30% of the games, but now you have to get BT Sports, oh cool, another 10% of games. So as a fan what do you do? The tv deals just aren't convenient. Which means people can't just throw all their eggs in 1 basket (in the afl's case, Kayo/foxtel) So do you get numerous sporting services or attend games?

Yeah true, I think they need to look at the TV deals thing if 'attendances' are a big cause for concern. In England on Saturdays all 3PM games are 'blackout' which means they are not broadcast and it's to protect attendances.

I had covid 😔 but my ticket didn't go unused.
Screw Covid.
I had to miss the St Kilda game :(

Hated this years fixture.

Missed St Kilda due to covid, Carlton due to travel, Collingwood and North Melbourne due to other commitments.
At least made up for it with away games for Essendon, North melbourne and Port Adelaide.

Was flying back to the UK the day after, couldn't believe that I actually was at the game - first after the final siren victory since 91 and against port....

It's a game I will remember till the day I die.

I'm happy that next years fixture will be back to normal for the most part. I want to book a trip to Melbourne but it's difficult when times and dates aren't decided on until late. I actually think this is a reason for low crowds.
